Recently, there have been a wave of Apple Fanboys flooding the forum with false information, deliberately trying to start fights, and more than likely creating multiple accounts to agree with themselves. ( Kind of wierd eh? ) Now I can see nothing happening to correct these issues, and *I* just received an "infraction" for calling someone a fanboy, in a response to a complete garbage post, once again, trying to start fights. It was cited under a "personal attack" Well, whatever, sorry and if I broke the rules so be it.

But, WHY is nothing VISIBLY being done to curb these people, or person, from posting complete inaccurate information, ON PURPOSE, and deliberately starting fights? We all know who they are. And I'm not saying ban all the Apple Fankids, not by a long shot. But lets keep them from starting posts like this huh?

http://androidforums.com/android-lounge/42935-htc-incredible-supersonic.html

Now common sense dictates this guy knows these are two different phones, and is just trying to start trouble. There are tons of threads/posts like this and it *Seems* nothing is being done about it. If it is... well can we have a visible result? It is frustrating to have to constantly counter misinformation, (and I usually wouldn't bother, but if we don't, how would a newcomer know the difference?) and after so many times countering the same EXACT ARGUMENT, people get frustrated, ( I know I do ) And things get out of hand. Truth is, if the person/people I called fanboys, or whatever, didn't post inaccurate garbage, ON PURPOSE, JUST TO START FIGHTS, then I wouldn't get that way. And I'm not the only one!

How do I know they are trying to start trouble?

Well many threads start off with

"Why Android Sucks"
or "iPhone is better blah blah"

You get the gist, and these people often have less than 10 posts, and then the "trolls" chime in and agree with the OP/Themselves.

This site is called AndroidForums, and if I wanted to read about iPhone in EVERY FREAKING THREAD, I would join an APPLE FORUM.

Sorry about the rant, but *I* Felt this needed to be said. Maybe I'm totally wrong here, but we'll see.

Comments?

I'm not considering leaving yet, I was just indicating it may happen. I've seen a lot of good forums turn to trash rapidly, and the initial and intended purpose and goals. Id just like to see the forum stay relevant without punishing those that try to defend its integrity, while the fanboys get off scott free.

i agree with you completely iowa whoever is doing this needs to stop, this is a absolutely great site i find myself cruising around it for hours at a time and its a shame that people want to ruin it its down right childish. but then again it does show that android is getting the attention it really deserves, and people are noticing that it could very well surpass the iphone OS which IMO i think it already has hopefully the mods and rob can do something about this

When I see stuff like that, I just keep scrolling. If someone comes to the ANDROID forums to spout off about their iPhone, I just keep moving if it isn't anything that I haven't heard before.

People are going to spread misinformation whether they are apple fanboys or not. There's so much speculation going on around here that until something clears the FCC, it shouldn't be taken all too seriously anyway.

i agree merf that everyone has a right to a opinion but it seems like there just trying to stir up things and just make people mad

I'm sorry...but posting up a thread, threatening that you're going to leave, on a form for a bunch of phones, is kinda doing the same thing you're complaining about someone else doing...

you're begging for attention, just like these apple fan boys are doing...

These are phones people, these aren't the end of the world devices...they're cell phones...

Exactly. I'm tired of reading spam/troll posts, yet I'm the one and who else(if anyone) get flogged for it. Oh, and if I needed attention, I have my fiance, family, friends, and coworkers so I'm fine in that area. Are YOU? Let's stay on topic and maybe something can be done about these issues.

I have been visiting forums for a long time now, all of them on different topics. The two things that all forums have in common are die hard members and trolls. Trolls are just a part of life on a forum. If you let them eat at you then they win. It pretty much sucks, but it is the way it is. The bad part about the current trolls that are showing up here, as you say Iowa, is that they are posting inaccurate information and in some cases pure lies. For many of us that isn't a big deal. We can filter through the garbage and get to the real info. The problem is with new members and the fact that they generally don't know good from bad.

I can see your passion for this forum in your post, Iowa. I agree with you for the most part. A forum is only as good as the membership that supports it. If the membership goes south, so does the forum. I do hope something is done, but I also believe that those who created this forum don't wish it go south either.

Right, let's keep on the topic of these posts you mention, which are... ???

See that is what the problem is. I am hearing more about you throwing a fit and leaving though you have a fulfilling life with your fiance, family, coworkers, etc ad nauseum with a quick swipe at anyone who dares question you.

If you want to help fix things, point out the offending posts to the staff instead of trying to be a vigilante and stressing out over the fact that someone is wrong on the internet.

People agree with you and it is well known that companies have marketing shills that go out there and do some viral networking (like talking up their product and making often baseless claims about a competitor's product.) It is unfortunate that you got reprimanded when you were trying to help.

It is probably easy enough to get them to expose themselves if you calmly explain what it looks like these individuals are doing in those cases. When dubious people feel their "credibility" being called into question, they often become self-destructive and get themselves banned anyway.

why are you turning this into a personal attack on me? Why not follow your own advice and simply ignore me then? And I have reported said posts to mods, and that's all I need to do. This post is a downright rant, and I wanted to know if I was alone or if people agreed. You can ask the mods I've sent them tons of reports, but I've seen no visible result. Now they may very well be correcting the issue behind the scenes, I don't know! And by no means am I blaming mods, they do a good job, and there are far too many posts for them to be 100%.

And yes, I am guilty of snyde remarks and smartass comebacks, but that's just my nature. Tie that in with the fact I'm from chicago and we don't take people bullsh** here, and you can probably understand why. 99% of the time I really do intend on offending anyone personally, and I'm going to go ahead and apologize to anyone I did offend along the way.

But that doesn't change the fact that we need to do something about these trolls, and we should try tp help the mods whenever we can to keep this forum clean.

Even when I was in that "other" phones forum, there were the same posts as i see here. Because i had the "other" phone loved it...the shortcomings it had were no big deal for me, but were for other people, even die hard "fanboys" critisized the phones shortcomings. I have seen very few intentional inflamatory posts and I agree it is childish...

I want android to succeed but no one seems to have answers to what i feel are the real problems with the OS, for some they are not issues, all they care about is being able to customize the phone, which , hey, no problem, have at it. This OS is a geeks wet dream, but many here have real world use ie, their jobs and businesses.

With the other company, i knew who they were, where they were going and knew their track record of backing products they cared about as well as customers. I still cannot get my money back for being double billed for apps, anyone know what to do? Devs says it was not their fault, it was Google checkout, i called Google last thursday, and they answer their phones just to tell you they don't provide customers any assistance over the phone.

HTC and my carrier could care less..which i understand, but what the hell....

Then there is the fragmentation of the OS talked about here, and this is just one instance http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/43490-google-buzz-better-work-1-5-a.html

You can really see the frustration people are having and it will only grow as Android does, it is clear Google is experimenting on consumers, some may not care, but for those who do need to address these issues. I guess since this is such an open code out there in the wild it will be up to you, the die hard fans to assure us, the newcomers that hey this is for us, and show us something to believe in. Ok we get it, I can have hello kitty wallpapers or even themes great.

What about the carriers not wanting to bother with updating handsets? What about the mish mash of hardware and the incompatibilities? I have read some of the developers forums out there, to see what they think and feel about these and other questions, and let me tell you, it ain't pretty. It is a nightmare. many have to spend so much extra time on even just the little things, like on one handset brand the led of the trackball can do 7 colors , others 3-4 and some just one..and when their app depends as a main feature the colors, well, it can be overwhelming to know which handset has which os and know how it will or won't work.

This is just an example of one problem i have been tracking....

People can be patient to a point. i work with the public doing my job, I know how they are. If they are told and have confidence, people will wait, and work with the system, ie that other "company". Why do you think they have such a loyal following? It ain't because they can have their lego themed phone.

My carrier is now having doubts about getting involved with Android, because of the high maint of the phones, people, in general, not the geeks, do not like to have to fiddle with it all day, and neither does my carrier wish to get into programming and testing of the OS levels as they come out..on a never ending basis, because once they get into that game and sell multiple makes of handsets, there will be no going back.

google could have at least "googled" how to start a business from their own website, and they would have found out they needed live humans to answer the phones and give real tech support and customer service.

Why are you trying to turn this thread into a anti-android pro "other company" thread? This thread is not about that crap, and this is exactly the crap I'm talking about. bbrosen you are one of the many trolls on here. Can you find one post that you posted that was genuinely helpful? Oh, and get an iPhone or iTouch doesnt count.

One more thing, grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwhichs rock.

I wasn't attacking you, I didn't find your post offensive or scroll-by worthy. You're right. You just kind of look like the crazy guy in the street screaming about how the government has really screwed us this time. That crazy guy is right, it's just that the approach used by both of you is not likely to net the results that you want.

I'm glad you went to the mods and at least tried to do what you could. There is no point in asking them if you went to them for help as they shouldn't discuss other users with me anyway.

Grilled PB&J sandwiches you say? If the jelly was strawberry and you added bananas to that, you'd be really hard core.

Well, sorry you see me as a troll. I brought up what I feel to be legit concerns, for me they are all real questions and concerns. If critisizing this platform bothers you i am sorry to rain on your parade.

Guess i shouodnt mention the "other" company if it is the wish of the forum mods and users. I use thehtc hero so i am not just some one here to cause trouble.

I am hoping to root my phone because so many have had such good experiences with speed increase,no lag
And removal of the crapware carriers install. I have not been able to root my phone nor has any one else been able too. Apparently the software version has been modified to not allow root access. Htc hero cdma with cellularsouth. I am stuck with android and this phone
So i am bound and determined to make it work .

Folks, if you're not happy with a post (or a poster) then please report it rather than get sucked into a flame war. Rest assured, any such reports are looked at and if action is required it will be taken. By all means post corrections or repudiations as necessary to set the record straight, but keep it civil. If a thread looks to be heading towards confrontation let the mods/admins know and we'll deal with it.
