2.1 missing features...

I'm just wondering what the 2.1 update is going to actually bring to the milestone.

The Droid is getting 2.1 sometime this week, but engadget is reporting that the only additions will be multitouch, google goggles, news and weather widgets. And that there will be no live wall papers, button app launcher, or 3d app drawer.

Now since the milestone already has multitouch, and goggles from the market - does that mean that the 2.1 "upgrade" is basically adding two widgets!?

That means 2.0.1 will have been a FAR more signifcant update than the supposed "big" upgrade.

Hopefully Moto have something up their sleeve, otherwise they can just skip the update I reckon - I can do without those two new widgets!

I think 2.1 speeds things up and uses less memory. To me, that is more important than animated wallpaper (I mean, really, are we 12yrs old?) or a rotating app drawer. The 5 home screens may come in handy as well.

I can't see the logic in not bringing these things to Droid/Milestone, but if it means we get 2.1 on our Milestones faster, I'm fine with leaving them out.

I sincerely wait for the 2.1 to come with flash suport and with Gmaps navigation... but after all this depends on Adobe and Google and just a part by Motorola. And not to the end the possibility to flash custom roms though Moto has these days opposed to it. All I loved about Moto was this posibility to personalise the soft due to the open doors they left "unintentionaly". Hopefully will see that for a fact.

I don't think 2.1 will have Flash support, I read somewhere that Adobe are working on it for later this year, but it will require changes to Android itself, and since 2.1 is already available, it will need to be a subsequent version.

Google Maps Navigation would be nice. The reason we don't have it in Europe is something to do with map licensing. Google own their own digital maps for the USA and Canada, but they have to license the maps for Europe and their licence does not include turn-by-turn navigation.

just download the hacked google maps with navigation if u want it so much.

as for 5 screens...it doesnt even really matter if you have a home replacement.

IIRC the hacked Google Maps doesn't handle driving on the left-hand side of the road very well.

I agree about 5 screens. Personally, I can live without it, or buy a replacement home app if the need becomes too great.
