OK, it's been leaked, and I've done it. The steps are pretty simple, and this applies for those who want to be rooted and those who do not.
For stock users on 5.5.886 with no partition modifications (Webtop, etc) at all:
For users who have previously applied any update and now the reversion to 5.5.886 blocks the full 5.7.893 update, and users for whom the above did not work:

Turns out, three is a caveat here - obviously only for rooted users who have messed around with the other partitions (like Webtop) on their phone:

So, if you've customized your Webtop partition (or any other partition for that matter) then it's possible that your update will not take, and you'll need to revert fully to stock before before attempting the updates.
For stock users on 5.5.886 with no partition modifications (Webtop, etc) at all:
- Use this post R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R root for the BIONIC v2.1 - xda-developers to get your system reverted to true OOB stock
- This file will revert your BIONIC to stock. It can do it as plain stock or as rooted stock or as 43v3r rooted stock, your choice, all in one.
- Extract the files in the archive to a folder and then run R3L3AS3DRoot.bat and follow the prompts carefully
- Use this file http://www.mediafire.com/file/ah4t6ruiksupuun/Blur_Version.5.5.886.XT875.Verizon.en.US.zip to upgrade to 5.7.893 - place it on SDCard-ext, not internal
- You'll need to boot into stock recovery:
- Power off phone
- With phone powered off, press and hold Vol Up AND Vol Down
- Press the Power button
- In the menu select Recovery
- At the triangle, press BOTH Vol Up and Vol Down
- Move down (vol down) to install update from .ZIP
- Use Power button to select
- Select file
