I read an article or post a while ago stating that with the improvements coming to with ICS, perhaps it would be better to not use the term 'vanilla' anymore. It really doesn't seem to be plain.

What about 'purity', 'natural', 'faultless', 'untampered', 'stainless', 'righteous', etc...
Thoughts or suggestions?

Considering we are talking about ICE CREAM Sandwich, Vanilla is certainly the most appropriate.

Of course it does. Have you seen the Picasa shots that were posted up a while back? They were great.

If every pic was blurry, we'd have a huge outcry from everyone who's tested this thing or given preliminary reviews.

The camera will be fine.

Unless you want to wave it all over the place while jumping up and down, shooting off a picture per second.

This observation isn't out of the blue, it's based on video reviews from testers who are snapping a lot of pics, and commenting that some are blurry.

I'm certain there will be a focus feature, but if it's not a default, or the focus can't be controlled, then some shots may be hit or miss. The devil is in the details, as they say.

In psychology they call it "delusions of grandeur." Verizon likely neither knows nor cares about this minority subsect of the population. The notion that VZ is toying with any small group is silly, IMO. They very likely have sound business reasons for releasing phones when they release them and I guarantee they don't check in here first for feedback. Just saying.

I am sorry that I didn't specify, but I assumed that the intended hyperbole was obvious. In no way, shape, or form do I really think the Verizon execs are watching this thread with sinister delight. I do think our respective opinions are more important to them, because they know that the early adopters can, and will, make or break the success of a device such as this. Hence their silence on a release date, or anything as they don't want to perpetuate rumors of hardware/software issues with this phone. They do want to sell a lot of them and the overpriced data plans that will go along with them.

I don't understand how Moto can have such great radios and such washed out color in their pictures. Maybe they don't think the camera is important?

Instead of getting upset at Verizon, we should probably wait until the phone is actually released somewhere. That way, we know ICS is ready, and the Nexus hardware is ready. Once that happens it will basically be an LTE issue or a Verizon issue, if it isn't released, yet.

I'm certain there will be a focus feature, but if it's not a default, or the focus can't be controlled, then some shots may be hit or miss. The devil is in the details, as they say.

Of course if you're pointing the camera here and there rapidly firing off shots in low light conditions...yes, it will be blurry...but then again so would a dSLR in those conditions. Focus isn't a feature on a camera...it's essential to a camera's operation. Any camera used indoors will require a steady hand to produce blur free shots...this is even true of a dSLR with a wide open aperture and high ISO.

Motorola's history has been about communications, not cameras. If Canon came out with a phone, I would expect it to have a fantastic camera, but so-so radios, because they've no experience in that field.

Look fine to me but I'm not a photographer I have taken a total of 5 pics on my cell phone in 2 years. Just don't use it.

As long as a pic is focused they all look "good" to me. But thats just me

Didn't they focus it once in the announcement video by pressing the screen? I'll have to go back and look.

More trying to be optimistic here.....I am 2 classes away from my Industrial Engineering degree and one thing that I have learned is that sitting on inventory costs money. I just can't see Verizon getting these phones in their warehouses this week and then sitting on them for too long unless there is a big problem. I am by no means any kind of expert but has anyone else thought about that aspect? People keep saying they want to profit more on the extra software installed on the RAZR but they also have to take into account the holding costs of the Nexus phones just sitting in their warehouses.

About the camera, the zero shutter lag is one big reason I want this phone. I hope it turns out to be a great camera but if not it has to better than any Motorola product... My Droid X has the absolute worst camera that I have ever had in a cell phone. It is so freaking slow

Pretty simple...Moto is a communications company. Therefore the cellular radio will excell in their products. Samsung is an electronics company who makes a lot of cameras and televisions...so they know a thing or two about camera sensors and color reproduction.

Yep, and will either seal or kill the deal for me. I'm tired of snapping blurry pics with my poor old OG. Been thinking about defecting to RAZR (probably not REZOUND due to potential battery issues) and this plus the SD card issue is making me want to defect.

I expect mediocrity with the camera aspect, as it is not being marketed that way. I think they expected the Nexus crowd to be much more interested in the other specs, and they're probably right.

Yes, I suppose you're right. And that's part of the reason I know I won't be disappointed with the camera or screen in the SGN.

Not much of an argument from me, just wanted to give you some insight as to where the sentiment was coming from.

But as I alluded to before, the details are what makes a poor to mediocre to great camera. Focus is essential, but if the autofocus performance is subpar, then the camera will also be subpar.

I don't think that is the case, but I will wait to make my own determination when I have this phone in my hands. I expect a great camera, great radios, great GPS performance, and great hardware. Anything less then I'll return and wait for the next device.
