***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Is it just me or 100mah doesnt really mean much. How come everyone is hoping for an extra 100? I'd rather see 2000 vs 1850.

Compared to my OG droid, 1850 seems like a huge battery. Doesn't the og droid have like a 1300mah battery?

Plenty more to drive obviously, huge screen, dual core processor, LTE radio (for those of you lucky enough to live in an LTE area)...

looking at the size of the 2050 mAH note battery it doesn't seem that big. They should have been able to fit something like that in the gnex...

Maybe they are getting really good battery life out of the 1850 and felt there wasn't a real need to spend the extra money to put a 2050mah battery in? I mean there are always other options out there you can buy.

I have faith in Steven's source of info saying there was a bump in the battery spec to 1850. Not official by any means, but I'm optimistically assuming 1850. If it's updated in the OP, it must be true, right? :D

I wouldn't have too much faith in that dudes "leaks", he hasn't really supplied any kind of solid info that hasn't already been leaked elsewhere.

I respect your opinion, opinions by their nature are always valid.

I would respectfully argue with your premise though. As the largest and most followed thread of its kind in the Gnex community, news blogs are following this closely.

Steven's been too humble to admit it, but there have been many days when stories out there were credited to "that good mod Steven58" on lesser blogs, then quickly picked up and cross-referenced by the larger blogs, until finally, you get the inevitable rip off of the last story in that chain, citation removed, and that becoming the new basis.

Graphically, it looks like this:

TheSource -> Steven58 -> A -> B -> C -> (X) -> Y -> Z

where: the letters are all news blogs, where C says they got it from B, B says from A, A says from Steven58 at AF. X credits no one, just plagiarizes C without shame, then Y and Z claim it all started with X.

I've been on record exposing the chicanery of news blogs here at AF for over a year - since the Froyo predictions, that's why I joined. (My initial claim to fame here was as the first to accurately predict the date of Froyo release for the Evo, fwiw.)

Whenever Steven has updated the OP with new source stuff, he has always alerted me in real time via skype just before hitting hitting submit. (OK - almost always, as in since I joined this thread.) Then while he and other mods watch the action, I go off and trace the story thru the blogosphere, just a little hobby we have - plus it keeps Steven's spirits up when he gets called on the carpet, and that's what friends are for. ;)

I'm not claiming that this is the 100% case. Sometimes, The Source simply validates rumors already out there, that's true, but only in small part.

To marginalize Steven or his source is not just - but, that's simply my opinion, based on my claims above.

Dear readers are encouraged to decide for themselves - that's all we're ever about here at AndroidForums.com anyway. :) ;)

PS - also fwiw, I've wrangled inside sources for Phandroid without having a viral thread, so I know something of the difficulty in validating a source and knowing when and what to trust.

From that experience, I completely endorse Steven's handling of this entire affair as simply outstanding!

So then you will have to press something else up against the window :D

Off topic (really what hasn't been off topic here?) but I'm starting to consider getting a supplemental tablet. I know the Gnex is large, but it seems tablets are acquiring more and more practicality with apps using the larger screen real-estate and taking the place of books and magazines.

I've always thought that if I were to get a tablet, it would be the eeePad transformer, and of course the transformer 2 is coming out which should be just as solid as the first. However, the more I think about it, the Kindle Fire is intriguing.

The amazon ecosystem is a double edged blade, on one side you have a fantastic service in Amazon Prime. Netflix-like video streaming (and I canceled netflix due to their recent screw ups), a free book to read monthly, daily app deals and a nice cherry on top, free 2 day shipping on a *lot* of amazon items.

On the other side, there's no android marketplace (only amazon), there's no guaranteeing that dev's can ROM it and still keep the very nice core amazon functionaly, and it's basically taking away from android's freedom.

$200 is a heck of a price point for a tablet though. I thought $400 for the transformer was great, and although I'd much rather have a 9-10" screen than a 7" (wouldn't every guy) I'm not sure it's worth the extra ca$h. For $200, assuming Amazon keeps a similar model, I can upgrade to the next kindle fire in the future.

But then I just keep thinking of how it lacks functionality (sensors, cameras, open-ness), cutting-edge technology and size.

In the interest of adding something relevant to the thread, Gnex in 12 days! =P

haha hey! nexus is exclusive again! haha

The site still doesn't say that. They probably got a wrist-slap for that because they're not being communicative about the SGN. As soon as they open up and start talking about it, then they can start talking about HOW they're exclusive. As in they're the exclusive US carrier, not that they're the exclusive seller of the device or that it's a world-wide exclusive.

I'm personally waiting until they come up with a good solution similar to the Padfone. Preferably some kind of Padfone Transformer Ultra Prime that has a dockable smartphone for the guts, the tablet and screen has its own battery, and a keyboard into which the tablet can dock.

It'll happen soon enough. In fact within 10 years that's what most of us will be using instead of PCs ;)

Wasn't there a rumor a while back that there would be a tablet-dock for the GNex? The concept being that the GNex would dock into the back of a"gutless" tablet and power it. Seems to me like an ideal solution, and the GNex certainly has the power.

Thank you, Early!

I don't deserve your kind words, and I'll tell you this. This thread would've become totally chaotic without you. I think we work well together as a team. :)
