I don't get port COM5 I get Samsung Android USB Diagnostic Serial Port (WDM) on COM20 and they say COM20 in just for registered version only so I can't connect. Why am I getting COM20 and not COM5 like xPureEvilx?

I would try using a diffrent USB Port, But other then that Iam not sure.... Anyone else have an idea.

Sorry,

This is an excellent post. Thanks. Now to figure out what one works best for me.
One question currently. Does changing the PRL effect my service. will ST notice anything?

A PRL will just change the priority in which you phone connects to cell towers. Can be better or worse it just depends on where you are and which PRL you use.

Straight Talk shouldnt be able to detect that, but I just wouldnt call Tech Support and give them a reason to look at your info.

[Disclaimer: They could cancel your service for stuff like this, but its very unlikely this would ever happen. But proceed at your own risk.... Tip: If they ever do ask, Playing dumb can go a long way.]

Yeah, I've been with ST for awhile, had the Razr, which got excellent signal out here in the boonies, would still have if it weren't for a 3" downpour while camping. It was on the Verizon network, So I went ahead and got the Precedent, I have good signal everywhere except out her at the house. What do you think the chances are that I could flash a verizon PRL to the phone. From the research I've done so far, it seems that the phone has the same bandwidth. From whatr I gather, it's in the 800/1900.

since i have been checking PRL files most of them have the verizon, as well as Sprint, and Alltel, Cricket, and other networks already in them the problem is that you have to be within like 5 miles of a tower to get a decent signal. you could try a verizon prl but i am not sure that you would have service afterwards and would have to revert back to a sprint prl file, if you look in the PRLs post i posted some of the newer prls for sprint including a hybrid its 61677 you could try these and see if any of them help..

Tried the 61677, Notta on my end. When I find one that gets me connected out here. It will definitely be the one for everyone. I'm so far out in the woods. I have a tower in "Town" quotations are dependent on what everyone defines a town. It isn't a sprint tower. I opensignals, and it points out toward the nearest city. I run it about mile from thetower, My guess since Verizon is a5 bar connection. it is a tower verizon has vested interest in. I just changed over to the new PRL listed in the PRL files thread, we'll see.

I'll post later.

I have followerd these instructions, and flashed my 1st prl, I tried to do another, and cd-ma says "failed phone does not answer". Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It does that to me if I use an invalid PRL file. Did you get the PRL file from this thread or somewhere else on the web?

I got the PRL's from this thread, from some further reading, it's indicating that my phone is not turning on in DM. I am going to try removing battery, rebooting, then dbl checking USB debugging. I'll see if that helps. Thanks

it takes more than usb debugging turned on to flash prls, follow each step of this Guide to the letter and it will work everytime.

I followed the guide to the letter and it still only shows the soft modem, it doesn't allow me to see Samsung Android USB Diagnostic Serial Port at all

any help would be appreciated, i'm eager to give this a shot :)

Did you download and install the Samsung USB drivers?
Are you using a Samsung USB cable(yes this makes a difference)?
Is your phone in Debug mode?
Did you connect the USB cable to your computer?
Did you try a different USB port on your computer?
Do you have any issues when connecting your phone as a mass storage device?

This is the most common problem when people cant connect:
Goto your Phones DialPad and dial ##8778# -> enter your MSL -> Select USB

You have to do this step every time, and if USB is already selected then unselect it and reselect it. (You have to do this everytime)
