Star Wars Books

I need to pull my finger out and get wired into more Star Wars books; the only one I've read is Truce at Bakura.

Best place to start?

Well Truce at Bakura is the book that comes directly after the last movie (episode 6) so that is a good place to continue.

The first actual Star Wars books were written by Timothy Zahn and the trilogy is called "The Thrawn Trilogy" The author is actually the one who came up with name Coruscant. It is still one of the best star wars series EVER!! But there are about 350 SW novels (referred to as TEU, ie the expanded universe) so it all depends on what you like... You into the Old Republic era? There are books set thousands of years before the movies, there are stand alone books set directly before and after each movie as well.

The Rise of Vadar series is also awesome, along with the Death Star book

(I could go on and on, lol)

Thanks. From the little I've read up on via wookiepedia etc, I'm actually quite interested in Vhong(?) and their story. Also, Vader ridding the galaxy of Jedi so the Rise of Vader sounds quite appealing.

Thrawn could be quite interesting too, his name rings a bell from the ancient X-Wing & TIE Fighter games.

I could tell this is a subject you could go on and on about. :p

The Yuhazzman Vong (can never remember how to spell that) is when they decided (delrey and lucasbooks) to tie everything into each other. No more random stand alone books here and there. New Jedi Order series (vong) is when everything hits the fan. Tons of people get killed off, trillions are murdered.... REALLY gets good

Also ANYTHING vadar is the bomb... Rise and Death Star are GREAT.

Also ALL the 'Tales' books: Tales of the bounty hunter, tales of the empire, tales of mos eisley cantina, tales of the new republic, etc

Timothy Zahn's trilogy and follow up Thrawn Books are fantastic. He really creates some great and dynamic characters along the way. He's also a really great writer outside of Star Wars. Highly Recommended.

Recently have read quite a few of his other books.... Icarus Hunt is awesome, Cobra series, and a series about a alien invasion (cant remember what it is called)

His star wars books though are his crown jewel though, the characters he created were great, Talon Karrade, Mara Jade, Palleon, Thrawn, to name a few...

I think youre think of the Conquerors Trilogy? I loved Icarus Hunt and the Cobra series which he recently started writing more books in.

Have you read his most recent Star Wars book? Choices of One? came out this past July. They also released a 20th anniversary edition of Heir To The Empire with notes from Zahn.

There's at least 2 new Cobra books that have come out over the last year or so. They're pretty solid.

Holy crap! No I haven't... Though i generally just look at the paperbacks.

Looking those up right now, thanks!

You're quite welcome. I worked in a bookstore so hardbacks were quite cheap and we had the ability to check books out library style. But I buy everything Zahn releases so I bought those two.

That star wars book seems like it is the sequel for allegience (which was AWESOME)... cant wait to read it, still havent looked up the cobra books yet

It was pretty good. I read his Star Wars stuff in one or two sittings typically. I'm going to start The Fate of The Jedi series soon, I think.

Yea I been putting that off till they are almost done with it. Loved NJO and Legacy... can't wait to see/read what next series has to offer....

Havent read a SW book since i finished legacy over 2 years ago (i think)

was Legacy the 9 book series that Karen Traviss wrote some of? I loved that series, especially the Fett background(although not the killing of you know who). Outside of Choices of One I've not read any in about as long too.

Thats the one. Lots of stuff on Mandor, the whole fett has cancer deal.... loved the background on him, really hated Jacen in that series

Finishing up The Last Command of the Thrawn Trilogy. Should be finished by next week Tuesday. Curious to see if Thrawn's Noghri bodyguard turns on him by the end of the story.

Will be gun hunting this weekend. If it is slow, I might sneak in some of Revan's Old Republic book that I have on my Nook app. Now very little about Revan but love reading Old Republic books (Bane's first is outstanding). The author that wrote Bane is covering Revan. Otherwise, I would have started with Darth Plageius's book first. Hope there is a lot of Palpatine in that book.

I been out of touch! There is a Plageius book already? And +1 of Revan author, that is the guy who is a lead writer at bioware, he's the one who did a lot of the KOTOR game.

I miss the first time I read thrawn trilogy... there are some thrawn short stories and some books with him in it from way before that trilogy... all are very excellent reads.
