well I finally managed to slip the phone out of my hand and fling it ontot he ground with sufficient force to bust it :(

It actually still works, except for 1/4" black band running through the screen :(

I guess that insurance finally paid off! (had it for YEARS on the last two smartphones and never had to use it.... Droid is built very well, but the Samsung i730 and i770 make the droid look flimsy in comparison)

I have never had insurance, but I noticed when I ordered my phones online it stated that I only had 30 days to activate insurance if I wanted it. I'd imagine this saves them from people who wait months until something does go wrong, add insurance, then claim the damage was done after.

I too have never had insurance, but this is also my first smartphone. I've always had the free or near free flip phones in the past, and insurance on those seemed unnecessary. If one of my flip phones break, I've got an army of distinguished veterans ready to come out of retirement and take its place. But that is not the case with the Droid. If the Droid breaks, reactivating one of my old flip phones doesn't seem like a very good option. I've only owned my Droid for two weeks, but I am already very fond of it.

Speaking of only owning it for two weeks, I've got a couple of specks of dust under the screen. My understanding is if one can get in, more will probably follow. This concerns me, and is another reason I'm considering getting insurance.

take it back now while you can! if you wait till 31+ days and have to use your insurance, it will cost you $80

I believe it has to be added to your account within the first month of owning the phone but im not 100% positive on the time. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong.

I was told within the first 13 days.

I got my droid yesterday, but went back to the store today to get the bodyglove, because the phone was just too slippery and I knew I'd drop it taking it out of my pocket. With the bodyglove on, I feel pretty confident I won't drop it.

typically if you do the math, its best to keep the insurance for a year or so, depending on how prices go. $108/year + $90 deductible) = a total cost to you to replace the phone of $198 if it dies in a year.

if it dies in two years, that number changes to $306 to replace it (insurance + deductible). At some point the avg. price of a used phone off ebay will become lower, and you're best off canceling the insurance.

I think if you don't carry insurance for at least the first 6 months, you're pretty damned foolish and going to get burned.

True, but I'd say cancelling the insurance after 2 years because you'd be eligible for upgrade and instead of $90 to get a refurbished Droid you could pay $150-$200 to get a Droid3 with a 1024x768 HD AMOLPLEDWTFBBQ KingKong Glass screen and QuadCore 1.5 GHz ARM & Leg Texas Instruments processor.

I don't have insurance but I've felt foolish for not getting it. I get to upgrade every 10 months so here's to hoping my phone lasts for a few more months.

I have dropped it face down once and there are some bumps on the casing around the screen and a small scuff on the screen. It's too late for a case or screen protector since it's already seen some battle.
