Help Don't get too excited but...

This one COULD (there is a possibility) be a at home flash, but once again it is probably due to a SBL update and recovery kernel update (bml8 and bml2) that require odin to flash.. since sprint wont release the odin they use (damn futuredial RMS system) there is only 1 "offical" way to do it... BTW there is slim to no chance in hell this will be OTA.. we are talking about a 150+ mb file being downloaded.. btw the cl14 update was 134 mb roughly...

I am filing this in the might be true, but i still highly doubt it since we havent seen any indication of M900 2.1 in the FUS system...

hey numus..
i spoke to the "advanced techs" today and one mentioned that there was 2 CL14 updates the more recent which takes care of the airplane mode issue. do you happen to know if thats something CL14 users are reporting is fixed? other forums say it isnt. in any case im going to my third "repair center" tomorrow. these people have a shit-mess going on. they cant tell you which location has the update and even worse one guy argued that i could apply updates directly from the samsung website and something or other about a unicorn. i hope to find a location that can do this so i can update to 2.1 (unicorn edition) when its "available" .. keep up the good work numus/sdx

I talked to an "advanced Tech" the other day when I called Sprint about something else and we got on the subject about the CL14 update and he was very surprised that NO ONE could get this update right. I told him they say they don't have it, they don't have the right drivers, it's been recalled, blah blah blah, and he was like Really? and then was like too bad they don't have it OTA like Blackberries do. :p

I highly doubt 2 CL14's exist... CL14 (cj05, cj01, ect) are build numbers which change when they change files.. .plus anytime they change something and release it to the general public (in the case of the linux kernel this is) they MUST (repeat MUST) opensource the changes in teh kernel... For these reasons i wouldn't put much stake into the 2 CL14 theory...

To tell you the truth.. i have NEVER experienced an Airplane mode style CDMA lockup (except during tether and large data transfers) and i know a lot of other people havent so we really have no idea what is going on with that

I can tell you other then the SBL and Kernel, the SDX CL14 is IDENTICAL to the sprint CL14... The SBL just allows a recovery kernel to be booted out of bml8 but since we put all the extra files in bml8 with no recovery, there is no reason for us to upgrade the SBL (plus cl14 sbl doesn't allow odin 3.98 to flash anymore.. only odin 4.03 and we have a problem with odin 4.03 and partial flashes)...
I take that back, the stock cl14 kernel is the same, but the ze10+ series kernels are all cl14 kernel with enhancements and improvements...
No idea what the hell unicorn is in reference to tho...

CL14 gives the moment some basic tools to allow OTA updates in the future (these will be limited to minor OS/Kernel updates only tho)
Unlike hte Blackberry OS.. the android OS is FRIGGEN HUGE! the CL14 modified os is about 130+ mb and the 2.1 should be around 150+ mb... to download that OTA would be a huge bandwidth limitation on the network and a huge drain on your phone... Likewise, preCL14 the moment DID NOT have a recovery console (meaning if you screwed up an update, and didn't know how to use the "hacked" odin method you were SOL.. had to bring it to a store no matter what).. CL14 updated the bml2 partition with a new SBL that allowed the booting of a recovery kernel located in bml8 (which also was added since bml8 didnt do anything in cj05 really)... Zefie/SDX roms all have a custom built recovery console which allows you to do a ton more then the stock samsung/sprint one.. so we dont need a recovery kernel (thus bml8 is loaded with all the /extra/ folder stuff like busybox, ssh portal, and other modifications)..

To sum it up, we can't flash bml2 or bml8 unless the phone is in odin mode (only possible at this time connected to a computer running odin)... furthermore there was no way to flash back to a "factory" state and reapply if an OTA update went bad... so cl14 never would have been OTA.. as for the 2.1.. it is simply way to large to be an OTA style update, thus the way it is proposed roll out...

As much trouble as the techs had getting CL14 installed on a lot of devices... I don't think I'd even want to try an OTA update for something that major. Also, for an update like this, it will do a factory reset on the handset.

For that reason alone, I think Sprint is making the right choice having users come into the stores so that the techs can advise them of this in person. I know a confirmation button could pop up to notify users that their devices would be reset, but I don't think most users would really understand what that means.

Meh. I don't really care about Sprint's rumors; I only care about SDX rumors when they say they've got a 2.1 for me. I trust them a hell of a lot more than Sprint and I have more resources to consult if there's ever a problem.

I have been in tech for years and know that the Linux folk are an awesome group. Yes they're abrasive at times, but that just comes from having more time for computers and programming than for social exchanges.

Sprint support (just like all support centers) is about people, not technology so when given a choice, I'll take those well-versed in tech.

So, Numus/Zefie/Etc., hurry up and get us the 2.1! ;o)

Yeah the 150MB to EVERY moment owner would wreak ultimate havoc, plug thier phones would be inoperable for 15/20 min. And at home/in store flash is a much more viable option

Like the "havoc" that happens every time the Pre gets updated OTA? Well. to be fair those upgrades are only ~130mb each instead of 150mb and there are probably a whole lot more Pre's than Moments in the Sprint system (5x? 10x? more?). The Pre has only had 4 OTA updates, maybe the 5th (1.4)will be the "havoc" charm? I'll say it again, there is absolutely no excuse for the shameful way Samsung is upgrading/treating this phone. The only reason a modern smartphone owner should ever go to a repair center is to get a phone REPAIRED...period!
