Help check if it is 2.2

Prolly right there El Prez.... maybe yet to be proven App.

It was just a thought.... might still become very useful.... I like the simple interface and the idea of using a Nandroid as source? No?

Aye, it probably needs a little refinement.

Apologies if it came across as if I was rubbishing your suggestion sir

Nae need for any apology, or indeed embarrassment, a chara.......:)

I have taken your suggestion on board, and put the App Extractor para in quotes, with a warning note.

Please do feel free to add suggestions to this thread, which is really about helping new Android adopters achieve a level of competence in rooting, flashing custom ROM's, installing useful Apps and generally getting to know their way around the strange new world of Android generally, specifically on the ZTE Blade.

I would welcome all contributions here.

Simmo, to add to Dannymurs post a couple above this one, sometimes you'll find that your phone hasn't been syncing to Gmail because the contacts are set as phone contacts, not Google contacts. To check, log in to the gmail account associated with the handset and click contacts, if they're there excellent

Hello dannymur,
a couple of problems, App2SD not compatible with phone.
Launcher Pro on phone but cannot open.
My Phone explorer, cannot open email account.
Which is the best App to use to get rid of unwanted apps eg. games etc.?
I am not sure about Cache Cleaner NG at this time what would I really need it for?

It won't be until you have 2.2 on there (unless you have already?)

Launcher Pro on phone but cannot open.

Hit the home button, it should give you the option to switch to LPP (and make it the default)

My Phone explorer, cannot open email account.

Where is it asking for your email account? It only needs this to sync with the outlook/thunderbird account on your PC iirc. If you don't have that setup, I think it will give that error message.

With titanium you can freeze stuff you don't want/need. I'd be careful though, as removing/freezing a system app could cause the phone to hang on bootup.

Hi El Presidente, I have been checking to see if my contacts are their but I cannot get into my account for some reason , it keeps asking me to put in my password. Orange sent me an email while I was doing this so I phoned and they said a few phones were doing this at the moment and would have to go to the factory reset option.

Don't factory reset (yet anyway). If you're rooted, you can still backup your apps etc to the SD Card with Titanium. You can also export your contacts to the SD Card too, just don't import them to the gmail account. So in the link I gave, just go through steps 1-10. :)

I know you're just going by what Orange have told you, but I'm not sure how factory resetting will have any bearing on your ability to access to your gmail account via your PC? What exactly is happening when you try to access?

danny n presidente i swear youz are saints lol :)
jst bookmarkd this thread for any1 needin help like this :)

We're just here to help. :)

Simmo, can you backup your contacts using the method I mentioned here and have you installed Titanium? If not, can you do so now please?

Once installed, open TB. the first time it runs it takes a little while to open as it needs to scan the apps you've installed and check for root/busybox access. If you get a super user prompt up, click allow. Once it's done what it needs to do, you'll be presented with a screen like the one below:

screenshot-1320825663146.png

From there, hit the Backup & Restore button at the top of the screen. This will take you to a list of all the apps installed on your handset. On that screen, hit the menu button on your phone, then filters.

In the next screen, under the section entitled, Filter By Type, you want to put a tick in the box which says User, then press the Apply button at the top right hand side of the page.

You'll then be taken to back to the list of apps you've installed on your phone.

From there, hit menu, then batch and you'll be taken to a screen which looks like this:

screenshot-1320826215539.png

You want to hit RUN next to backup all users apps, the next screen you see will look like this:

Press select all, then run the batch operation. It will then backup alll your apps and the data associated with them. Once you've done that, let me know and we can take it from there.

Nearly there!

As Danny suggested, download the ROM from here. It'll be the first link on the page you want (Swedish_Spring_RLS5.zip). Once completed, copy that to the root (not in any folder) of your phones SD Card. You'll then want to download an MD5 checksum checker, which you can get from here. Once downloaded, open the zip file, then move MD5.exe to your desktop and double click to open it. Once you've opened it, copy the MD5 (C801FDAD511944C9CEE7139E866E160C) to the clipboard of your PC, then hit browse and navigate to Swedish_Spring_RLS5.zip on the root of your SD Card. The bar at the top of the MD5 program should turn green.

If it does, close the app and disconnect your phone from the PC. If it doesn't, redownload the ROM zip file and try again.

I've just seen your edit, the SQLite above the bit which says Dropbox access. Is it ticked?

Is that all it's doing? If you head to the apps menu, I think there's an app called Launcher chooser or something like that? If you open it, you can select an alternative to the Orange Launcher, that might sort.

Failing that, did you delete the app, or rename it?

The next step was the actual ROM flash if you still want to go ahead with it?

Hi guys....little problem here, it seems.

Firstly, no need to remove Orange Branding and Apps, they will disappear after you have flashed your new ROM, Swedish Spring I think, unless you want to return to Stock 2.1, from the Nandroid Back-up you have made

You have made a back-up in Recovery???

I did not see it above, and if you have not, it may be too late!!

Secondly, did you remove any system app or apps, with that App (System App Remover)??

It looks like the Orange Launcher is missing.....

When you launched that App, there was a warning pop-up, below:

SAR%20Warning.jpg

Warning on first Launch of System App Remover

But no worries, your phone is not bricked, I am sure of that.

If you can get into Recovery [Remember.....Vol Down and Power held together while powering up],

and you have downloaded the Swedish Spring zip file to your PC, as mentioned above by El Prez

you can use Recovery to connect to your PC, and mount your phone there, as USB storage, so we can see the SD card contents:

I have a pic from my PC to illustrate this:

ZTE_from_Recovery.JPG

Blade mounted as FAT32 [G:] drive from Recovery

more later.......mostly working with ClockworkMod Recovery....exciting, eh!!

So, for tonite, just download that SS 5 ROM zip file, as above........

and, let me know if you can get into Recovery, as above, so we will then proceed to:

  1. wiping data/factory reset......
  2. wiping cache partition......
  3. wiping the Dalvik cache........

The famous 3 wipes [wipe/wipe/wipe] essential before flashing a new ROM, especially going from one generation of Android to the next.

More piccys tomorrow........OK

Ciao
