***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Guys, I'm having a strange feeling about maybe settling for the RAZR. Anyone else feel the same?

Not saying that I'm going to do it. I'm not. It's just a very strange, strange feeling.

No way. I went and checked it out today at lunch. Didn't like the feel of it at all. That w/ a subpar screen, no removable battery and probable heat issues remove it from my list.
The Rezound would definitely be my second choice, and I am actually going to take a look at it before I completely decide on the SGN. The sd card thing is nice, the screen is going to be beautiful, and I don't think it is really all that thick - there are a bunch of unboxing videos out there now. None of these standard batteries are going to give you 1.5-2 days w/ LTE you're going to have to be charging it in a car or at your office, no matter which one you get. And I think people just like to stomp their feet and scream a lot about "bloatware" but this thing is probably already rooted if that is such a travesty to you. I also kind of like the size a little better it's in between my Dinc and the SGN so I guess it wouldn't bother me to trade a little thickness for width in my pocket.

Nope. If it somehow falls through, which I doubt, I'll hold on to my DX until the spring. I'm not wasting an upgrade on the RAZR.

durango,

I don't doubt you at all, but I also don't understand this point. Perhaps I'm not as sensitive as many members regarding screen quality, but I've looked at the RAZR screen several times now, watching videos, surfing the net and other stuff and I can read the screen just fine. Text looks clear and nice and color saturation is nice. It's not a BRIGHT screen if outdoor / sunlight is an issue for you, but I don't get people's obsession with pixelation, especially on this phone. If I hold my face about 2 inches from the screen I can see pixels. If i'm surfing normally I really can't. Sorry to be the weird one in the group, but if I'm just doing all the "normal stuff" on the phone, the screen looks beautiful to me. Just my 2 cents.

No problem. My test for this type of phone is simple. I call up a site like engadget, theverge, etc, not on the mobile site, but the full website. If I can read the small text in an article without zooming in, I consider the screen resolution to be good. If I can't I consider the screen to be not up to my standards. Simple as that. I can read sites like that on my wife's iphone 4, my thunderbolt (not as well), but I can't on the RAZR when I looked at it yesterday. I'm not sying the screen is bad for everyone, but for those of us who have good/excelent/superhuman vision, it matters.

i can also totally relate to the itch to get something new. but, having been around these forums for the last couple of years with my OG, and watching how quickly new and better devices come out, i'm forcing myself to be deliberate in my choice to make sure i get what i want for the next 20 months...

Sorry for bumping this so late in the game (I had to go out and get something for dinner)

But +1 on this! This is what it's all about (if you are subsidizing, which I'm sure most of us are). Whatever phone you get now will need to make you happy for the next 20-24 months. If you think the RAZR or Vigor can do this, great, I''m actually envious of you because your device of choice has a solid release date.

For me, having the Vibrant on T-Mobile this entire time really drilled this into my head. I'm 8 months away from being free from my contract, but I'm breaking it early to go over to VZW and the Nexus (and paying a price to do so) because I absolutely hate my phone and my service. Call me a hardcore skeptic, but I do not trust any manufacturer/carrier to give me timely updates and support anymore because of my experience with my device. It was released with Eclair a few weeks after Froyo, and both T-Mobile and Samsung assured everyone that it would see Froyo in a matter of a couple of months tops. We didn't get a proper Froyo release for 8 months, and by that time Gingerbread was already out. And despite the Nexus S being 90 percent the same device, I will never get the GB update.

So when HTC and Moto release these awesome phones (and they are both awesome in their own ways and lacking in others, no phone is perfect) and then say, oh but don't worry we will get ICS out to you immediately, I call BS. These phones WILL see ICS, but when is another story. But going back to my experience, seeing the Nexus S get so much more support and care from Google while my phone was totally abandoned by T-Mo/Samsung made me swear that as long as the next Nexus wasn't a huge disappointment, it would be my next device.

I look at both the RAZR and ReZound and see really nice Gingerbread devices. But we are passed GB and looking into the next iteration, and for me, the GNex is really the only device that makes sense for me to have for the next 24 months. Other people could be totally different and want that slim form factor or the Beats Audio with HD screen, and that's great too, that's what makes the Android platform so much better than the iOS platform, choice. But me personally, Verizon can flash any shiny new phone in front of me all it wants, it won't deter me from having the bloat-free, ICS, updates-right-from-Google experience that only the Nexus will deliver.

All I'm gonna say is, you guys are gonna feel extreme buyer's remorse if you buy the RAZR and then 6 days later, the phone you've been lusting for for months comes out

The 6 days of your life you'll save is nothing compared to the anguish you'll feel for another 1-2 years :D
In that case they only have to pay $35 to get an annulment.

so the Dinc thread has the most posts, is that correct? perhaps vzw is waiting til we beat that.

Well Dinc thread has an unfair advantage in that it had massive amounts of off topic discussion. The Mods have worked hard to keep that to a much lower percentage here, while still maintaining the fun atmosphere. I don't expect to beat it, even at 1k per day, would take over three weeks to beat the Dinc thread.

I remember reading conversations about putting cases and screen protectors on their phones. I never liked them personally. But when I got my Thunderbolt I purchased a silicon case and a screen cover. The reason is my job. Technically we aren't suppose to have phones while working, but pretty much everyone does anyway. My hands can get pretty dirty at times and the screen protector has kept my screen in perfect condition. I would love it if I could get a junk phone and seamlessly switch during and after work. But, when I get the Nexus I'll end up getting a case and screen protector. I'll take the case off when not working.

Yeah me too:p But I am enthralled with this phone, so why not spend a bunch of time with people who feel the same way. You know its gonna be good, when the Mods, and big name tech writers are saying the same thing.

I plan on buying the RAZR tomorrow or Saturday and then using my upgrade for the G Nex when it finally comes out. Once I figure out which one I like best, I'll sell the other one on eBay or Craigslist. Love both phones equally for different reasons, but ICS alone cannot be the sole reason I buy a G Nex when the RAZR will have it in Q1 2012.
