Why Android Versions are codenamed on the names of eatables?

What's the relation between Google and eatables?? Why are Android versions always codenamed as something eatable? Does anyone know the answer??

Well, they are deserts and deserts are usually something sweet, so maybe Google wanted to make the association that Android == sweet.

Either that, or that they could pick more names for deserts than say...large cats. I wonder what the next OS X will be named? Ferocious Bobcat?! I think they expended all the large cats.

"Apple OSX Kittens. Yes, the worlds best operating system just got adorable" But i would think that android does it because they are delicious/sweet foods so they try to put that image in your head. Especially since the devices are usually advertised as Android x.x "food" so its never really just a number so the naming is important

From what i hear google is a very laid back and fun place to work. At least that's what a friend of my mothers who works for them tells me. Basically it's like a big frat house of jokers at times. If this is true i can see them naming the various operating systems after food just for the hell of it.

Why try to think up a cool name like Linux, OS ST3 Extreme etc when you can just name it after various food items and call it a day? As long as it works who cares what it's called.

there's a tradition in software development to have a code name for your major versions... And typically those code names have a common theme. Google decided on desserts as their theme. And that's that.

I don't like sweet stuff - they could have used Habanero, Pequino Pepperoncini - all chili peppers which equates to HOT.

Can't be any stranger than Ubuntu - Maverick Meerkat, 10.10, Natty Narwhal 11.04, and Oneiric Ocelot 11.10

Like Novoxx said. Google uses deserts. Mac uses big cats. Microsoft used to use place names, but I don't know if they still do that. When I used to make some apps (back in the Win9X days), I used water themes (Like "Project Raging Stream")

For the WP OS, it seems they'll use fruits, although not sure of the order, as their first major update was Mango...

Symbian^3 by Nokia uses ladies' names (Anna, Belle, etc).
