Not that I want the RAZR , but I'm not so sure a none-removable battery is all that much of a deal breaker. Sure, there have been days that I have had to put my X on a charger before I got home, but I have never had to have an extra battery. I just keep a charger handy, I have one at home, one in the car, and one on my tool box at work. I'm usually not too far from and outlet.

A spare battery isn't the issue for me. It's the numerous times I've had to pull the battery out of my X to get it into bootloader to sbf it after getting stuck on a screen that is unresponsive to all hardware and capacitive buttons. Or, getting stuck forever on a boot logo screen.

Leaning toward the GNex, the lack of an SD card slot is not really an issue for me. I do like to have some backups on the sd card though...

Battery pulls?!!!! I haven't had to do one of those since blackberry days! I love the Samsung specs but can't break my loyalties to my Moto x. The predecessor razr seems to be the way for me. Yea yea locked boot n no removable battery but im at the point where who cares? Really? The phone is perfect and ill take some bloat. Doesn't bother me. Personally love the simplicity of the ios & customization of android. RAZR wins for me.

The removable SD card its another thing I keep wondering about. I know 32 GB seems like a lot, but I also reminder when 4, 8, & 16 GB were "more storage than I can ever use". The Razr can go up to a 32 GB SD card out of the box, giving a little less than 48 GB total.

But, if ICS allows you to use external drives, or plug in a memory stick into the side of the Gnex, that becomes more of a wash too. Granted, an external stick isn't the most elegant solution, but it does solve the problem.

Either way, I'm getting an external battery pack. I've gone the battery swap route enough to know I dont like the down time or losing my place in a movie.

Since Verizon won't bring 4G LTE to Yadkinville, NC until later in 2012 (or perhaps early 2013), I'm sticking with my DX. I'll get to watch things develop some more and simply wait for stronger processors, battery life, and storage.

I took my DX for a swim in August, and having quickly saved my SD card, it was a life saver in getting everything back up running immediately once I had my replacement. I love the SGN, but hate that it doesn't have an SD card now.

The HTC Vigor looks great, but I suspect I'll need to have it plugged into the wall/car charger most of the time, and being that I get stuck in all day meetings a lot, I'm going to bet it's unfortunately not a viable option for me.

If I had to pick, I'd wait to watch how good/bad the battery life is for the Rezound (whenever they finally release it), and am betting that I'd have to lean toward the RAZR because of its stronger battery.

I haven't had any real problems with my Droid X, but I'm interested in the Galaxy Nexus because of ICS. While it's not official yet, I doubt the X is getting ICS.

HTC Edge may be the first quad-core smartphone to market - Engadget

Color us skeptical on this one, but rumors are coming down the pipeline about an HTC phone called the Edge. It's supposedly going to be the first Tegra 3-powered smartphone. According to Pocketnow, the device will supposedly offer a quad-core 1.5GHz CPU, 4.7-inch 720p HD display, 1GB of RAM, an 8MP rear camera with f/2.2 lens and Beats Audio. Curiously, no LTE capability was mentioned specifically, though 21Mbps HSPA+ appears to be good to go, and there's a slight possibility of Sense 4.0 being included -- which given its proposed launch window of late Q1 / early Q2 2012, wouldn't be a huge surprise.

Definitely waiting for March. I'm not a huge fan of HTC, but if they've got one in the pipeline, there will be others...

i'm keeping mine until :

a. it breaks
b. the extended battery tanks
c. i become eligible for some kind of kickass discount on a phone that is better.

most of the new phones i'm seeing have the 4g battery problem and / or a battery that you can't replace.

my only gripe with the x is that the camera could be better, but even that's pretty good.

all in all, the best phone i've ever had, and i've only had it a year.

I've had mine since launch day, and loved up until a month or so ago when the download installed the upgrade - the one with the new ui for texting, etc. Since then it has been a slow, laggy, buggy POS that makes me want to throw it out the window. Anyone else having similar issues? Or know what I can fix on mine to make it run as fast as it did before the upgrade?

Nexus it is for me. I got my DX in Oct. of 2010 after dealing with the eris. anyways, I just found out that i was given an early upgrade. With such a well supported platform like the Nexus, i think i will be good to go for a while. The original nexus, after all, is still being updated at least by developers almost two years after its release. I just want something that i can have the freedom to choose what i want to do with and not be restricted in any way.

My DX is still running strong. Yeah, she's a little laggy once in a while, but it's nothing a reboot after being on for 8 days won't cure. Yes, I'm looking at the 3 phones coming to Verizon this month. Not sure if I'll get one of those or wait for the quad cores in Q1 2012. That's the good thing about my DX. She's still going strong after 1.5 years so I'm not in a rush to upgrade.

But if something sexy catches my eye, what can I do, I'm a guy!

Well I just jumped over to the Droid RAZR and am loving it so far! The only thing I miss so far about the X is the vibrate mode. RAZR vibrate is a joke....probably too thin to produce a good buzz, but i'm sure I will adapt!

I hope the support for the RAZR is at least half as much as the DX got, see some/most of you there!

What happens if I upgrade to the SGN, and months later need to return to a phone w/o data. I assume the phone could be sold on CL/fleeBay, but what other bad things happen? This is why I'm not planning to upgrade.

Sorry to hear that!! as far as your plan, the contract is on the line itself, not the phone or data package. if you have or can get a feature/dumb phone activate it on your line and call VZW and cancel your data packages. not ETF or anything. If you really need to get out of your plan and have unlimited data, I have seen a few people paying others to take over plans with unlimited data. I'm not sure how that works, but could be an option to make a few $$$. Hope that helps and good luck, wish you and your wife the best through your trials.

I'm definitely waiting till the quad core phones come out in the first part of next year. With the specs of the DX, I haven't seen anything that's SO much better that I have to jump on it, even though I'm eligible for an early upgrade. We don't have LTE in our area yet, don't know when it will become available and the 8mp camera on the DX was way ahead of it's time, since a lot of phones have come out since with only 5mp. I like the selection of ROM's available now, gives more options for the DX, but since a lot of the other current specs aren't that different than my X (other than dual core) and LTE is currently useless to me, I'm drooling for a quad core. That'll be an upgrade for sure. Also, none of the current new phones have the mix of features I'd like. Would love the SGN since Google handles the upgrades but I like the ability to add extra storage etc. Don't want a battery that I can't change out myself b/c I've loved having an extra battery for my DX so on a long day with a lot of use, I can keep on using it.

The extra discount I'll have in March is nice but not the reason I'm waiting. Having said that, I won't turn it down either.

Sorry to hear about your wife's struggles....I know to many peeps that have been struck with severe MS. Its a mother #$@Ker! About on par with the c word.

I'm sure u will be able to sell the phone when/ if needed. The data plan goes with the line, not the phone. Call the big V for specifics. Wish you and your wife the best!

This post resonates a lot with me, because until my DX went tango uniform, I was very happy with it. I also agree there doesn't seem to be on paper a huge difference between the DX and the current offerings.

That said, I had to buy a new phone because of hardware issues. So, from what I've seen so far, in hand there is a pretty big difference. I know Quadrant isn't the best yardstick, but in this case I think it gives a fair idea of the performance difference. My DX on GB is rocking mid 1700s consistently. My Razr is rocking mid 2700s.

The current version of Blur or whatever is actually pretty nice--I uninstalled Go Launcher because the native Razr UI is smoother, and with the exception of the single row dock bar, does what I need anyway.

The camera is ridiculously fast, at least for taking a single shot, and the uncrippled HDMI out is really an "about time" thing. In terms DXers can understand, I can open the camera and take a shot before the DX camera app finishes launching.

I am with you on the battery--I'm not impressed with life so far, though the SmartActions throttling app let me set it overnight and not lose any juice. I've yet to "LTE" it, as I've been home all weekend and in an LTE dead zone. I'm still nervous about the sealed battery, and purchased an external battery...which I would have done with ANY new phone. I'm tired of batt swaps, losing wherever you were in a movie or whatever.

I guess whenever folks choose to jump the DX ship, there will be nothing but soft landing out there the way the phone world is moving!

Yea, I probably will too. I really want my next phone to be ICS. No buttons on the front, hard or capacitive. I really like the way Honeycomb buttons work on my ASUS TF1 so...

I was thinking that too. Good thing I like the Liberty ROM. I doubt there's going to be much support in the future.
