***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Not being able to remove the Google search box is highly annoying. I never use it and it's pointless for me. I guess I've just got my first reason to root.

I've also decided on a name for my GNex: "Jupiter's". If you don't get it, don't worry you probably don't want to. If you do get it then I hope the Nexus brings honor to this ludus, dominus.
How did you root your old Android devices to get rid of the search capacitave/hardware button?

I think the issue having that one on the homescreen forces a loss of space and sets an aesthetic.

If you have a row of hardware buttons, you have a row of hardware buttons, so the search button takes no space you can use anyway, and from that point of view 3 or 4 buttons doesn't matter.

The aesthetic you knew you were locked to by virtue of hardware.

First thing many of us did with our out-of-the-box Google search widget on the homescreen (or adjacent) was to get rid of it - because we had a hardware button anyway.

Call me cheap, but I use a wire hanger as a dock/mount at night. I just twisted it to my liking, lay my X on its side, plenty of room for the plug to plug in the bottom, and use a clock app, works the same!
Yeah, I'll call it: you're cheap
:p

Nope - that is thrifty and resourceful.

I'm sending you a virtual kiss for posting this - I LOVE IT!!!!!!

I'll buy that dock just to avoid the fate that of my OG Droid's USB port... it got all stretched out, like it was a W00-h00 that had given birth... and then it gave birth! to a little piece of port (the pins). Damn thing was so small, it disappeared under the couch. So, now I have to charge my batteries outside the phone... and all because of the weird pressure that the cable put on the port in cars and on tables and whatever.

I'm hoping those little dots that I see on the side of the phone in some of the screenshots have some charging capability. Anybody know?

I've seen it twice now that NFC is on the battery?!?

Is this true? Is the nfc chip on the battery?

Also, it seems samsung has taken down the pages for the sch-i515 battery.

According to what I have read it denotes that the antennae is built into the battery rather than the battery cover. The NFC chip won't be in or on the battery.

Agreed. And that cable will probably cost you $20 (unless it's Verizon branded; that would probably add a $40 "value".)

That's what we were finding when these puppies hit - while everyone was posting "not available" T-Mo was selling the MHL/HDMI adapter on the web for $20, the other carriers that had them were charging a premium.

Monoprice now has it for 14 Yankee clams. Add in a typical HDMI cable and in at $20 or less.

For only $11.90 each when QTY 50+ purchased - Micro USB to HDMI MHL Adapter - Black | MHL Adapters

Still higher than 3 to 5 bucks for a micro HDMI, but those were pricey when they first hit, too, just like MHL.

Anyway, if you need cables, you need Monoprice.

I'll be buying a dock as well. Except, it won't be from Verizon. I'll be sending Amazon my money for that.

I really wish I had a dock for my Inc. Its SUCH a headache searching for my cable in the dark and then gingerly setting it on nightstand in a way that doesn't over extend the cable and pull it out of the phone.

I'll eventually buy a dock, but for the time being, I will probably continue to use my OG droid on wifi around the house/as an alarm clock until the price goes down or a 3rd party one comes out that is cheaper.

I wonder if this means you need to specifically buy oem batteries that include the NFC antenna. Just something you should keep in mind if you're looking to get an additional battery. I know I am.

Although I appreciate the accessory leak, no dock for me. Ill stick to my usual light case, screen protector, and car charger combo. Actually, Im hoping that the MHL cable comes included in the box as it does with some other phones like the Samsung Infuse. Otherwise, I'll probably be buying that as well.

Although I have to admit, I like the idea of a nice silk pouch or bag for the phone. If I can find a nice one that will the fit the phone and fit nicely in my pocket, I may bypass the case, and quite possibly the screen protector.

Either way, I NEED THIS PHONE NOW!!
