I'm waiting for this update... if it doesn't happen, I might just root the phone for the WIFI hotspot.

What does that do? Is that similar to wifi calling?

WIFI calling is using your WIFI signal for calls. This feature has been disabled. Some Tmo news saying there will be a system update on 11/13 to activate WIFI calling in the phone.

WIFI Hotspot and Tethering is a different feature. You can make your phone as WIFI hotspot to share the data connection to a computer or a tablet. TMo did something to this phone. Once the feature is activated, the phone data connection and any web page on the device connected will be redirected to a Tmo upsell page to ask to sign up a $15 tethering plan.

This is a limitation Tmo put to this phone. There're web sites out there showing how to root the phone so this feature can be used again free without Tmo redirection.

I spoke to a guy last night at TMo service and the update is coming but they are still testing it. No ETA though.

reminds me of the time tmobile sent a free text message to all of the 1st generation mytouch 3g slide users who were told about the froyo 2.2 OTA update being pushed in November and then in reality getting the update 8 months later! There were SO many posts on tmobile's forums about when it was supposed to be pushed...only like 2% of the owners actually got it on time!
