***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

No one here seems to be interpreting the "Corporate reasons" as meaning "corporate reasons for not being transparent about launch plans and timeline for this phone" and that Steven is saying the source confirmed it's launching Thursday in a silent and sudden unadvertised fashion. The corporate reasons are related to why this is being handled so oddly rather than a normal hard launch with lots of advertising like the first two.

I'm too much of a pessimist to think that way. :D

That would be awesome, but I think the take home message is "sometime by mid-December". It could be anytime before then, but it certainly looks like they have identified an issue and have no firm ETA for a fix, so they cannot give a firm release date. Hopefully they address the issue ASAP so we can get our phones!

The Source said:
I signed in to send you a quick message and saw that you are already asking about it. I haven't been checking out the thread in some time since (**********) been really, really busy.

There might be a problem with the 17th. I haven't heard anything official, and I'm even more out of the loop now that (************) , but I'm hearing that there are problems with possible delays into early to mid December. Nothing definite. But it has nothing to do with hardware issues. I've been told that it doesn't have anything to do with software issues either. If it was they would just release it early and do OTA updates like with the Bionic. Seems like it's more a "corporate" decision than anything else.

RAZR isn't an option in my opinion, but the Rezound is a great phone with a beautiful screen, in case people want to take advantage of the extended holiday return period while they wait for the Galaxy Nexus. Just be sure not to drop it, ha.

Sorry I couldn't bring you better news.

I was to the store and totally agree with The Source about the Razr for three reasons:

1) Sound quality
2) Screen resolution- screen text is crisper
3) Size- If feels smaller and narrower, easier to grip. There is more border around the Razr so it is wider and because it's thinner, it feels awkward in my hand.

I was surprised, but I preferred the Rezound to the Razor.

I'm more concerned about damaging the phone while I have it. My wife accidentally dunked her Bionic in a little bit of water, and now the camera lens is fogged up and the ear speaker is a little jacked up. Anyone ever had any good luck getting warranty work/replacement if the moisture sensor is tripped?

If you have TEC coverage with Verizon, water damage is not an issue - it's covered. I've used it with my Dinc, and I was completely honest and told them exactly what happened to it.

I understand the angst and displeasure with the lack of a release date. However, I would personally prefer that they take the time to get the phone right instead of releasing it half-assed and forcing me to deal with additional bugs, waiting for fixes to be rolled out, etc. I have had my Dinc since it came out, an extra couple of weeks is not going to break me. My birthday is 12/16, if I can get a GNex in my grubby hands by then, I should be able to avoid having a stroke without too much effort.

I agree that they should get the phone right, but some kind of information and transparency at this point would go a long ways.

How many Rezound and RAZR returns are they going to experience because of their non-communication?

Thanks Steven. So best case scenario we are looking at 2 more weeks, possibly even more. If it's not a technical issue (neither software nor hardware), it sounds like Verizon is jerking our chain and probably the crappy sales figures of the RAZR (and Rezound?) have forced them to delay the Nexus release so they can sell more of the RAZR/Rezound phones and try to hit their target volume numbers for these phones.

For those getting the idea that ICS will be on older phones before the Galaxy Nexus comes out, you might want to take a step back. Cyanogen tweeted to check back on CM9 in 2 months. We might get some early early alphas but nothing stable. Also with RAZR's locked bootloader, you wont see ICS until Motorola does an update or a bootloader hack comes out.

okay i went to my local verizon store and handled the razr. overall i think its a pretty nice phone. didn't run hot like some other reports had stated on here. the store didn't even have the rezound on display yet.

however, one of the sales reps let me handle his personal rezound and it was pretty nice. a little thick but a nice screen.

another customer was standing next to me when i was handling the rezound and we started talking about the nexus. the sales rep who owned the rezound said he had been hearing the 18th is the date for the nexus. he said he was expecting to get the phones in any day. he said at latest it would be a black friday release in his opinion if not the 18th which is the rumor there.

take it for what its worth but i fully believe the launch is imminent!!

Why do we trust Steven's source. Wasn't it 2 days ago that they "confirmed" the 17th? I feel like they are just as in the know as any of us. Maybe they are basing their knowledge off of P3. Its the same information....

I trust no one, but it's not looking good for a Thursday release. Verizon should at least prepare us by Tuesday for a Thursday release for such a big phone...maybe....i dont know...im going to cry

I dont know that they confirmed it. If I remember correctly it was that they hadnt heard anything different yet. It is just nice to have some inside info that adds a little credence to some of the rumors. Things change, so some of the info is going to as well. We(verizon customers) should all know this by now.

This is completely dis-heartening and ruined my hopeful Tuesday... :(

This is exactly what happened with the Dinc and the TB. Same posts, same vitriol, same everything. I bet it's even the same people. Don't we ever learn?

I'm still in these types of threads, just like I was for the Eris 2.0 debacle. I just try to remember that it will all work out in the end. :D

They can win. How about they come out and tell everyone honestly what going on. Even if it's something along the lines of:

"We are currently experiencing issues with the Galaxy Nexus during testing. We aim to get this resolved within the next X days, we will update you on the X of November."

There we go, wasn't so hard was it. People understand there can be issues with phone releases, just man up, tell everyone what the issue is, and you'll have a much happier customer base.

They could do that, yes. The problem is that while we think about those types of statements as geeks and phone enthusiasts they think about them as a corporation. Making a statement like that for a corporation can have bad side effects. They come out and say we are having a problem and the problem is the only thing that gets blasted over the web. Then non-geeks and non-phone enthusiasts get wind of it and avoid the phone. Now they have a phone that people are ignoring because of a perceived problem. Then they don't look to carry this type of phone next time around because the number crunchers show that it had really poor sales compared to other phones released at the same time.

As I said, it really is a no win for them right now. Nothing that they can do will make everyone happy and as a company they do want to make everyone happy.

I have a couple of pugs coach, and I find it funny that you are holding your pug, because mine follows me everywhere, and nobody else in the house. I am looking forward to being able to take some great pics of them both with my new Nexus.... sigh....

That's funny...this pug is actually attached to my wife more than me....but he follows me around too. I had never had one until him, and I LOVE THEM!!!!!! They are great dogs for kids...he is actually very good with the baby....he'll keep his distance from her, yet roughhouse with my 4 year old.
Hopefully I will be taking some pics with a Tmo Nexus before the end of the year!!!! I know it's not very likely, but one can always hope. I hope the event Tmo is having tomorrow will at least mention some news about the Tmo Nexus, even though I know it is a google music event. Here's to hoping!!!

Ah, so we did interpret you correctly :(

Well... Now I wait until the 21st, and if there's no official word from Verizon by then, I cave. If on the 22nd, we're still in the same boat as we are now, I'm getting a Rezound.

Paying the restocking fee isn't an option for me, because I have to go through my company to get my phone. I'll get a Rezound and I'll force myself to like it.

Sigh.

Not sure if this has been posted or not, and i understand that we don't like VZW chats on here, but i've been online chating with a CSR for quite a bit now and we got to talking about the holiday return policy, she checked with all of her upper managment and actually has tickets in to the VZW web developers to correct the dates on the holiday return policy. Apparently anything purchased between the 15th of Nov. and the 28th of Dec can be returned by the 15th of Jan. not the 9th of Jan. I'm not sure exactly how i can prove it below is the copy/paste of the chat and if you need a screenshot let me know, i kept the window open in case:

Steven: I'm currently looking for a new phone and i have a strong interest in a phone that isn't released on verizon yet, i was thinking that in the meantime i may want to take a look at the htc Rezound and see how i like it and when the other phone comes out i can see if i would like to keep the Rezound or return it for that phone(the galaxy nexus).

Alicia: Yes if it is released within 14 days of your purchase you can return and exchange.

Steven: well i've actually become aware that as of today there is a new temporary return policy for the holidy season stating that purchases made from today (15th) until december 28th i believe can be returned up until the 9th of january.
Alicia: Correct.

Steven: so it wouldn't be 14 days then would it? it would be up until the 9th of january correct?

Alicia: No it would not. It would be applicable until the 15th

Steven: 15th of..
Alicia: January

Alicia: Not the 9th

Steven: well i'm looking at the return policy on your website and it states: "Purchases (excluding tablets and accessories) made between November 15 and December 28, 2011 may be returned or exchanged through January 9, 2012"

Alicia: Can you send me the link to where you see the 9th?

Steven: absolutely here it is, its in the first section: Return Policy - Verizon Wireless

Alicia: Thank you.

Alicia: Do you mind giving me a moment to check with my supervisor?

Steven: absolutely, take your time :)

Alicia: Thanks.

Alicia: Thank you for waiting. You have until 1/15/12 to return.

Steven: that makes me nervous though since the website states the 9th. either way whether the 9th or the 15th of January thats fine.

Alicia: Yes. I understand how you feel. I'm placing a ticket in for it now.

Alicia: Thank you for pointing out the site issue.

There we go, wasn't so hard was it. People understand there can be issues with phone releases, just man up, tell everyone what the issue is, and you'll have a much happier customer base.

But why would they do that for a phone for which they haven't formally announced a date? The only reason for all this turmoil is because we are a bunch of impatient snoopers, latching maniacally onto every rumor and innuendo. If they announced a release date, then realized it wasn't going to hold up, then of course they'd owe us an explanation. IMO they don't owe us anything in response to our conjecture and wishful thinking. They just release the RAZR and Rezound, and though those might not be the phone we in here want, to the ignorant masses out there to which Verizon rightfully caters, they are the latest and greatest. When have you ever seen 3 phones of this caliber release within days of each other?

If this button can hold on, so can you.

Give me my phone now and if there is something wrong, FIX IT WITH AN OTA! Thats what they are for!

Steve said the source said there is no software or hardware issue. It's a "corporate" decision. My only guess is they are purposely holding the release to allow RAZR/Rezound sales to happen. They are already eating their own lunch with 2 major phone releases, so they probably decided to push the SGN for sales reasons.

Yes, because this strategy worked so well with the DINC Gingerbread release!

I can't feel bad for Verizon when they don't tell anybody what it going on. All they need to say is "A few small issues came up on the Nexus during testing, we are currently remedying the problems. Our new tentative release date is (insert date here), we will make an announcement if anything changes."

That's all they had to do. Other companies do it. Does anybody think that the "fruit company" would let Verizon or any other carrier announce an iphone and then just go all cold war on everybody and pretend the phone doesn't exist for a month+?

I can't upgrade until Dec 8th so it doesn't make any difference to me unless the Nexus isn't out until that date but for all of your guys' sake I hope they get this thing going! I'd be too scared to buy the Rezound/Razr with the intentions of taking it back and getting something else. I did that before because a phone was out of stock and figured I'd just get something different in the mean time and what do you know...I dropped it and got some nice marks on it and no return for me :(

If this is the case, then everyone who gives in and buys one of the other two handsets are basically giving in to the child having a temper tantrum. Personally, I wish everyone who wanted the SGN would just stay strong, not buy one of the other phones, and send a message to Verizon. Otherwise, they get the positive reinforcement they need to justify their little game. If you genuinely want the Rezound or Razr, then that's different...but if you really want the SGN, there's no better way to let Verizon know that than to hold out. :)
