Root Which ROMs are Froyo .340 compatible?

Having SBF'd back to .340 Froyo, so that my daily repeating calendar alarms will actually work, I am wondering which ROMs that are still available can be used on .340 Froyo. It looks to me like what I am seeing in the Droid X ROM guide Sticky is all Gingerbread now.

Can someone point me to which ROMS were popular before the DX got GB?

imo and probably in many others here as well , Froyo in a whole is now obsolete. Even the Roms for them. But hey you're entitled to your own phone bud.

Thanks. I'm just curious to see what I can do with this thing. When I put Velocity ROM on my LG Ally it was like night and day. Made it into a really USABLE phone!

While researching this myself I ran across the post which leads to an explanation of what 2init is all about. That's some pretty cool stuff!

A little explanation is in order:

I got this DX handed down from my son on Oct 23rd, right before it got the Gingerbread OTA. We rooted it and things were working well. I saw the differences when the GB OTA came to the phone. I liked GB, but when it suddenly borked my calendar alarms I use every day to remember which pills to take and when, I had to do 'something'. They simply won't sound. I even deleted them all and rebuilt a whole new calendar. No dice. They still sounded just fine on my LG Ally, which is also still usable, so I have 2 phones until the contract rolls over in January on this DX.

I did a lot of research and uncovered what appears to be evidence that when Motorola pushed the GB OTA to the DX, they broke the calendar notification system. Tons of up to date discussion about that on the Motorola and Verizon forums. No fix in sight.

It seems to only affect daily repeating alarms that run for a long time, like mine do. If I could find a way to use GB and also make my alarms work I'd gladly go back to it in a heartbeat. But I could not find any other solution, short of sticking with Froyo. Once I did, the alarms have been sounding flawlessly every day. I guess most people probably don't use daily repeating alarms, so they don't know about it.

What worries me is when my new every 2 rolls over in the Spring, and I buy a new phone, will I still have the same problems on Gingerbread?

I really wish these programmers would test things like the calendar better. I've had these kinds of problems with calendars suddenly deciding not to sound alarms dating all the way back to my Palm OS days. Then it was Windows Mobile. Now Android. It seems NO ONE knows how to make a reliable calendar notification system for a handheld device.

So, running .340 Froyo on this DX is my desperation move that is working. But I was hoping I could spruce it up a bit with whatever fancy ROMS you guys were using on Froyo.

as trophy stated, its your phone you do with it as you wish, but just so you know, you wont see much help with that, or support or dev support, as we are all on GB now, most of us, like myself and trophy retain the knowledge of froyo to help and assist you with any problems you might face

Yes, I understand. As I mentioned, I am due for a new phone next year, so this is a short term thing. If I do like one of the Froyo ROMs I'll likely just stick with it. In fact, I never tried any other ROMs when I put Velocity on my Ally. I just stuck with it as it evolved. If trying to find a still-compatible Froyo ROM proves to be too much effort, I'll just leave it running stock Froyo as it is now.

This was sort of an experiment for me. I wanted to see if I could break my 'addiction' for having a QWERTY keypad. That would open up a lot more choices when I go phone shopping next time. So when my son got his new Bionic, he gave me his DX to play with. But since it is fully operational for a few more months, I didn't want to carry both it and my Ally, so I have been trying to rely solely on the DX. When the calendar went screwy, that was a real PITA. Missing pain meds makes for a really bad day.

I do still have the Ally to rely on for alarms, so I can afford to experiment with the DX if you think I can fix the calendar bug.

I was just reading about Apex when you replied. I did an advanced search for "Gingerbread alarm fix" on the All Things Root site, and the Apex ROM was one of the hits. But I am so far not seeing any mention of alarms.

Was the fix something that was featured or was it discussed somewhere? If I can find actual mention of it in one of the ROM threads that's where I'd like to start.

SBF .602 and try Vortex rom--I've had this phone for a year + and this rom makes me excited about my DX unlike any of the incarnations of .340, .595, .596 etc. Don't know about the calendar issue but, heck, if you're sbf'ing, try something current--if it seems laggy or twitchy, sbf with wipes for the cleanest install possible..It's weird, but this phone seems to act differently with each sbf... just my .02....

I really appreciate the suggestion. But if I can find some mention of a solution for the known calendar notification issue listed in one of the ROM threads, that's where I'd like to start. What happens when the alarms decide to fail is that they get very 'hit or miss'. Sometimes several in a row will sound, then miss one or more. Sometimes none will sound at all. I have 10 daily repeating alarms spanning a 12 hour period. So I pretty much have to go through a whole day each time I want to find out if they are deciding to work or not. It literally can take days to nail down whether I have an actually reliable solution. It gets frustrating quickly.

I used RSD Lite 4.8 when SBFing to .340, so have that currently installed. But I noticed in the ROM guides it says to install RSD Lite 5.4.4 (which I did not see anywhere while setting up the SBF to .340). Can I still use 4.8? It didn't want to work on Win7, but it worked just fine on WinXP. Or is 5.4.4 better somehow?

Thanks. Since I an rooted on the full .340 Froyo SBF, and I made a nandroid and TIBU backup (actually 2 sets already - I do that every Saturday) can I now just SBF to like .605 and then flash a ROM? And then if I wanted to go back to .340, just flash the nandroid I made of .340?

Did you do this from Froyo .340?

I am reading the nice guide [TUTORIAL]Simple Gingerbread .602 SBF and Root Process (Updated 9.9.11), and most of the steps sound familiar. They even built in the "if you are boot looping, here's what to do" section from the .340 guide as a standard step to take in the new tutorial. Sounds like good advice to me.

I have read since I did the SBF to .340 about how to make RSD Lite work on Win7x64. Damn its permissions crap. I didn't think to try to run it as administrator. I'll bet that's why it didn't work. Also, when I did it from WinXP there was a popup allowing me to 'stop blocking' RSD Lite. I never saw that in Win7x64. It likely just blocked it FOR me without even asking. What happened was the "Start" button stayed grayed out when I tried it on Win7x64.

Also, we ended up using Droid 3 Easy Root when we first rooted the DX. It was a little confusing trying to figure out which root tool to use, and my son was helping me. That's the one he found and he had it done while I stepped out of the room for a minute. So I used that again when I went back to .340 and it worked OK.

Do you use any alarm reminders that repeat every day? Those are the kind that give me problems. If I create any single instance alarms, those will always sound even when the repeating alarms fail.

The Vortex 2.9 link on the ROMS guide page seems broken. It goes to an error on the RootzWiki site. The 2.7 link is working.

I think I'll do that. But don't I have to upgrade to .602 or .605 first? Can you give me some guidance on what to do from my current state of rooted Froyo .340?
