Samsung Galaxy Nexus / Nexus Prime on Orange UK

I'm desperately hoping this phone is taken up by Orange. They've not taken on the Nexus One or the Nexus S directly and it'd be a disappointment to not take on the GNex. So any information anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

I rang up Orange today, and the woman I spoke to said the GNex was not on their system at all so far :(

I doubt they'll do it, but I have nothing to base that on. :p

A few of my mates have the Nexus S and they're on Orange, but most got theirs via Carphone Warehouse or bought outright.

I'm due an upgrade at the end of January so hopefully there'll be a few more handsets with ICS out by then (I do really like the look of the Galaxy Nexus though.)

Any special reason why you want Orange to take the phone on? I wanted to have a DHD on O2 (as I'd been a longstanding O2 customer) and, when I changed to the DHD, I was told that they (O2) didn't have (or have any plans to have) the model on their network.

I realise that I could have got a DHD on O2 by going through Carphone Warehouse (or similar), but I didn't want to go through someone like that, but go direct through a network provider... have you considered trying that?

I ended up going with Orange, as my wife is on Orange, so wasn't too bothered.

I've been with Orange for over 5 years now, and my contracts have gotten better and better due to loyalty. Their service is brilliant, and their Orange Care policy has a good price and is second to none IMO. To boot my girlfriend is on Orange and we have 'Magic Numbers' to each other. Moving to another network, I won't get anywhere near as much as I currently have with Orange. And I did think about going through Carphone Warehouse but I'd much rather go with Orange. I'll have to wait and see...

I'm a VIP customer of Orange. Spoke to their executive team today and drilled them on the Galaxy Nexus. Just to confirm, yes they will have it. In November (sometime in November).

My guy's keeping an eye on it. When it is I'll aim to post here ASAP!

Not due for a change any time soon, but am sure that there are plenty of people who are on here that would appreciate the news!! :D

Would this be such a great phone on orange? Does orange offer HSPA+? Would three be a better choice?

Customer service wise, Three are terrible. Along with plusnet, they are one of the few companies that I refuse to have anything to do with, my experiences with them were that bad.

Orange might be a bit slower at the moment, but they're about to start using T-Mobiles 3G/H signal and I believe T-Mobile share their signal with Three?

Could be wrong though and other folks experiences with 3 may be different of course. :)

I've read online that Orange and T-mobile won't be supporting the Galaxy Nexus, and have been told that by the upgrade team too. Surprising since I could get one on the Orange network via Carphone warehouse or Dial a phone etc. My upgrade is due so I'll sit tight for a few weeks and see what happens. Dying to know too if it will arrive as I do want my Ice Cream sandwich!

I believe three don't share tmobiles network - more like, tmobile and three share the same network which is operated by another company.

I know three support HSPA+, but struggling to find any evidence about Orange .

Also, in relation to orange and tmobile sharing their network, i am aware that they are sharing their 3G network, but would HSPA+ count as 4G? and as such fall outside this partnership.

I am aware of three poor customer service, although orange aren't great either, but is it worth getting it on orange if it cant access a hspa+ network?

Finally, as orange are saying they aren't stocking the phone, is this a sign that orange doesn't support HSPA+?

There's a little info on the sharing thing here. If that is to be believed it looks as though 3/TMob don't share the network, but they are part of a consortium that maintain the network (MBNL)?

The Atrix is 4G and Orange stocked that so I don't think that can be classed as sign that they're not supporting HSPA+

Might be worth giving them a call though, get a definitive answer.

hi, i've talked to orange and they say they currently don't support HSPA+ but do plan to upgrade the network, but have no time-frame. Well not one they can tell me.

H does me for the moment anyway (more is always nice though). It's a shame they couldn't give a proper time frame.

Thanks for checking. :)

hi guys - just registered with the forum as i am looking for some more info on whether orange are officially stocking the nexus directly from their stores / website?

from what i have found so far - its looking like they are not?

but there is a post above that says 'I'm a VIP customer of Orange. Spoke to their executive team today and drilled them on the Galaxy Nexus. Just to confirm, yes they will have it. In November (sometime in November).'

when other posts say they wont get it.

i rang up orange on 150 but they didnt have a clue - same as the shops which i rang, and the phone wasnt 'on their list' - pretty useless information giving skills tbh.

does anyone have anymore info on this?

thanks!!! :)

Welcome to the forums!

Can't really tell I'm afraid... I've seen conflicting info (as you have said)... does it have to be Orange that you go with or would you go with Orange through Carphone Warehouse (as they usually do any phone on any network)?

This sounds EXACTLY like when I wanted the Desire HD on O2... ended up leaving (after being a long time customer with O2), as I didn't want to go through Carphone Warehouse.

thing is i can get a 25% perks discount if i go into an orange shop and take the phone on contract there.

do any other phone supplies who do the nexus, or even any phone shops - do a similar discount?

the perks discount is for people who work for universities, nhs, gov't etc.

My wife works for the NHS and she gets a discount... I even get it because she works for the NHS - guess that there really are perks to being married!! :D Thought I'd mention that, as you may be able to get the discount for your other half/any kids you have.

Worth checking with the carriers - guessing you're in the UK... why not pop in to a few stores over the weekend... you know... hit up people like O2, T-Mobile, etc? Be worth knowing if they do it too!!

EDIT - don't go out of your way... only meant check if you're passing a shop... didn't mean to sound too cheeky!!

Orange will most definitely be supporting the Nexus. I've been on the phone almost every day with them.
The news is this....
They are making sure that the phone is compatible with their network prior to releasing it. Hopefully this doesn't mean that they are putting their usual rubbish software and themes on it.
To be honest, I'm thinking of upgrading to a different phone (maybe the Lumia with the free XBox) and then immediately selling both to help fund buying the Nexus from Amazon or somewhere like that.
I'd rather have a proper untouched Nexus than a Nexus with a silly orange logo on it. The funny thing is, one of the guys I spoke to at Orange said the Nexus wasn't as good as the Sensation (the first one). I actually laughed at him down the phone.

ah good this is great news - can get the perks discount in an orange shop... when it reaches one eventually.

only downside is the mention of it being polluted with orange software etc etc - would this not be the case for any carrier who does the nexus - or is the whole point of the ICS that its meant to be untouched by any extra carrier baggage?
