***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Something posted on XDA, apparantly via Amazon UK, that may explain the delays:

The suggestion is that Google have made last-minute revisions.... take it for what its worth. The original post can be found here.

Fwiw, the local Phones4U store here still expects to be selling the GN tomorrow, albeit to new contract or upgrading customers only, despite having no stock to hand as of 14.30hrs today. The manager's face was a picture when I suggested that he contact his head office about the "Oxford St only" rumour. :D

Interesting -- thanks for the update Slug.

So I guess people will be seeing OTAs upon powering up some phones in the UK tomorrow.

ok, I've decided that on the day of GNex launch (whenever that may be) I'm buying everyone on my floor in my office ice cream sandwiches to celebrate/promote the phone. There MIGHT be 1 other person on my floor of 80 people that know what I'll be celebrating but that's the point of this....enlighten others of what is upon us.

Agree and furthermore... we better enjoy a Nexus phone on VZW now, because I doubt that Google would be stupid enough to "partner" with them again. And with both ATT and Sprint getting LTE next year... even more the reason to tell them to kiss off.
I highly doubt the situation is as simple as you make it. There are rumors that this has been pushed back from parts delays (Samsung), OS delays (Google) and phone scheduling (Verizon). All rumor, but people tend to believe the rumors they want and dismiss the others. I might postulate that the release date may not be fully in Verizon's hands at all. Who knows.

But I assure you, this sort of pushed back release schedule happens all the time in the industry. Rarely are fingers pointed and bad blood developed. You've heard the term before, It's business, nothing personal. That is true.

You honestly believe that Google will not want to work with the largest carrier in the US in the future over spite? Not going to happen, even if this is all Verizon's fault. (Which I also don't fully believe.)

Interestingly, the AOSP was already at 4.01 when they started the upload the other day.

I'm pretty used to release-day updates, don't know about you cats - just don't recall from the other Verizon launches or stuff overseas - not something I'd notice while modding.

when i went to sleep last night, this thread had 612 pages. when i got up to read it this morning, it had 620. by the time i caught up, it had 622. simply amazing, although still pretty depressing that we have no real news. at least VZ's rent-a-razr program is keeping me satisfied for now, having a new phone to play with is always fun! here's hoping we actually do see the nexus before Jan 9th though, i really don't want to keep this thing for 2 years. :p

I hate to be the buzz kill... but I think that the marketing calendar that we saw before showing the post-Thanksgiving timeline may become the new reality.. . . . .

Highly possible. But in the grand scheme of things, who cares, right? It's only about a week away. And then when more rumors start coming out about mid-December, we'll be lulled into accepting that too, because hey, it's only 2 more weeks! And when it gets pushed into early January, it's only 2 more weeks!!!!

Looking at the good side:

The longer we wait, the more chance we have of beating out the Dinc thread as being the #1 EPIC macro-thread in AF! And at the rate we're going - 1,000 posts a DAY - we'll beat it out by the end of the month! :D

Looking at the bad side:

I took my fully charged, Beloved Droid off the charger at 7:15 this morning and listened to music on bluetooth. No surfing, no calls. It lost 50% of its battery in just TWO HOURS!

This Nexus thingy had better come, and it had better come soon.

EDIT: Hi, Solid! Wow, long time no see since the gTablet forum! Welcome to the madness!

Or have you been here all along and I just didn't see you hiding in plain sight? :p

The longer this drags out, the more money I can put aside for it.

Thats what I have been doing and have more than enough cash for it and accessories but I have the Grandfathered unlimited data so I need to stay in contract to insure it for 2 more years I guess? Correct?

If I buy it cash and let my contract expire my unlimited data will continue but be open to any changes they make down the line as far as data yes?

I get kind of dyslexic in this area.

unlimited data lasts as long as you continue to pay for a data plan. cancel your data package and you will never get it back. although the double data deal they are running right now is a decent alternative.

That's awesome. I would do that but I don't like most of the people here enough to be nice like that.
Although at least 3 of them would know why it was ice cream sandwiches.

Hmmm - sounds like the droid is starting to kick back at knowing it will be replaced soon.

Ok, whatever you do, don't write something that will /. our servers or we all lose, mkay. ;)

Yeah! Cause then BB will be very sad.

So I guess people will be seeing OTAs upon powering up some phones in the UK tomorrow.

This is why I think it has nothing to do with U.S. delays. If it was only software related, they'd just do an OTA upon boot up. There's no reason to delay it.

I highly doubt the situation is as simple as you make it. There are rumors that this has been pushed back from parts delays (Samsung), OS delays (Google) and phone scheduling (Verizon). All rumor, but people tend to believe the rumors they want and dismiss the others.. . . .

I haven't heard anything about parts delays, particularly 4G chip delays, which would affect the US launch. The fact that UK isn't being delayed proves that Google and Samsung kept up their end of the deal. BMX, a Google employee (and at a good position, based on him being sent by his company to the UK for the launch), has said that they met their end of the bargain on time.

OS delays could be fixed OTA immediately upon turning on the phone at the store.

Phone scheduling. This would indicate Verizon's culpability. I can only assume that device deals are done way in advance. Why they decided to release 3 huge deals within weeks of each other, and botching it up in the process, is beyond me.

Just because a corporation is huge, it doesn't mean that the string pullers aren't idiots. And it doesn't mean that they're not total a-holes. In fact, most huge corporate string pullers are total a-holes. They almost have to be.

And on top of that we will have the fastest internet of any other carrier in the US with unlimited data and the beast phone from hell!

I feel so lucky :D

No,
My understanding is your contract continues, just on a month-to-month basis.

And FWIW, Verizon can change the terms of anyones contract, at any time. Those are the TOS letters you get in the mail, usually changing one insignifigant contract item. Inaction on your part indicates acceptance. But it also gives you the right to cancel you contract with Verizon, too. (with no ETF).

Witness all the people on Sprint who are now getting charged for tethering, whether in contract or not.

If you read my whole post, you would have seen that the reason I fault Google and Samsung is because they haven't made the prior Nexus phones commercial successes in the past, they've allowed them to be things for primarily geeks and enthusiasts with low sales numbers. This has given them little to no leverage with the carriers, so unlike Apple they can't launch the phone when they want, they have to wait for the carriers to determine that.

Regardless of past success of a device LTE/700mhz devices were SUPPOSED to be allowed to be launched independent of the carrier with open configs. The only reason I figure Google is cooperating with Verizon on selling this device is they want this one to be a commercial success. Most of us rely on carrier subsidies as a means of getting the most value out of our plans. Until Verizon offers no contract less costly phone plan option intended for peeps who want to buy device at full price and not have to rely on subsidies to get value out of a plan Google is forced to let VZW release their device if they want the VZW option to be any sort of success.

This very import aspect of the way these things work is why I put ALL blame on VZW. There is zero reason I shouldn't be able to pay a nice bit less on my monthly plan, but not be entitled to subsidized prices or have to worry about being tied to a contract to get the best overall deal on my service and device costs. In my opinion VZW and ALL carriers control device sales TOO MUCH, PERIOD. They claim they aren't interested in selling devices, but until they offer me a WELL discounted plan with no subsidy option or device support I'm not buying it. I can get device support from device manufacturer and network support ONLY from VZW if'n they really don't want to sell and support phones. I would actually prefer things that way.

I would give up all my posts, all my thanks, and see everyone here banned for life if it meant that the SGN could be released today.

Hmmm. Maybe that's why I'll never be a Guide.

Hahaha! :D
