Based on the latest Gingerbread source (2.3.7). There's an awesome new Ring lockscreen option that is somewhat similar to the honeycomb lockscreen.

Get it here:

Don't forget to add the latest Google Apps:

Kernel Plug:
In my experience CM plays very, very nicely with the deprimed_test kernel from this thread:

Ice Cream Sandwich Theme:
Here's a really thorough, detailed ICS theme. Apply using the Theme Chooser app.:

UPDATE 12/4/2011: CyanogenMod has officially dropped support for the Droid. I know most of us won't be using this device much longer since many of us OG Droid users will be upgrading soon. I would like to note here for those hanging on the the OG Droid that from personal experience the Droid build of the CM7 ROM peaked at the nightly build from Halloween 10-31-2011 with the file name of cm_sholes_full-237.zip . Every nightly build following that had a broken Torch. This is the version of CM7 I would recommend above all others. I still recommend the deprimed kernel as well.

You can find cm_sholes_full-237.zip here:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nightly&device=sholes

Updated from 7.0.1 to 7.1 and my OG Droid is running smooth. Actually was beating out the one with all the memory tweaks from the Supercharger script.
The only complaint is a recent nightly update, from 10/8 I believe, ran Netflix without any video/audio timing issues, but with 7.1, the video seems to fall behind a touch, but still testing.

Still...the performance was nice (we'll see if it gets a bit stuck/slower a month or two down the road with multiple install and uninstall of apps).

I am having this problem with several ROMS I just tried.
Storyline.... in case that helps.
I was running Droid Concepts 11, and liked it a lot. Froyo seems to work better on my phone overall. But my phone started acting really weird. So I decided to wipe and try DC12. Well it went fine except that at first boot it did not ask me anything about email address or password. I tried to do it manualy and it goes out and tries and says "can't connect to server"
I had put several ROMS on the SDCARD just in case. I tried Buggless Beast, and when it loads, it has the little android you normally get, and takes you thru the account setup, and all works fine, all syncs fine too. BUT IT IS SLOW!!! even running at 1000Mhz So I did not really want to keep it.
Then I tried This Rom CM 7.1 Having the same problem, it does not ask about account setup at first boot, and the manual account setup does the same thing. "Cant connect to server" I think I like this ROM, it seems much snappier than BB, and I did not even have Set CPU on it yet.

I am not totally stuck, I have several older Froyo Roms that I know work.. so I will get by. Buy if someone knows why this is happening, It would really help out.
Thanks
Ken

Something to test...
Make sure you are wiping all caches before installing the ROM.
Then, once you have installed CM 7.1, go into the phone section of it and do the activation call for your carrire. For Verizon, call *228 and choose option 1.
Once it has activated/programmed your phone, try to go through the manual setup again.

I'd like to know if that helps - I'm hoping if you cannot connect to the server, this will help allow the phone to connect in case it is getting confused and using the ROM's default phone info.

Thanks.. tried calling the number, said it programmed the phone, still did not work. Same as before. I manually enter my email and password, it goes out and checks, and comes back \myusername and the sever as gmail.com
I click next and it says it cant communicate with the server.
I tried putting the wrong password and it still goes out and checks the same amount of time elapses.

Not sure whats going on here, but it is annoying. CM Looked pretty cool, But none of the Roms work except bugless beast.. and it asks for your info when the phone first boots up, that works fine and it all sync's correctly. Bugless beast was just really slow on my phone.

I got a copy of Liquid Frozen Yogurt 1.95 and it also asks for info at first bootup. All works well, and it is fast too.
I always liked this ROM, only went to others to try them. Now thinking of staying with LFY unless I can figure what is causing this issue. Then I will try Droid Concepts again.. I did like that one too... But my very un-scientific feeling is the LFY is even faster.

Thanks for the help.. if anyone has any other ideas, let me know

The ability to sync with a google account is provided by a google app. The CM base ROM does not come with google apps (you are probably also missing the market, among others). Go to the CM wiki and you can find a download link for a google apps package. Install the package the same way you installed the ROM...its also available through ROM Manager.
I'm not sure which version is available through the mirror on the wiki, but the package on ROM Manager is 2.3.5.

Thanks I will try that.. Not tonight though.. Gotta get up early.

I was baffled as to what your problem was, but yeah, you have to flash Google Apps along with CM7 to get the full Google Experience. This is a bit of an annoyance but I believe Google forced their hand on this one.

The latest Google Apps packages for CM can always be found here:

Latest Version/Google Apps - CyanogenMod Wiki

If you install CM7 via ROM Manager you will be given the option to install the Google Apps along with the ROM.

Yeah, I was baffled too. never ran into this before... All the ROMS I had ever installed took you through it on initial boot up.

Thanks for all the help guys, I will try this tomorrow. Gotta sleep now.

Thanks again.
Ken

I should've linked to the CM Google Apps in the first place. I updated the OP of this thread with that link. Coming from other ROMS you can't be expected to know that CM doesn't bundle the Google stuff with their ROMs.

Well, I think your not the only one, Cause Droid Concepts did the same thing. I don't remember 11 doing it when I loaded that a few months ago, But when I tried to upgrade to 12 it did, I re downloaded 11 and tried that and it did it too. Oh well.. looking forward to trying CM.. It looked really cool and seemed pretty snappy too.
Thanks again for all the help.

I updated the OP to note that CM has dropped support for the Droid so we will never see an official build of CM9 and presumably no more CM7 updates either. It's not all that surprising, but I wanted to note that for me the latest and greatest stable build of CM7 on the Droid was the nightly from 10-31-2011 with the file name cm_sholes_full-237.zip. Builds after that had a broken Torch.

Thanks for the update... I tried to get it to run as suggested, loaded the ROM then the google apps, and I still did not work.. same result.

Tried Droid Concepts, again, after realizing that they too put the google apps separate... that worked fine and I am happy to have it working well.

I am probably going to upgrade to a Moto RAZR soon anyway. Our contract is up late Feb and we will be able to lock in unlimited data at that time, so thats the best time to get the new phone.

I gotta say my Droid has been flawless in the last 2 years, still charges and hold charge on original battery, and I never had the headphone jack problem either. Awesome phone. The RAZR looks like it's built strongly too, and being the road warrier that I am.. a sturdy phone is very important too, me. Especially the water resistance.

Thanks Again for all the help.

The cm_sholes_full-237.zip file doesn't seem to exist on the cyanogenmod mirror network anymore. Would someone who still has the file please upload it somewhere? Thanks!

This, again, please!

Also, anyone else have issues with the Phone app Force closeing when you get a call?

Edit - After several re-boots, the phone app force closing issue seems to have solved its self. Not having any current issues. Phone is running fast and smooth, better battery life than DC10 (froyo) that I was using before... Hopefully none of the gingerbread gremlins will pop their ugly heads up.
