***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I was planning to use the OTG to watch and transfer videos, but reports are not looking good on that front. I just want more than 256 MB of space for apps... G+ and Maps takes 5% of space each...
Sorry, I missed this one. Can you elaborate more? Is this a fear you have about the Nexus? I thought the whole point of Google's not including an SD card slot was so that they could implement a unified memory that everything would go into. Where did you see that there would only be 256MB of app space? Also, where did you see that OTG wouldn't be supported?

I got my Dinc on release date, so I imagine I'm in the same situation as a lot of other people - signed a 2 year contract, am eligible for early upgrade now, and eligible for an additional $50 "loyalty discount" on 12/28. Now, I've read that they'd be willing to push up loyalty discount by a month, no more, and not necessarily for every phone. My daughter's phone has a cracked screen, and she could have my Dinc when I get the Nexus. I called Verizon and asked about moving up the loyalty discount (we've been with Verizon phones for maybe 10 years, have TWO family plans with 8 lines - that's loyal!). The rep I spoke to last week said no, but I would imagine my prospects would get brighter after the Nov 28. Now, I was willing to forgo the $50 to get it right away (anticipating release this week), but as the 28th gets closer, maybe it'd be worth the wait. Has anyone else around here called to ask about pushing up their loyalty discounts? Any indication it's be useable on a Nexus?

What is the process of "renting" and how long do you have before needing to trade it back in? Is there a restocking fee, if I were to get the ReZound/Razr and trade it in for the Nex, if it does come out on the 8th?

I hate all this plotting, and speculation...

VZW has extended their return policy for phones purchased after 11/15 allowing you until 1/15/12 to return it. So everyone is calling it "renting" when you are actually purchasing the phone and returning it when the nexus comes out. The $35 restocking fee would have to be paid. It also seems to be hit or miss as the whether in store sales people have heard about the extension...

I had sent some emails to Verizon when everyone was talking about doing so and received this response. It sounds like a normal corporate response but figured I would share it with you anyway.
"Dear #####,

Thanks for your e mail to so many members of our executive staff.

I understand your concerns surrounding the release of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and appreciate your wanting to know a firm release date for the device.

Unfortunately, until a device passes our testing to meet the requirements for our network and our customer experience with the device, we cannot determine the exact release date.

While we can anticipate a release of devices, our concern is that if we were to announce a release date in advance and the manufacturer cannot meet that date for production or development reasons, we ultimately end up creating a negative customer experience, which is not something that we would like to do.

I wish that I could provide you with a specific date for release however, what I can tell you is that a release will be announced when the device is ready for market and we are sure that the customer experience with the device is one that is positive.

Knowing that you are anticipating bringing your business to Verizon Wireless, I would rather you have a positive experience with the transition and being delayed than regretting your decision to switch carriers based on a device being released prematurely.

I hope that this helps you to understand our practice and you continue to be patient for the release of the device you are awaiting.

Thank you for considering Verizon Wireless and hope that you do decide to do business with us in the future.

Steve Schwed
Executive Relations Supervisor"

I'm surprised that this hasn't received more attention. It sounds like someone relatively high up on the VZW food chain is telling Chris (and now us) that they don't know what the release date will be because the phone isn't ready, at least from their perspective, and they don't want to risk giving us a date and then failing to meet it for whatever reason.

Unfortunately, this gives us nothing in terms of being able to estimate the release date. Their testing could (and probably) is complete, and is just waiting for the right executive at VZW to sign off on it; or the testing may still be in progress as they work through whatever issues have cropped up.

I think the biggest takeaway here, assuming the e-mail above is valid (no offense intended to to Chris), is that VZW hasn't given us a release date because they don't have a firm date themselves.

Cliff Notes: we still don't know anything, but at least we now have an official excuse from VZW.

*sigh*

The 256 MB limatation is on my OG Droid that I currently have and using. I plan to use it as a wi-fi only device when I get the SGN.

The OTG problems are being discuses over at xda-developers: [Q] Usb host on the go - xda-developers

LONG time lurker..finally registered.

Been on ATT for a long time and my Captivate with CM7 battery, was lasting like 4 hours. So I got fed up and decided to use the Rezound/Razr rental program at Verizon.

Went yesterday to our local corp store which is always always a madhouse. You have to sign in and wait for a rep. Told them im here to switch from ATT and rent a Rezound till they get the Nexus. My rep was not very happy. She went and tried to get more info on the Nexus which amounted to nothing. Then they tried to tell me it was a 14 day return policy. Had to tell them..no. Another 5 minutes talking with managers and other reps as they were all clueless about the holiday return policy. (we are talking a big store with 15+ employees on the floor). They finally found out I was right! Guess none of them have looked at their receipts for days. Anyway, switched my number and got a Rezound. Told my rep to call me if she finds out anything about the Nexus.

It's a really fast phone, and the screen is nice. Even with all the crapware they have on it it's WAY faster then my Captivate. I am almost amazed how fast it is. And using real 4g is awesome. Can't believe iv'e been using 3g for so long without switching, it makes the phone so much more usable for websurfing and such.

So now the waiting game. Lets hope for some info from Verizon today!

So has anyone heard when the double data promotion is ending??? Really hoping not November since it looks like the Nexus won't come out till December. I just wish they'd open up a pre-order since I'm assuming that would lock me into the double data.

When I went to take advantage of the Rent-a-RAZR program, the salesperson hinted that the Double Date was a ploy to bring people in before Black Friday and that would not be available after Wednesday this week. They did not say this was 100%, but they felt pretty strongly that would be the case.

Personally, I don't buy it (by "it", I mean the executive's reason). Verizon has been shown to release phones with issues (Bionic?) in the past. Not to mention the fact that the phone has been released in the UK with minimal issues, and is seeing release dates in other countries as well, some as early as in a few days. If there was such a major issue with the phone, I can't imaging it being released elsewhere yet.

I still think it's a matter of pushing the RAZR/ReZound train as much as possible before they "have" to release the Nexus to keep some semblance of exclusivity.

Had the same experience at my corp. store, but had a stuck up sales rep who refused to look in the computer and told me I had 14 days no matter what ( I was going to by the Razr full retail). I finally got pissed and just left thinking it just wasnt meant to be....I also thought at that point maybe it was just extended online or something.

Good morning GNexers! It's a crisp day here in Western New York and I am on my first day of a week long vacation!

I was certainly hopeful for a launch today. I now remember when I was in Verizon on Friday the sales dude said something about Verizon's ads during football games which made no sense to me at the time. As I pondered it, I considered maybe he was suggesting a GNex ad during a Sunday game. Since I don't watch football, I kept an eye on Twitter to see if the rumor mill lit up. No dice.

I finally realize these rumors are all useless. I knew that from a intellectual standpoint, but now I really get it. I grok. No offense intended to the leakers since they are just passing on information they receive in an attempt to be helpful.

I predict this week, no launch. I'm figuring the same for next week. As confusing as this all is and nearly inconceivable (yes, that word means what I think it means), Verizon refuses to launch it and there isn't a thing we can do about it. Once you accept that, the stress just flows out and life is really more enjoyable. Sometimes pessimism is the way to go!

I've been harping on this for the past few days but at least for me, it's really the healthiest way to view the situation.

We will EASILY beat the Incredible thread, no doubt in my mind. It's all good.

I took this as nothing more than a canned answer from Verizon. And I don't think a supervisor is all that high up on the corporate chain. I've been a supervisor for a major corporation, and trust me...I was a peon.

Crap, I wish they would just let me go in there and buy a plan, give them money for my nexus, and then just say, give it to me when it comes in. I'd take a week or 2 without a phone to lock in twice the data for two years. Data is the whole reason I'm making the switch!

so if the rezound had s-off and had a fully functional ICS rom on it.. how many here would go buy one today?

Coming from 2 HTC devices in the past, I certainly wouldn't. It takes forever to get a good AOSP rom on them. CM for the Incredible did work well at the end, but the Thunderbolt has yet to recieve a truly 100% functional AOSP rom. CM 7.1.1 is ok, but its unofficial so you wait months for the changes to move into your build, Liquid Smooth is ... not "smooth" at all for me.

Its sad, I dislike MIUI but its what I'm using at the moment because its the most fluid. Tired of all the screen lag on the other AOSP roms.
