I did stop into a VZW corp store over the weekend, hoping....

The guy a was talking to did check his system, according to him, no date in the system... one of his co-workers then informed me that it should be a few weeks so the RAZR has time to sell... I brought up the ReZound and the guy says, "the Rezound is not the same class of phone as the Razr or Nexus...

At that point I thanked them for their help and walked out shaking my head.....

I know nothing new... these guys are clueless.... but thought I should share....

Well, I guess we all have one of these stories, so FWIW, here's mine:

I just called the closes Verizon store to me, asked about the GN. I think I was talking to a robot ("that is proprietary information, we can't give that out"). That was in response to my question if he knows when it'll be launched. I didn't get very far with him at all. I think he knew more than he was saying, but he was definitely a rules kinda guy.

I called the next closest corp store, and got further along. I spoke with a lady that put me on hold, was gone a LONG time, came back and said that it launches next Thursday (12/1/11.) She said they didn't have any promotional materials on it, yet. She asked for my name / number, and she'll call me as soon as they have more info, some in stock, etc etc. I felt like she was being truthful as far as she knows, and honestly, 12/1/11 makes sense.

Personally, I think VZW doesn't want to launch these phones too closely together. Not just to increase sales of the "r" phones, but also to make a bigger production of the GN. This is, after all, their first ICS phone, and I would think they'll want to do some type of marketing blitz solely for it. I hope they DO make a big deal of it, as we'll see more support, more accessories, etc, the more of these that are sold.

On a side note, keep in mind that VZW probably has SOME idea of what they're doing, even if we think they don't. I can assure you they have meetings after meetings regarding these issues like this, marketing surveys/strategies to maiximize their profits, on when best to release any phone.

I would also encourage you to think that they don't really have any OBLIGATION to us to give us a date, although we'd LOVE it if they did. A phone is no different from any other product....they can do with it as they please. If we don't like it, we can let them know of our displeasure with our dollars.

Sorry for the longer-than-intended post....didn't mean to be so long winded.

That could have been from his perspective as trying to sell them, as in both the razr and nexus are phones verizon is pushing the rezound is not. idk, just an idea

Guys, got a text from my sister:

I texted back:

Edit:

She just texted back:
I know I'm a little behind, but I don't get it. If they found bugs, how can they fix the bugs and get those fixes loaded onto phones that are presumably all packaged up in nice retail boxes and sitting in warehouses? If they do have to "fix" all these phones before release, how can they still be aiming at a Friday release?

Sheesh, if it's a software issue, I wish they'd just release the phone and push out an OTA update to fix what ever the problem(s) is/are.

Man...

If that would have happened I wouldn't have caught Roosevelt's awesome video since I didn't catch the OP. I say leave 'em. If the mods need them removed due to clutter I'm sure they would say so.

Well, it's not the mods that need them removed due to clutter - it's all the Nexaholics whose browsers are being slowed down by all the Flash content, a problem for desktop or mobile browsers.

Time doesn't permit editing all of the quoted posts when there's so much other site work for us to do.

But if anyone does take that editing time, I am sure that the great majority will surely appreciate it. :) ;)

Plus - we have two threads, one here for any Nexus stuff, one in the Lounge for any really good zingers, that the better videos ought best be copied into anyways. ;)

It's our forum, we're all in this together, so all this is at your option - our job is to just give you the choices. ;)

Cheers, thanks a lot! :)

I thought this also...

But it basically boils down to them not wanting to release a bugged phone to the general public. People who are not awaiting this phone as much as we are, or at all, will not understand why it was released with bugs.

They probably want to make sure they have a fix ready to be pumped out so when you boot your phone up it gets pushed out to the device immediately.

If anything, I'd expect that if there are software bug fixes, those can be pushed with a Day One OTA if they have the corporate will for it.

them delaying it to sell more razrs and rezounds does not make any sense to me when they change the return policy like they did......lets use common sense here and stop over thinking it.

Not so sure, remember we are a small group of people, so our feelings and knowledge don't match up with the general public. The RAZR and Rezound are still nice phones, and most people are not aware of the GNex. 90% of people who don't know about the GNex, pick out the phone they want they day they go into the store, and as long as they have no major issues, are not going to return it.

Back in Sept/Oct there was a 0% chance that if you told me I would not be playing my Galaxy Nexus before Black Friday I would have believed you. I followed the Bionic for like 6 months. Then got lured into the Gnex once the Bionic kept disappointing. Now this.

I couldn't hold on any longer. I have a friend who works for AT&T and he hooked me up with some discounts. I must say, the SGSII is damn sexy. Good luck to the rest of you. Verizon did this to themselves. I've never seen a company shoot themselves in the foot so often.

The volume bug seems to be limited to GSM 2G radio when it happens. In UK, 3G HSPA is so spotty, so the phone often falls back to 2G edge probably. I guess it will be fixed by firmware update. I'm not worried on this as Verizon one has CDMA radio.

I know that's the XDA scuttlebutt, however, the Google bug report page seemed to tie to wifi operations cutting in.

This is true, but those normal people will still see this new phone out the next time they go in the store and the person says hey its only 35$ to switch if you want too, and to most people 35$ is not a big deal if they really like it.

Sorry to see you go. It may be a lot to ask, but if you could do us a big favor and let Verizon know why you left them, would be appreciated by those of us who for coverage reasons can't do the same.

I would love to agree with you... what concerns me is the number of phones that have released with substantial bugs from VZW... on the same note... I really do hope you are correct! :)
