Root Sholes 2.0.5 is out!

im glad they dropped the N1 launcher, it was too laggy and buggy, the stock tray is better in practicality, as well as allows the rest of the phone to be smoother. atm im stable clocked at 1200, which is fantastic since 1000 was bad for me on 2.0.3. really great release, 0 force closes, smooth overall. my flash crapped out during first boot and i had to pull the bat, and i lost notification sounds, reflashed and everything is back to normal

Very cool, I wonder they released 2.0.4 RC1 then released 2.0.5 in a span of 24 hours.

EDIT: It's on SMU and I am downloading it now.

I went over to their site and don't see a download link just the change log

Duh! I guess that 12 hour shift really got to me, I had the damn thing "Simupdater 8" all along, think I better get some sleep before I Frack something up.

Hmm.. just updated.. not sure my thoughts yet. I grabbed the SMUpdater to install it and everything went smooth. However after it was done and the phone rebooted, the phone got extremely hot. My battery temp is the same, so it has to be CPU (no monitor) as the back of the phone beside the camera is warm and smells a bit like hot electronics. Thing is the phone was only set at 600, and I was running Beast at 1ghz with no issue.

Aside from that though.. damn is it smooth. Keyboard is much more responsive as well as the rest of the interface.

I ended up pulling my battery for a bit and when I rebooted the heat issue was gone. Running 1200 without much eat rise now, and it is awesome. The touchscreen responsiveness is so much better now. Not only is typing much more fluid, but it even made crappy apps like Guitar, and Tub Thumper work incredibly well. They used to be fairly laggy for me, but now I get sound the instant my finger touches, regardless of how fast I do it (aside from multitouching.)

As for Smoked and Beast.. Smoked is a theme included in either rom, Sholes 2.0.5 has it included if ya want it. And Beast is decent, but without a different kernal flash, sholes 2.0.5 is now faster since it supports 1200mhz. Not to mention Beast doesn't have the touchscreen response fix yet, that I have seen anyway. I was using the latest Beast and I can tell a big difference after switching.

SholesMod 2.0.5 should be hitting the servers and smupdater shortly.
Changes:
Kernel
- 8 cpufreq slots (250/500/600/700/800/1000/1100/1200) based on a patch by t3hSteve
- LCD/touchscreen fixes backported from 2.6.32 based on a patch by t3hSteve
- Ext2 module is now included as a module (ext3 has been included for quite some time, I added ext2 due to popular request)
ROM Apps
- 2.1 Launcher has been removed, it’s just not worth using yet.
On a side note, we’ve gotten 2.6.32 to boot, but wifi/bluetooth/camera are not working properly, it has quite a ways to go still, definitely not ready by any means.
We are also busy moving our repos to git, which we will post more about when we are ready.
We’re also working very closely with other devs as well, as you will see more of in the next coming weeks.
If you’re a dev, or just starting out, we’d love to have you join us, or work with us, in our open quest for a better Droid! Our public home to get in contact with us is on IRC via freenode: #sholesmod

Hmm.. 1 bug I've found already, or maybe it's just my phone, but it constantly freezes whenever I try to change my alarm clock ringtone. Can anyone else verify?

Actually.. it seems the whole Clock app is having problems.. doesn't appear to be the same that was in my Beast install.

OK.. seems like it is the overall sounds on the phone. Nothing will play, and had to reboot to fix it. Could this be because of the AudioToggle.apk they put on the rom?

Does anyone else worry a little about running ABOVE 1Ghz? I mean the chip I thought could only take up to that? I'm at 1200 currently, and it's FASTTT! But what about the longevity of the chip? Will it be okay running at this speed?

Keep an eye on your temperature. I am running no hotter at 1200 then I have at 1000 so my guess is (and I am sure someone more knowledgeable will correct me if I am wrong) I am at no (or at least not much) greater risk.
