Bought a replacement battery (3500) and had it on charge over night (15 hours) no green light, 80% charge

Put the phone by the window, gps on, no sim inside, all apps closed, low light etc etc, put Igo8 on and left it

it lasted just over 1 hour before it went flat

My trusted old XDA orbit had 70% with tomtom running, sim inside etc

1 hour for the wildfire with extended battery in, normal?

Nope thats not normal at all, smart phones battery life isnt that great but what you said sounds reaally bad
How was the battery life when you had your old battery?
Have you checked everything that's running, sending data i.e. using battery life without your consent???
Even if you close some apps Froyo (Android 2.2) may actually re-open some of those apps.
Try some task killers and see if it helps

thanks for your reply

I have just been looking on other forums, seems a common prob

I did do all the apps, background stuff and left the phone with gps on to see how long it would last

old battery - rubbish, prob lasts about 15-20 mins while messing with it

HTC say the ywill have the phone picked up but I bought it 2nd hand (not knowing about battery issue) believing it to be about 6 months old
would HTC repair/replace under warranty?
im assuming they will

Hmm,
Erm i doubt HTC will grant you your repair since the handset isnt originally yours, but im not too sure, you could call up or check the HTC website, but try to be certain of their policy before you ask them to repair it

Btw is your Wildfire rooted?

Quickest repair ever.

Contacted HTC, they picked the phone up last Weds at 4pm
I have just received the phone back this morning (Monday), so they did what they had to do Thurs, back in post Fri.
A bit cheeky to expect a new phone but lets hope its now fixed
its on charge awaiting the green light

phone not rooted but have tried (failed)

decided to use the phone at 50% battery and see how long it lasts then put it on ovenight

GREAT :D
Im happy for you, btw dont leave your Wildfire plugged in for long when its at 100%, it will lower your battery life

Its exactly the same!

What did they do, turn it off and on then send back

back on to them then

battery went from 55% to 10 in less than 1 hour
this is a new larger battery as well I got prior to getting on to them
I had 3g on for a couple of mins, wifi for about 15 mins, just setting the phone up

Wow serious??
That's not right
Hmm do you think they changed the battery?
What else do you notice that has changed??
Maybe i fear they just gave you a new battery and sent it back :/

update -

Today I have a new battery sent by HTC and its been on charge just a couple of hours

I checked a min ago and funny enough it was at 80% (never been over 80).
The phone is powered off as well, if I leave on stand by it would take about a fortnight to charge.

When it was sent off to them they just asked for the bear phone - no battery, no cover etc
I think they did a hard reset and returned
Apparently the engineer found no errors with it
Well, they might have done if they tried to charge a battery up with it

Anyway, I will see how much the battery has later

Ok dude keep me posted :)
Would you use task managers to help save your battery life or do you find them pointless?

I do use app manager - kill app or something, whether it helps me I dont think it does, it might help in a way but its not the problem with the phone.

As said I get about one hour or so from the battery.
But, as I havent let it totally die I would put it back on charge when asked to at about 10%

I have since continued to use the phone off charge under 10% and have got about 3 hours use, maybe more, this is when I am trying to kill the battery prior to overnight charge.

How much use would I expect at 10% charge?

ps. this is on my new normal battery (havent seen any difference on my extended battery - 3500)
Also have to say that HTC themselves have been brilliant, have never had service like it, all by email via their website.

Erm probably like 10 - 15 mins if my Wildfire is being nice, but then again it depends on the processes and services that are running

Yh that is great service
Hows the battery itself now??
