DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit is an alternative method to root your 2.3.4/2.3.5.

For Windows...
On your phone, check Unknown Sources and USB Debugging
Plug into your computer, and keep the USB on Mass Storage
On your computer, download and unzip the Easy Rooting Toolkit zip
Run the runme.bat

And that's it. Worked fine for me on 2.3.4, and it's faster than the one-click method.

EDIT: Zergrush doesn't work if you're planning on updating to 2.3.5, make sure to use Motorola One Click instead.

make sure you are following all the steps to the tee. Often times failing to put the phone in charging mode or putting it in debugging mode is the culprit. Other than that try a different root method. This one has always worked for me for 2.3.4
Pete's Motorola Root Tools

And, if you are planning to update to the latest ota update, you MUST use Pete's root tools. Zergrush breaks the ota update as it moves system files around that the update is looking for.
