Clarrifacation on N1 specifics.

Hello, im my quest to get a smartphone i started at the magic and was convinced up the line, to hero then to some silly windows phone then to the N1, but i am unclear on a few things related to the phone that are rather make or break for me.

first off i read the phone didnt have multi-touch,i heard it was added in a update, but they make a note to mention certain instances where this is used. is the multi-touch true multi touch that work in ever area, or will it only work in certain apps?

the phone comes with the snapdragon processor, but from the videos ive been watching of it pitted with other phones (all useing older procs half the speed) the N1 doesnt seem to be anywhere near justifiably quicker, is this the case?

ive read alot of people are not impressed by the speaker, and complain the phone is to quiet to be heared from a pocket.

am i able to store useable programs on external memory or am i forced to use the internal memory only?

i know some of these questions have probly been answered before, but ive read alot of posts after useing search and im not finding exact answers, only variations of what ive already read, which arnt specific ( i know pinch to zoom was stated to be on the phone now and thats multi-touch, but thats still not specificly is the whole phone multi-touch or is that just one of the features that work now)

From what I've seen so far, its only certain apps. And yes it was added in a firmware update.

Can't really answer this as I haven't owned any other touchscreen smartphone, but to me..the Nexus is the fastest phone currently on the market that doesn't need to be overclocked. (like the Droid) and Verizon even sells the Droid for MORE than the Nexus.

What phone can you hear from inside your pocket? This is what the vibration mode is for.

The Android market stores the apps on the internal memory, while some apps once installed to the internal memory, store their information on the MicroSD card.

If you root, you can install everything to the MicroSD, but honestly not worth the hassle.

Apps that use it are the browser, photo gallery, google maps and some other 3rd party apps like snesoid etc. I dont think its needed on the homescreen or anything like that.

It smokes my buddies Cliq and is noticably faster than my coworkers droid. And a heck of a lot faster than my old curve. Fastest phone ive ever touched

True, my girls 9700 bold has a much clearer speaker when she plays music, but as far as ringtones/notifications go its not as good quality as other phones but its definately loud enough

Not until you root it and install an app (i forget what its called, apps2sd maybe?)

It works in Browser, Gallery and Maps. Multitouch is also available to Devs and therefore Market Apps will/can use it if required.

It is fast. I had a Hero before and Nexus blows it away. There will be some things that other phones with different architecture or lower screen resolution will do better (or worse). The Nexus One is fast.

My speaker is fine. I'm not a kid who wants to play music through my phone speaker in the street.

Internal memory unless rooted currently. Some games and apps put some components on the SD card. If you get an Emulator, all the games can go on SD card. This is something Google say they are working on.

For what it's worth, I can hear the phone ring/get a text from within my pocket, whilst in it's neoprene pouch. Can't ask for much more really?

i downloaded tons of applications in the internal memory and it's still not full yet - really not an issue for me.

Exactly, a lot of the apps are 1-5mb which means you can fit more on than you're likely to really need.

thanks for the replies, certainly got a lot of them .

so the muti touch does work with third party aps? how well does it work, i saw a review last night of it with a guy trying to use it with a pong app, and it really didnt look like it worked at all.

good to hear the phone is quicker, alls i have to go on right now are reviews and posted videos, none of which help me because i dont care about syncing my weather with my calender.

the installing onto my sd card was more for installing things from my computer to my phone, rather then installing from my phone.

the speaker im just curious about, i currently use a razor 2, and i can not ever hear that thing ring, however my older, rizer, i can hear all the time. i use the same mp3 for both (the same mp3 ive used for over 5 years as my ringer)

i wont lie, this phone will be a toy to me, im not a ceo, im not using it to run a business, i dont care about the weather, syncing my calender, auto updating my e-mail, or even the camera, which i will never use. this is a toy. i will, if you can believe it, use the phone mostly for making and receiving calls. after that i will probably use it for things like games (i heard emulators work well on other phones, and im a big old school gamer) which is why multi touch is important. i am attracted to this phone because it seems to be a little powerhouse that wont become obsolete as quickly as something else, and honestly the 530 buck price tag is way to high. seriously theres nothing about this or any handset that justifys the price of a laptop. however i am willing to shell it out because the government did me well with income taxes.

my hopefully last big question, what are the honest hardcore CONS of this phone. what are the things that you absolutely cant stand about it?

$530 is not expensive for a smartphone without contract in my opinion.

Worst thing about the Nexus One for me:

Loss of signal when holding the base of the phone. I live in a 2 bar GSM area and lose signal completely if not careful. However, when in strong signal areas this doesn't seem to be a problem. This is also related to the Nexus One 3G issues yu will no doubt read about.

No problem though as I'm moving soon and the house we've bought has strong HSDPA!

Other than that - I love it.

i have read about spotty 3g for tmobile users, and although i live in a 3g area i exspect this will be some sort of problem, but who knows.
