recently my phone has been going to a white screen and the only way to get it off is to beat the back of the phone and then it starts working. the screen also is black sometimes with green lines running down through it. When it does work there is sometimes discoloration on the screen. Any suggestions and I'm not exactly "smart" when it comes to technology so if you could dumb it down a little bit it would be greatly appreciated...I'm in college and my roommate also has the same phone with the same issue.

Have you gotten the phones wet or dropped them? It sounds like the display has gone bad. Definitely take it back for a replacement if you can.

the phone has never been dropped or has gotten wet. and we don't have insurance either because they charge a decent amount just to get a replacement phone its $5 a month plus a $100 replacement fee by the time you factor that in you've pretty much paid for a brand new phone.

I recommend calling in to USCC. As long as you don't have any physical damage to the phone (ie. chips in the casing, deep scratches, wet, etc.) you can call the customer service hotline (dial *611 on your USCC phone) and ask them for a replacement phone. It's free, and albeit annoying when it comes to the customer service rep telling you different ways to fix the phone. All in all, after following their instructions (or you can say that you've attempted all of that already, but to no avail) they will send you a replacement phone in the mail by UPS and it will (should) arrive the next business day.

Again, this is a free service. Just make sure to return the defective phone or they will charge you the retail cost of the phone ($300).

You're a little off in your calculations. If you have to purchase a new Mesmerize, it will be in the $400-$600 range, because you'll be paying full price for it. The $50-$200 amount you paid when you first got the phone was the "promo" price, plus a 2 year contract. $5 a month and a $100 deductible is far cheaper than $600 even in the 23rd month.

That being said, unless you bought the phone over a year ago, it is covered under warranty. USCC will replace it.

I just spoke with a USCC tech rep regarding warranty issues. If your phone is less than one year old you do have warranty on it. This is assuming that you have not caused the damage: dropping the phone, moisture, etc.

You need to call USCC 1.888.944.9400, or 611 on your cell phone, and select option 3: tech help. As you explain your situation, the USCC tech rep will forward your call to Samsung, and you will then explain the situation to Samsung Customer Service/Tech Help. According to USCC the manufacturers will replace the phone for free.

So, don't give up on this!

That's info that would have been useful about 9 posts ago.

USCC will not honor the warranty for CL/Ebay purchases. Whoever sold you the phone sold you junk, and they probably knew it, unfortunately.

This may wind up as an expensive lesson in "you get what you pay for".
