Help My lord, is it possible to send contacts via MMS? I'm stumped.

You can send contacts via MMS?

I didn't even know the phone can send and receive contacts...

That's ridiculous, sending contacts numbers via SMS has been a standard feature on handsets for a long time. If you can send pictures and attach other things i don't understand why the Magic cannot send business cards?!

Am i really going to have to manually copy a number and type it into a message... i mean surely this is simple in comparison to lets say.. sending a picture or uploading a video.. jeeez

Well, first I'd like to say this is my 7th phone over the course of 9 years and this is the first I've heard of sending contacts via SMS. I've never sent one, and I don't know anyone who has. People have texted me a contact number, but not as an attachment or MMS, they've just copied and pasted it into text message -- so as far as this being a "standard feature" that's debateable.

It would appear that since the contacts are pulled from the gmail contacts, it does not organize the information as "cards", thus it cannot attach something it does not have. I can't email a contact to someone, either.

Sorry this is a bummer for you, might want to suggest this as an app ( I think there's somewhere to do that on this forum) or contact Android and tell them about it. They certainly can't add this feature if they don't know it's missing and desired.

Ok... well its a bummer indeed, its a bit of a mission copying numbers and pasting them etc. I've had a samsung D600 and a Sony Eriksson K800i both pretty popular phones that could both send and recieve cards. If you recieved one it could just automatically save it to contacts... hmm.

The numbers on my magic are imported from my k800i not from gmail so im not sure about that!

Anyway I'll submit it as an idea in the apps section, good call on that one!

I was able to send vCard contact info from my SE 990i to other BT phones ...
my vCard (contact info) or others in my phone directory ...
could also scan business cards directly into my directory ...
Video Phone ... and so much more .... but still love my G1

Looks like two devs are trying to answer your wish. Today I doing my usual scan of the market for new apps and saw two apps that sound like they fit the bill one is called "ContactSender" by rde8026 and the other is called "SendContact" by OnShore which costs $1. Hopefully one of those is what you want.


Let me just say that this, I think, is one of the benefits of android being so bare bones and open source. While it may be "missing" features that some consider basic functions -- to others, these are perks we never wanted and don't need. In this respect, we don't have to lament that our phone memory is tied up in bloatware that we don't want. I recall that being an issue with my T-Mobile Wing, they packed that thing with all sorts of nonsense apps that I would never need nor want. There was a tether app, a boatload of templates for documents I'd NEVER be creating on a phone, several MSN Live programs I never used, a gallery of default images I didn't want, the phone memory was almost completely taken up with very little of it that I was "allowed" to delete. Yes, it had the advantage of installing and running apps from the SD Card, but it totally annoyed me that MS had decided for me what kind of functions and programs I needed and wouldn't let me strip away the clutter. By simplifying, Android is letting us decide what kind of phone experience we want. I might have apps that are super important to me that the rest of you might go "meh" about. It's customized in a way that I don't think anyone else is doing right now.
