Yes, it's true Skype will not use up your Verizon Minutes. However, the reason it won't use your minutes is that it only works using your WiFi Connection, which is data. So, to use Skype you will have to find a WiFi location that you can connect to. That means, your wireless router at home, the airport, Starbucks, Panera Bread, etc. It only makes sense if your at home or you purposely plan on going to a WiFi location to make international calls.
I can see skype working for those of us who have a tendancy to go over our minutes before or cycle date. It'd be kinda like a backup parachute for us. Any backup is nice. this is all assuming they allow use over 3g.
-using Swype
it will be enabled via 3g, one big plus i see is you might be able to do a video call, except you need to put a mirror on your phone so you can record yourself and see the screen.
I believe the announcement said that Verizon-Skype will ONLY run over 3G, not WiFi. Reason is that Verizon wants to sell more data plans. Allowing Skype over Wifi would canabalize their calling plans. I think they also said that while Skype to Skype is free (other than the requisite data plan) Skype to regular phone is charged against call plan minutes. Details remain to be seen.
This just made all your Google Voice invites worthless.
Do you use GV?
You can text with google voice.. Dunno if you can with skype
I use it for visual voicemail right now. My girlfriend has it set as a second number though and it works great for business calls.
I've never used Skype or GV. Are those features not available from Skype? What other advantages does GV offer?
