Cupcake - Weak

The Cupcake 1.5 is a good improvement but it is still missing some "basic" function such as Flash and Java Runtime*. Does anyone know when we can expect to see such features become available?

I tried to run Scottrade's java based real time quote application and it would not run.

The G1 is still missing the ability to transfer file between two phones using bluetooth after Cupcake upgrade!

Flash is not a basic feature, nor is it in half the smart phones available. However, I know for sure they are working on it... you can check the repo codes yourself and see as well as make your own builds from them... as for exact dates on when we will have flash not sure, but is it in the repo for anyone to look at, download, etc... most definitely and here is the proof : android.git.kernel.org Git - tools/gwtexpui.git/blob - src/main/java/com/google/gwtexpui/clippy/client/CopyableLabel.java

As for Java well it does use java, just combined with xml and not sure if it is something you want but there is a J2ME app in the market... and the proof is here : http://www.cyrket.com/package/com.netmite.andme

As for transfer of files I would use Afile app which acts as a server so you can connect directly to the phone... again here : http://www.cyrket.com/package/mobi.bbase.discover

Not sure why you feel these are all basic features but asking for info in the future will probably be a better way to get what you feel you are missing...

Flash 10 coming to a non-Apple smartphone near you in 2010 - Ars Technica

T-Mobile, Android, and HTC can do about as much about Flash as Toyota can do about the next Britney Spears CD. Complaining to Toyota that Ms. Spears' new album isn't in your CD player in your Camry makes about as much sense as complaining to Android about flash.

Which is to say: zero.

The next time your neighbors are too loud, bang on the door of someone who else who lives on your block and demand to know why they haven't stopped your neighbors from being so loud.

Or perhaps you can complain to the janitor at Wrigley Field the next time the Bears lose a football game.

Tomorrow I'll be boycotting Pepsi until they do something about the flavor of cherry coke.

Next week, I'll be writing a letter to apple to complain about the drapes in the hotel I stayed in last week.

I'll finish off the summer complaining to the government about the fact that I'm nearsighted.

It's a smartphone, it makes calls, sends and receives sms/mms, sends email, and surfs the internet. Nowhere in there is a "basic" need for flash or java. It's also missing silverlight, DOS, dreamweaver, and can't make french toast --why no complaints about that?

Flash is basic? Compared to what cause as far as i know, no other phone has flash. Java runtime...seriously? Once we get the ever elusive FLASH you people will find something else to complain about....just watch.

Ugh, sometimes people miss the most obvious features.

Take phone, place over garlic, hit phone.

This is basic stuff.

Next people will complain that the "paper-weight" feature only works during calls while in speakerphone mode...

I bricked my phone as few days ago (for about 4 hours) ....

I thought about starting that new brick barbeque in the back yard ... put it would be a pretty pitiful pit with only one brick !! so I gave up that plan and just got the phone back to working ....

Lol. You really are a child. Your information is just plain wrong. Adobe gave an aproximate time for Flash to be ready for Android as being the end of 2009. Just because you have seen a proof of concept video does not mean they are sitting on the finished product. How many times do people have to explain to you the difference between "OPEN" (which Android is not) and "open source" (which Android is. You can call it flaming if you will, but I think you make a fool of yourself with your rants.

LMAO@ this whole thread! :D

On another note, I would be nice to have the bluetooth transfer function. Sometimes my wife and I, or even friends have a cool ringtone or wallpaper we want and it's nice to be able to beam the file around. Almost every phone Ive ever owned with Bluetooth has this feature. From Motorola to Sony.
