Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

It does function a bit differently, but you just have to get used to it. I just long pressed my search button, and said "Send text to jerry, this is a test" and it opened the same window the Voice button would have on the stock rom, and all I need to do was press send or cancel. Did the same with email, navigation, music, they all worked a bit differently from the stock Voice button press, but they all worked fine with this method. ;)

I tested the Navigation app today for about 15 minutes. It found my location instantly, looked up my destination in about 20 seconds on 3g, and gave me step by step voice instructions all the way to the destination, and popped up the street view of the destination about 100 yards before I arrived there.

After reading a pastebin from someone who said navigation was crashing, I noticed that particualr person had no network access just before the usage. This leads me to believe that issues with navigation are related to network connectivity at the time you are attempting to use it.

Jerry, I was using Maps (not navigation) this weekend. It, like you said got location very fast and kept my position updated. However if I let the screen sleep when I went back in the map would be blank. I then had to hit the power button and unlock screen, once back in I'd get an FC from maps. This happened every time the screen locked. If I got it when the screen first went black but hadn't locked yet it was fine.

As far as I remember I had 3G the entire time.

I assume there will be a beta When bob or Jerry finish it, so my question was:

To be a "beta tester" do you need to be experienced with that kind of stuff? Or can a regular person do it?
I'm kinda confused as to what one even does, but if you don't need any experience and you need testing done for it, then I'd be happy to help you guys out (with a quick rundown of what needs done)

Ahh, maps will allow the screen to go to sleep, navigation keeps the screen awake. I did not know it was a maps specific bug, will look into that, but that leads me to believe it is an app issue.

We test out builds ourselves, then unleash them to all you unwary victims when we feel they are stable enough. This is why you see a bug here or there on various builds (though Bob hasn't released any that I know of, some people have a gift at this stuff @Bob&Blarf). ;)

Are you using the stock texting app?

Yes.

@13oilerup: I just tested MMS and SMS, and they both worked fine. Be sure you have an active 3G connection when attempting to send MMS.

I do not have 3G where I tried it, but I was connected to wifi. SMS worked fine but MMS wouldn't go through.
I will try where I have a 3G connection and see what happens.

somebody posted on AC or XDA that you can go to the settings > manage applications > messaging (listed under All) and clear data.
that is supposed to fix it.

I gave that a try and no go.

Thanks!

And thanks for clearing that up for me. I wasn't rooted (or even sure I had this phone) when backside came out so I didn't know how that went

...I do not have 3G where I tried it, but I was connected to wifi. SMS worked fine but MMS wouldn't go through...

MMS only works over 3G, not 1G or wifi, so MMS will not send/receive without 3G enabled.
SMS will work over 1G, so even if you have wifi on, SMS will still send/receive.

If you have both 3G and wifi connected, it will normally automatically enable the 3G connection long enough to send, then switch back to wifi. However, if another service is using the network connection over wifi at that moment, it will not close the connection and open a 3G connection till a later time.

I ran navigation through maps. Maybe it has an effect on it?
I also use the cm7 power mod to toggle gps when using and not in use. What's your CPU at when running nav?

I never toggle GPS, it's only active when used.

I keep my phone running 480/748 all the time.

All reported issues so far have been with Maps. So I'm going to have to file this one under app-related.

I've noticed the past few days that my battery life hasn't been what it was. Usually overnight the battery would drain maybe 5% or so but now it's been draining near 20-30% overnight. Also I just went out with 3g on for 20 minutes and my battery drained 10%. This is starting to get ridiculous and so I'm wondering what it is that's causing this. My battery use shows that my time without signal is 1% and as usual doesn't give a clue as to whether an app is causing this. I haven't been using an app that requires a constant connection overnight. Any help is appreciated!
