Help How do I put my custom mp3 ringtones in the same place where the default ringtones are located?

I have Nonsensikal ROM installed on this Eris and occasionally make my own mp3 ringtones. But they never show up in the default list of available ringtones. Is this by Eris design?

I know how to add a custom ringtone but was just curious as to why I cant include it in the default listing area rather than having to go to my music gallery.

You don't need to do that - just create a folder on your SD card anywhere called "Ringtones" (and/or "Notifications" for those) and put the files in there. All Android builds will add them to the list of built-in Ringtones and Notifications.

I have a top-level folder called "Media" with the "Ringtones" and "Notifications" folders in there, just to keep them organized better - but you don't need to do that if you don't want to.

Okay i know it is more than likely too late, but here is a quick alternative i found,
NOTE: Myxer may not have the tone you want.

So you download the myxer app
(don't go through your browser to get the myxer tones because you won't get speciall options in like you will in the app.)
search for your tone and when you select "get ringtone" it should bring you to a screen where it allows you to "customize" or "download"
Click customize, this will bring you to a screen where you can even edit the length of the song,when your done messing with that you then Click "Save"
This will bring up a screen that says "save as" you can choose ringtone,alarm,notifications, and music..obviously you want notifications
and Viola it is able to be selected as a tone in your notifications
(It will ask to automatically do it for you, i didn't let it because i wanted to make my texts,and email tones differently)

I know it seems like a lot, but i was also being very detailed and when your doing it it really is not much, also myxer has gotten really popular so it will most likely have the tone you want. hope i have helped someone out there.

P.s you can delete myxer after you have set them and your tones will still be there.

I want one friend to make one sound when they text me, and another friend to make a different sound when they text me. I already have the little .mp3 sounds picked out and put in my folder that I made called "Ringtones" as per your recommendation. Now I just need to know how to set them. Anyone know?

I'm not sure if you can do this with the stock messaging app, if that's what you're using. I know it can be done with Go sms Pro, and probably with Chomp and Handcent as well. I would try one of those apps.

Yeah Go SMS Pro worked well for setting up my individual text messaging notifications. However, they don't make it very easy to figure out. They call an individual text sound a "ringtone". I guess you need a new, separate app to actually setup individual ringtones for people? My old, much lower samsung solstice did all this with the greatest ease. You could set a general ringtone, a ringtone for specific individuals, texts for specific individuals, and a general text notification very easily. For some reason, the galaxy S kinda sucks in this regard.
