Anyone Pick Up a Milestone Today?

No one has it from Telus yet. Checked around today at lunch and all the dealers have it on order, and at least in Calgary expect the orders to arrive Wednesday or Thursday. You can order it online, but it'll be a few days to get it that way as well. I've got on the waiting list with one of the dealers (lucked out and was the first on the list, by the time I left though 2 more people had came in asking as well) so I'm hoping to get a phone call tomorrow afternoon.

Had mine for a few weeks. It's much better than that Nexus One (that i ditched for milestone). Same problems in android though, i.e. mulitple copies in sent folder in yahoo mail from the email app, multiple contacts when syncing with gmail contacts, etc. but this is an android problem, not milestone.

Nexus One is a nice looking phone. That's about it. It just doesn't work. I had the same numerous problems as the other N1 posters - doesn't read key presses after a few clicks, keyboard was just too small, syncing problems to yahoo and gmail contacts (although this is an android problem), etc. My biggest beef (and the reason why I just had to get rid of it) is the support (or lack of) from HTC (google doesn't know what customer support means).

My saga started the day i got my HTC/N1 phone. I called HTC support and reported 4 problems (the same ones that were reported in the N1 forum which I found out later). I got a call from HTC about 2 days later for one of the problems - they told me they couldn't reproduce the yahoo emali multiple copies in sent folder problem and suggested I hard reset the phone. They didn't give me any written instructions (also not in any documents) of how to hard reset the N1 phone. It's rather cumbersom and involves multiple steps requiring 3 fingers to press concurrently at some stage. For the other 3 problems, they were looking into it and had to refer to google tech support. They said nobody in Hong Kong had reported the problems I had (despite numerous threads in the forum had confirmed the problems do exist). Then about 10 days later, i got another call (by this time, i had already ditched the N1 for the Milestone) from HTC support. This time, they said that they again cannot reproduce the yahoo email problem on 20 phones when they were out of the box. They asked if I had install any apps from Market place. I said i did install a few apps (news, ezfolder, bluetooth on/off, etc.). They then (and this really got me fuming) told me to not install any apps on the N1 because that may be the problem. I asked if they were able to reproduce the problem when they download apps into N1. They said they didn't try and would not be responsible for problems if one downloads apps. This is equivalent to Microsoft saying that they are not responsible for the OS problems if any one of the apps caused an application error! Helloooo. if i just wanted a closed-app phone, I wouldn't have bought an android phone!

Suffice to say, I will never buy another HTC phone again until they look up what customer support means when they sell a product. As for Google, well.. they have alot to learn about co-branding/white labeling products from a support perspective.

Though Milestone on Android v.2.0.1 have problems, they have several things going for them - most important is that I can take my phone to Motorola and they will have someone who can answer technical questions. The phone itself is very good - CPU appears to be slow according to specs but it is very fast when you really use it. The slider keyboard takes a little getting use to but it's great. The soft keyboard is also very useable.

I don't have any complaints with the Milestone or Motorola. The best decision I made was to get rid of the Nexus One and HTC out of my life.

Just got back from the Telus store... with my Milestone :)

So far I'm loving it. I walked in just as they were unboxing the shipment they got, by the time I left another 2 people had came in looking for it as well.

Nice. I need to get across the border soon and pick one up, how are you liking the speed and QWERTY? How about the quantity in the store?

No Telus branding, not even Telus Navigator installed (though it can be according to the site). Not even a logo on the default wallpaper as some of the pictures on their site show. Only spot I've seen Telus so far is in the SIMTools app due to it being their SIM card.

Speed-wise so far I'm liking it, haven't installed too much though. The on-screen qwerty is nice, the physical one though I'm agreeing with all those who said the buttons are too small, they are if you're like me and have big fingers.

I bought it on Telus contract.

As for quantities, the store I got it at (in NW Calgary) had about 20 that arrived today, though 3 of them walked out the door within 30 minutes of them arriving in store so I'd say supplies may be up and down a bit depending on location. Another store I talked to yesterday had ordered about 20 as well, but they did have a sizable list of people who had expressed interest (they didn't do pre-orders, more just a 'put your name on the list and we'll call to let you know its available' type thing)

How is typing on the physical QWERTY? Just typing wise? Ie..Speed of typing the ease, etc.

And so that means the phone isnt full of bloatware from Telus?

Speed of typing is not too bad, granted I'm coming from a W385 so having the full qwerty is a bit of a change. It seems fairly responsive at least, enough that its catching every typo I make.

awesome, I think I myself will go up and pick one up soon, I live in WA, so I am just waiting to make a trip for it to be worth it. Thanks for the ups on the phone though, it sounds really nice!

I tried it (still waiting for mine to be shipped) and I really like the keyboard. I used to have a 9700, G1, and a bunch of Treos and I don't think it is too bad. I did like it better than the G1 for sure.

@Haunted Couch you can get the Milestone at Bestbuy Canada for $549. Also online with a special code for $509 (but no shipping with USA credit cards)

I got one of the first two to show up in my city (one of the staff at the store got the other one). I've looked around and found a lot of rooting instructions but none of them specify being for the Telus Milestone and I haven't got the cojones to try any since they all appear to be dated before release and are likely for the european versions.

Hopefully we're able to root soon so I can get Market Enabler installed and grab all the paid apps I was running on my old Dream.

Bought mine on the 17th but had some trouble adding it to my account but today got a sim card and 400$ pack =D. So far im loving it. Ive ordered a zagg skin and screen protector and ill order this Swiss Bank Wallet Case for Motorola Clutch DROID CLIQ on eBay.ca (item 390158486400 end time 23-Feb-10 22:09:27 EST) probably tomorrow. The screen is gigantic compared to the 3.2 on my magic and I HAVE A KEYBOARD AGAIN =D. I don't see why people hate the keyboard thow i love it. Its got a nice feel my only grief is where the delete key is and the space bar should be a little bigger

Coming from a Dream, I can understand some of the complaints. My thick thumbs wiill occasionally hit two keys if I'm not careful.

It's plusses far outweigh the minuses though.
