This might be a little premature but was wondering if anyone knows how this update will come to the Galaxy S2. Will it have to go threw the carriers or just be pushed to everyone at the same time? I hope it does not have to go threw carriers because Bell Canada sucks when it comes to updates.

You know I love Android so much but this update processes really up sets me. How can a top end smart phone like Android be so lacking in updates. For me it is a big factor if I am going to stick with Android. I hope this gets resolved so everyone with an Android phone can get much needed updates.

I have tried to update threw Odin and it did not work for me. does using Odin void warranty at all ? and has anyone got the latest updates using Odin on the Bell network ?

Lack of updates is the sole reason I moved to iPhone from Windows Mobile years ago. Microsoft also refused to provide updates to bugs in their OS and then charged you if you wanted to update to a new OS version. Apple seems to be the only one that gets it from a patch perspective. The problem with Android, in my opinion, is their is a lot of competition in handsets and all the players use new updates to bait you into buying new phones. If they gave us updates, would we really buy a new phone, probably not as frequently as they would like us to!

My SG2 has had two updates in the short period that I have had it. If you are expecting a completely new OS like ICS every few months you are dreaming. There is nothing wrong with Gingerbread and it only needed a little tweaking

I hated when I used my iPhone 4 and 4S as it seemed that every time I turned on my computer either iTunes or the iPhone would have another update that did nothing!

I just want something that work good and get the job done! I guess others are looking for something else.

I am not expecting a new OS every few months but when there is a fix to the OS that I have right now I would like to be able to get it. I am running 2.3.3 and I have read that 2.3.4 has a battery fix in it so yes I would love to have that update. I have tried Ordin and my phone froze up and I am happy I got it back. I just dont like that I have to wait for a crappy Carier like Bell to push this fix and they will not push it so that sucks. I like that Iphone will push a fix to all phones.

I would of course like to have ICS I agree Gingerbread is good but would like the new one of course lol

hey man, im from canada and is using bell just like you. i've been using 2.3.3 ever since i got the phone and first thing i found out on this forum was 2.3.4 - 2.3.5 which gives battery boost so i update via odin because with enough research i know bell ain't getting no updates anytime soon for the galaxy s2. so instead of waiting for it to fulfil my wish, i just did it myself via odin and YES it works for bell, canada. you just got to follow the simple 5 ? 6? steps to flash and update. i just updated my firmware to 2.3.6 yesterday.

Yes what firmware did you use can you please post the link ? I tried using the Bell one but did not work for me at all. I am just a little nervous I might wreck my phone doing this that is all. I rooted my Desire and had so many problems and it finaly crapped out and of course no warranty. Just do not want the same thing going on with this phone.

My phone is on Rogers and I put this firmware on and it works great! Much faster than the 2.3.4 I had previously. Follow the instructions on the XDA link and you should be good to go. It took 3.5 minutes to flash!

XDA Site Instructions: [ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH, KI1/2/3/4/8, KJ1/2/3, KK2/5 Download - xda-developers

2.3.6 XWKK2 http://www.multiupload.com/PBBE9HBXTS

There is a XWKK5 Frankenstien build on the XDA site also but I found it to run slower than the KK2 so I flashed back.

yeah rooting and flashing firmware is different. you need to flash a root file that correspond to the firmware you flashed. you can always flash back to original to get your warranty.
for kk5, it only wipe if you change the csc file. and it didn't wipe for me cause i only flash the kk5 file.

What do you get with this update ? Did you see any battery increse ? And Is it safe to do this on the Bell Canada network ?

Is this the right file ? Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

yeah that one under frankenstein. the KK5 is XXK13 not XXK14 which has better battery life . right now battery seems better and phone faster.

I put on KK2 which has XXKI4 and the phone seemed faster than KK5 but I am noticing a big change in battery life and it isn't for the good! You are saying you battery life changed to the better with KK5? What version did you have prior?
