I read in another forum that a guy has a class 10 card in the Rezound. Your mileage may vary. I don't know if the Rezound hardware can write as fast as the card will allow though.

I have a PNY 32GB Class 10 and have noticed a huge improvement over the class 4 that came with this phone. When transferring files via USB, the write speed seems to fluctuate between 8Mb /s and 10.5 Mb /s. The class 4 that came with this phone would register between 2Mb /s and 3.5 Mb /s.

I know that transferring via USB will be faster with a higher class, but I'm wondering about the phone's read/write speed. I'd like to upgrade my sdcard, but I don't want to waste money on a higher class if it's not going to improve performance.

Amazon has some good deals on 32 gb microSD cards class 6:
Komputerbay 32GB MicroSD SDHC Microsdhc Class 6 with Micro SD Adapter and USB Reader - $40

I tried searching to find the phone's data access speed to sdcards, but couldn't find any info.

Does anybody have personal experience with increasing the class on the sdcard and noticing improved performance? Does it improve performance for apps which are on the sdcard? What about other scenarios?

Other than what I posted above, I would say that reading and writing to my SD card **seems** faster than with the original SD card. I didn't test before I swapped, but there are SD card benchmarking apps like SD Tools and SD Tester. Here's a market link:

https://market.android.com/search?q=SD+Card+Tester&so=1

In performing benchmarks on my phone now, the phone appears to write between 9 and 10 MB /s and read between 18 and 19 MB /s. Like I said, I didn't run these benchmarks before I swapped cards, so I can't compare results.

This was the quote I was referring to.

I don't know how fast the phone can read/write to a card or even to the internal memory for that matter.

Got my 32 GB class 10 and I recommend everyone don't bother with upgrading to a 32 GB card unless they go with something higher than a class 4. I have some 720p video content and with the class 4, it would take a good second or 2 to jump from one scene to another. With the class 10, much faster and smoother. Spend the extra $5.00 to get a class 10, it's well worth it.

Just want to clear up some misconceptions: Speed class ratings specify minimum write speeds supported by a card, but don't say anything about read speeds. It's easily possible that a good quality Class 2 card would have faster reads than a marginal Class 6 card. It's also possible that the Rezound's microSD interface can't keep up with the very fastest (and most expensive) cards available. More info here.

I thought write speed is mostly what is affected by SD class, but that was the first thing I noticed on the phone, when I'm playing 720p content and scroll, the video responds a bit faster. With my old 4 class SD card, it took a good couple of seconds to get to the correct scene. I don't think the file structure changed any during the migration from one sd card to another, but who knows. For whatever reason accessing the files on the SD card is a bit faster, which mostly would be a product of the processor. Although an O/S does run faster and smoother if the HD spins at a faster RPM or if SSD (closer to the SD card in structure) card is a newer class of SSD cards. I still think the phone feels a little brisker with the new Class 10, but that's just me.

I don't question your experience, just pointing out that read performance depend on the particular brand and model of the SD card, not on its speed class (which only guarantees write performance). Your new Class 10 card may read a lot faster than your old Class 4 card, but some other high end Class 6 card might be even faster.

I'm saying you're probably right about the higher class designation. I'm just saying the first thing I noticed was how much faster the video would fast forward to a different scene. It was enough for me to notice a difference.

Wow, that card got some bad reviews. I bought one before reading the reviews (silly me) so we'll see.

I've had mine in for a week with no problems thus far. Make sure you format it first, and you may want to format it on the phone and then dump your old files from the other card. Although someone may want to chime in to see if it may be better to format the card on a computer instead. I'm sure the difference in formatting it on the phone versus on a computer is very minor, but I'm betting there's a propeller-head out there that will pull a "Sheldon".... :D
