Who else here is disappointed at the lack of 720p capture?

Well it seems as though the feature which was in the HTC leak from a while back has been scrapped, otherwise htc would be raving about it. That's a big blow for me cause i had my heart set on HD recording. I'll still get the phone cause everything else is perfect.

Anyone else disappointed too?

I can see that being nice, but it's not a deal-breaker for me. I use my iPhone for spur-of-the-moment video stuff, and it actually does that very good, but if I want to get HD video, I think I would rather use a dedicated camcorder. But the fact that it's got the physical capability for 720p (it sounds like, anyways), then no need to sweat it, there are probably just encoding details thet they are still working out. And the phone isn't out yet, so it's always possible that they will have the bugs all worked out and it will drop with 720p. Guess we'll find out in a couple months!

I find it hard to believe they can fix this camera with a software update and we will get genuine 720p capture.
It is the one thing I don't like about this phone, video capture is pretty awful.

I decided a while ago I would just buy a Flip UltraHD if I want to record some decent video anyway :)

The snapdragon processor supports HD recording and encoding.

They could add 720p video recording at any time but it's not necessarily going to make the video much if any better. It's the lens and mechanics of the camera that determines the quality.

actually i am REALLY unhappy about the video capture on the Desire. its fine in good light records at 29fps. but anything less than good light and its pathetic, no other word for it, drops to as low as 9fps.

and the sound? oh my god, beyond pathetic

don't get me wrong, the phone does everything else very well, but lets be honest about the video recording, its rubbish.

the video sample of the N8 was impressive, tripod or no tripod. Besides, the sound and video capture on the n95 is much better than the desire, so the N8 will be something else i'm sure
