Help Gorilla Glass or No?

So this might have been asked in other sections of the forum, but I am specifically looking for an answer for the Indulge. Does this phone have Gorilla Glass? My previous phone (Samsung Admire, great phone BTW!) had it, and even listed it on the packaging. I've looked around and it looks like most of the other Galaxy S series have it, but no definitive word on if the Indulge does.

I don't want to buy a screen protector if it's has GG since it would seem like a waste of money.

Want to site some references on that? Wikipedia (I know, LOUSY source, right?) said all Galaxy S class phones have it, and goes on to list that the MetroPCS/Cricket have a smaller screen with lower rez.

I don't know if samsung would be so cheap as to switch the screen types (especially if they have the infrastructure in place) on a lower model. Then again they DID take out back lighting the buttons.

Anyone else know for sure? Maybe some pictures of damaged screens would be good to see? Or someone can try it on a bricked phone and report back.

You SURE about that? I decided to run an experiment last night after one unsatisfactory search query after another and said to myself "Screw it, just try at the bottom where the samsung logo is! If it scratches, not a big deal. It doesn't block the screen." So I took an exacto knife to it, and no cuts! The was a brand new out-of-the-package blade. So yeah, I would say it's got Gorilla Glass. Also tried a little steel wool, no scratches.

So I think I've answered my own question.

(The manufacture date is 9/11, so maybe something got changed after the Admire was released?)

Its not.gorilla glass. Only because its scratch resistant doesnt automatically make it GG.
I have managed to drop mine in violent cases and my screen is fine. If it were GG, it would have shattered.

Samsung also uses a gorilla glass like screen that is similar to gorilla glass but is not called gorilla glass. Its what they are using on the galaxy nexus and perhaps on the indulge too.

Regardless I doubt the Indulge is Gorilla Glass. For one thing they would throw that in as a feature point. It may not be the biggest feature in the world but it doesn't hurt to put it on there.

Gorilla Glass is *unbreakable* compared to other screen technologies. Dont get me wrong it can break/shatter but it can take a beating. And only thing that can actually scratch Gorilla Glass is sand (both are glass) thats why screen protectors are the biggest waste of money if you have Gorilla Glass. I have Gorilla Glass on my Esteem and have never used a screen protector and I carry it in my pocket with car keys, change, all kinds of stuff and dont have one scratch on it.

Yeah, it's scratch resistant. But your right, not GG. I was able to see the scratches under super bright light. While extremely minor, which I an glad about. I was stuck in a *shudder* Sprint store with my wife. Anyhow, I was able to find a good deal on screen protectors on Amazon. 10 for $5. They look like the kind you get with those "official" MetroPCS cases. So thanks all for the input.

PS: While @ the Sprint store I compared speeds in my area. Sprint's WiMaxx was running at ~5000 kbps download and 1200 upload. My Indulge was pulling ~4500 down and 2000 up. Cheaper and faster for those Youtube uploads! Yeah!

PSS: Wife is going to buy an Indulge as well. Another convert away from Sprint! Yay!

some say it's a (somewhat) better phone and the 4g seems to not eat up its battery as much as the indulge ...

Gorilla Glass is as described, glass. Given it is reinforced scratched resistant glass, it will still manage to break/shatter.

Wonder which Galaxy Tab they are mentioning. My Galaxy Tab doesn't have GG.

Never used the Indulge but I LOVE my Esteem,never have had a problem with it and it damn fast. but 4g kills the battery fast. Dont know how fast compared to the Indulge but fast. Usually 6-8 hours life span. But I downloaded this app call 2x Battery that disables your data connection when your screen is off (you still receive texts and everything) and re-enables it when you wake the phone up and now getting 14+ hours of battery life.

I've been testing that app for about a month now and I have to say its the best one I've used so far. It really does extend the life of your battery and just like you said, you still receive all of your notifications, great post.

Yeah, but cash rules. She likes the smaller phones (her current phone is a Palm Pixi. FWIW I had a original Pre, so I am very comfortable with sliders. Before that I used an original messager for about a year.)

We have a little dealer across the street that hooked me up with my Indulge, $200 out the door. No tax (and I live in the SF Bay Area, where tax is something like 9%, so I saved $18 outright.) With that money she can buy an extended battery (so happy, mine came today in the mail. Fast! Ordered it Friday night, and it came from FL!) I ordered some screen protectors so they should be here next week, so she'll be fine with this one.

A buddy of mine is a reseller of these phones and showed me his cost for the Esteem. All I can say is "OUCH!" Like $10 cheaper than retail. That's it. If it was around $225 (I would have thought he would have been able to eat the rebate, but it looks like those all go through corporate), I am sure the wife would have chosen that one. She fell in love with the HTC EVO 4G Design (why the hell is the name so long!?) So I am sure eventually when Metro gets more HTC's in (I hope they don't just stick with the Wildfire S) she will go for one of those.

Aww man! Now you tell me after I ordered and installed the 3600 mAh battery (The yellow, white and red one!) I will try that application as well. Let's see if I can go 2 days w/o charging! Not to get side tracked, but do these batteries auto calibrate or is it best to fully charge with the phone OFF when I first get it, use it till it dies, and recharge it fully again with the phone OFF about 3 or 4 times to calibrate the battery manually?

Just curious!

Are you rooted? If you are going into data>system and delete batterystats.bin after you have charged the battery over night. Then unplug the phone and use it as normal and let the battery die completely till the phone turns off then charge it to 100% over night with the phone off then just use it and charge it like normal. Youre phone will remake that .bin and be more accurate to the bigger battery

Nah, not rooted. I kind of don't want to at the moment. I guess I'll just deal for now. I was considering flashing over to Basix, but after reading that some folks have bricked their phones (probably from flashing a metro image onto a cricket phone or something) I have decided to run stock for now. Question, if I do decide to flash to Basix, will using Odin and the EE07 image as well as the acs-indulge.pit included with Odin re-write the clockwork loader thing and return my phone back to bone stock, out of the package condition? Or is that all permanent?

Following the instructions in the Odin thread will return yur phone to original, straight out the factory settings. Everything extra will be gone. Including root, custom recoveries, extra apps, your google account association with the phone... everything
