How to prepare for 2.1 update?

Sorry for yet another 2.1 topic.

Alright. So updates are happening. What I want to know, as well as others I'm sure is what do I need to do to make the transition as easy as possible.

I have my apps backed up with Astrid, but how can I back-up my contacts? That's really the only question I have for now.

If someone wants to type out a whole big thing to turn this into a sticky (or make their own topic with a sticky in mind) go ahead and type out a big list of things to do. I'm sure everyone will appreciate it.
List of Things to Do:

Read "Tips and Tricks" Sticky (At the top of the forum people). - Back up your contacts!!

Back Up Apps with Astro, or another way - EXPECT SOME TO NOT WORK?!

Expect the worst! (Probably have to reset all your settings at the very least)

Gather fire wood/ammunition/fresh water/assorted servants.

I think that's a great idea. I hope it's addressed further than the warning and advice by Caddyman in the other thread.

We need a How to Prepare for 2.1 sticky.

it seems that when we make the to 2.1 that things are gonna change and there might not be a way to save some things. Make sure you back up as much as you can, and remember, this isn't just an OTA bug fix, this is going to be a full OS swap. Settings might be handled differently so there might not be a way to save some stuff.

It's occurred to me that this is probably the first official OTA released to UPGRADE a phone to Eclair. Droid and Nexus were released with Eclair, and I'm assuming the rooted users who have it had to wipe their phones and do a clean install.

Honestly, I'm expecting a fair amount to go wrong that wouldn't be detected by the clean installs that we know the testers are using. But still, I can't wait to jump into that mess!

Dang did you guys notice the live wallpapers in the vid? From seeing all the 2.1 Hero Roms that have leaked, I did not see that coming...
He said it was an animation associated with the weather clock, not a live wallpaper. He hasn't confirmed the presence or absence of live walls. I'm under the impression those are different things.

there is a sticky in the top of this section called tips and tricks

inside that thread is a tip about backing your phone up

follow that tip

and expect your apps, some of them at least, to not work.

the end.
As usual, you are always fun to read. I read your tips and tricks a while back and it seems so simple. Bottom line is Google sync and remove the SD card before doing the upgrade. Anything else that happens is no big deal. Cheers! (and thanks!)
