Recommend a phone?

I've been through 2 EVO 4g's and am possibly looking to get another used phone on ebay in January (I'm not eligible for an upgrade until Feb 2013) I just bought a Samsung Epic 4G on ebay to get out of the frustrating freeze and reboot with the 2nd Evo, and it's TINY! LOL I'm probably going to keep buying only used phones unless I'm ready for a 2 yr upgrade. It's just cheaper that way since I'm a serial phone hopper...

- I like big and heavy phones
- Option to remove bloatware would be awesome (I think the EVO 3D can do that? Not sure of any other phones) This is the only reason I root, so if the phone did it automatically it would save me the hours of frustration trying to root, load ROMS, etc
- Not too loyal to a particular brand but it has to be on Sprint's network
- I am in an awesome 4G coverage area, so having that feature would be a plus
- Ability to use a 32gb sd card
- Good camera is a must! I take tons of pics with my phone.

Don't really care if it has a keyboard or not. I do listen to a lot of music/podcasts but the 32gb sd card takes care of that. Lagginess tends to irritate me though. :D

So is there a perfect phone out there for me?

I don't know if the perfect phone exists! ;) Having said that, I am a very satisfied owner of the EVO 3D. There are some people who don't like the default settings on the camera app though. I take lots of pictures too and didn't mind changing the settings according to subject and environment, but thought I should mention it for full disclosure. There is a great camera hack that doesn't require root if you wanted to give it a try. I did because I constantly mod my phone and it does have better default settings and works very well.

I also enjoy the full phone to tv mirroring available with MHL. Since you live in an excellent 4G coverage area like I do you will like the ability to stream YouTube video or Netflix onto the big screen as well as games. You can also view 3D content on your 3D tv and if you don't have a 3D tv it will display the 3D content as 2D. I use that feature a lot and am surprised there isn't more discussion about it.

As for the phone itself, I have owned mine since pre-launch and still love it. The screen is big and the display is clear and beautiful. Very fast and responsive and the full page web browsing experience is great. If you can I would recommend you go try one instore.

Good luck! :)

You haven't had any issues with reboot loops? HTC has me a bit leery right now. Both EVO4Gs had the same issue. Thanks for the in depth review!

for you.. I think the epic touch (GS2) will be your match.

Is the Epic Touch is different than the newer Samsung Galaxy S2? Or are you talking about the Galaxy S2 with the awesome dual core processors... (I've been coveting this one)

Can you remove the bloatware with the Photon and epic touch?

I'm sure the EVOs read a kick me sign pasted on my forehead. :) All it takes to really piss me off is a couple mornings of that alarm not going off because the phone is in a reboot loop. Darn lazy dogs never wake me up either!

Two phones, both did the same whether rooted or unrooted, with updated factory software, w/o any market apps installed or with apps installed, :(

I can only explain it as those Evo's did not like me! I have a friend who loves her and she has has zero issues since it was released. I still have one and am keeping it as an emergency back up since I just cancelled the cell phone insurance. But I will never buy another EVO 4g

Epic Touch is sprints Galaxy S2 (GS2).... with a bigger screen!

I LOVE bigger screens! Maybe a samsung note is in my future :p ok so the Epic Touch is the winner so far! Now where is that Xmas bonus that is coming up?

Think I can sneak the new phone past the bf? "no honey, this isn't a new phone. Are you feeling well?"

I knew you guys would have the answer for me. :D Thanks so much!

to remove bloatware, you have to Root it. only the E3D can remove without rooting.

You actually can remove MOST bloatware on the Epic 4G Touch and Photon just like the EVO 3D, I've used both and I have the Epic 4G Touch and I can confirm that you can remove the same bloatware that you can on the E3D. (By the way, E4GT is definitely the best phone I have ever used IMO, also the fastest. I think it'll be a great phone for you if you get it)

No, I haven't had any reboot loops/issues at all. I pre-ordered mine before launch so I got one of the first ones. I guess like everything some people get the really good ones, and others get the really bad ones, and most get the somewhere-in-between ones. I got one of the really good ones! ;)

P.S. I guess I got one of the really good EVO 4G's as well. No bootloop issues with it, either, and now my husband uses it.

I believe the Motorola Photon would be a good phone for you. It has the same 4.3 in screen, (not too tiny) 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processors (super fast) dual cameras 8mp, 1GB of RAM & 16gb of internal memory (supports up to 32GB), & is 4G. You can easily compare the 2 phones. Also, this is a great phone if you're a gamer!

I would go with the GS2 touch. It has the large screen, great cam, and it comes with 16GB ROM and supports up to 32GB micro SD.

I did get the GS2 Touch, so far I'm in LOVE! and it's been about a week. :) Zero lagginess. I do hate how the bottom soft key things stop lighting up while the screen is still lit up. I can never remember which is the home spot and which is the back key.

You can adjust how long the lights stay illuminated for. Menu - settings - display - touch key light duration

from here you can select, 1.5s, 6s, always on, always off. In the event your battery reaches 10 percent or less, they will always be off.

Hope this helps.

That worked! Thanks so much. :) Not sure why I didn't think of that. I guess I just didn't have time to dig around in the settings. It's also irritating how the pictures are being saved to the phone vs the sd card (I fixed that hopefully) I just need to sit down for 30 mins and dig around in all my settings options. and in Astro there is an SD card and an external sd card listed. Makes zero sense to me! But maybe it's a samsung thing... Took me a good 25 minutes this morning to find my music files on the external sd card! LOL

My battery life on this is SO much better than the EVO. :)

It sounds like the best phone for you would be the Galaxy S2 b/c it has a bigger screen than the Evo (if you like size), a great 8.0 mp camera also dual cams for great pics, an awesome Mp3 player, & it supports up to a 32gb sd card. And you're right the Evo 3d is the only one i know of that can remove bloatware, but the Galaxy s2 is a great phone in my opinion. Have you seen this phone?
