Congrats..you upgraded to gingerbread through Kies..!! Yes, as yagya said, it is always better and safer to flash any ROM with Odin and firmware files than Kies. If you are flashing with Kies and for any reason update can't be completed, your mobile won't boot at all showing a black screen. I had this problem when I tried to update through Kies. Later, I came to know about Odin and going into download mode and flashing firmwares. Thanks god..this saved my time and sending it to service center.

We can say Odin as swiss army knife. After this experience, I tried many european ROMs and even Cyanogenmod. After getting this indian gingerbread release, I too flashed it and it works perfect now.

theres a lot of bugs in that version.. my battery life drained fast 9-13hrs.. wifi disconnecting and everytime i start watching a video on youtube, it restarts a short way into playing.

But while trying update firmware, its showed 3000MB storage required!!!!

Sorry brother I hadn't have such problem. Try emptying memory card. By the way,i had some problems to. At first try when Kies was downloading the update, it stuck at 62% and mobile screen showed "downloading" in black and yellow. Layer I restarted phone abd tried again. Then Kies shewed your phone needs emergency firmware update and I selected yes as I had no other options. And finally after the emergency update I found that my phone is 2.3.6. It's all luck by chance!

thanks. I upgraded my phone via KIES. Now its gingerbread. the problem so far i have found is, my speed dialing is no more working. I have assigned contacts for speed dial (like i did for froyo) and hit call....its always runs USSD codes......why?

Don't know about this error... I used GB 2.3.6 for some days but couldn't try contacts and calls. maybe you need to wipe data and cache (or do a factory reset) in recovery or in settings and see if it works.

There are no such defect of upgrading, you will get a new firmware which is better and stable than the current one. Also, your internal memory remains same so don't worry. Find more info at yagyagaire.blogspot.com or simply follow the link on my signature.

How is your gingerbread going? Recently I found a problem, my phone is not being identified by Kies after the update. Do you have such problem?

If you falsh a firmware other than the one for your device hten your Kies will not recognize it. YOu will have to get another version or Kies or just flash the one for your version/region.

Yes, official DDKQ7 rom supports Indic languages incl. hinid, tamil, nepali and others.
