How to delete Mail data

Hi All,

As I guess most of you un-rooted owners have found, memory on the desire is limited.

I constantly have to clear the data in apps like facebook.

One programme that keeps growing though is the Mail app. I have deleted all my mail and accounts from the phone and yet the data, 5mb, still remains and I cannot delete it. Any ideas?

Cheers

Hi Harry,

I've emptied the trash.
I've also been to settings/applications/manage applications/mail and tried to use the 'clear data' but it is greyed out.

I then deleted all my accounts and rebooted the phone but the data is still there and growing.

I now have my account set up again. In settings for the account I have 'download options' set at 3 days and 'mail size' set at 5kb (text only)

I'm on Android 2.3.3 if this helps.

Cheers

With my (un-rooted) Desire I was used to use 'QuickApp Manager' (search in Market for Cerisier Bleu).
Not for automatic clearing but for analysing the usage of the phone's storage space.

Maybe it can also helps you :)

EDIT: For a (great graphic) overview you could use 'DiskUsage', but it doesn't show the cache usage.

Amazing that this bug is not fixable without "rooting" you android.

Newsflash!! Not all android users are software developers that are willing to void warranty, spend hours trying to learn how to root, and risk losing data and end up effing up their phone to fix a problem that should be addressed by Google, HTC, Sprint, Etc....

I cant believe this bug exists. I have 50 MB being consumed by my crummy Android Mail app even after I deleted the account. Now the "Clear Data: button in the manage applications section of settings is greyed out and unless I want to spend hours rooting my device to fix (with the potential of having worse problems) I am SOL.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem without having to "root" my phone.

Quite honestly tossing this crap OS phone out of a speeding car window and getting an iPhone sounds like an easier cheaper solution.

Why don't you just do that!
Yes the desire has a limited memory - not google/androids fault - blame HTC!
There are multiple ways around it without root, but ultimately root is the best answer and it really isn't difficult!
It sounds like you bought the wrong phone TBH though, best stick to apple and let them dictate to you how to use your phone!

To answer your question though, you need to make sure all folders have had mail cleared from them, my clean email [std. google AOSP] app sits approx 1.8mb
