Desktop Dock : Choosing Nexus One - Nexus One Help
user guide at the bottom!

Ground shipping is free.

I am not clear on two things:

-The dock is bluetooth capable, and as you can read the music is streamed through bluetooth from the cradle to the stereo (not through the phone sitting on the cradle). Therefore, could we stream music to the dock/stereo through bluetooth without the phone actually being on the cradle?

-It states in the instructions that the cradle can only be connected to the power outlet and not to the computer (no usb/micro usb connection) - syncing with the computer will not work - Isn't that a major flow?
I envisioned this on my desk next to my computer so I could back up files, etc. and charge at the same time....

as to your first question...yes, music can be streamed to the dock and the dock can be hooked up to a stereo or powerd speaker system.

as to the second...i am guessing that the dock cannot transmit data because it is using the gold posts at the bottom of the phone not the micro usb. could be a flaw depending on what you are using the dock for. if i had one it would probably be next to my bed and if not there it would be with my stereo system the same way ipod docks are. i am sure at some point someone will have a dock that will connect to the data port. actually here is one. Innodock Jr. Desktop Cradle, Black. but this uses usb to charge and usb does not charge fast at all.

it comes down to what you need it for. if you want a dock that just charges the phone and works with your stereo buy the one from google. if you want one that transmits data buy the other one when it is available. i personally like the google one which i would use on my nightstand except for my major issue which i posted to another thread. here it is though:

a problem i see with this dock is that its probably a tight fit. i have a silicon case on my phone and i was not planning on taking the phone out of the case. but to use the dock you probably have to. i dont really want to have to take off the case every time i use the dock and then have to put it back on when i am done. as much as i wanted this dock, ill keep waiting till something better comes along.

can someone let me know if it will fit with the case when they get it. please.

edit- scratch that. i have my own answer by looking at the pdf owners manual. i would indeed have to take off the case because it uses the gold posts at the bottom, not the micro usb port. and the posts at the bottom are covered by the case. this sucks!

I was about to get the dock to use on my nightstand but I would be paying $45 for a charger that held my phone up. My stereo, etc is in my living room (along with a HTPC for music) and not my bedroom so all the cool bluetooth features aren't worth it for me.

I'm more looking forward to the car dock, I have having to follow the navigation with the phone in my lap!

I got the Google dock just to put downstairs, next to my stereo, so I can stream music for parties and stuff. It won't use it as an everyday charger b/c I don't want to have to take off the case all the time (Seidio Innocase II). Seidio is coming out with a cradle dock that will work with the case on so that will go by my nightstand for overnight charging and alarm clock functions.

I'd really like a bedside dock and it would be critical that it played music so the official one is quite handy, and just as importantly tidy looking!. What I could really do with though, is one that had just a simple composite video out... if that could happen I could cancel my sky subscription and just use my phone for the minimal TV watching I do in bed.

No news on that though is there? And I don't believe there is a standard for streaming video over bluetooth yet.

With regards to Bluetoothing to your stereo.. this is something I would love to be able to do but having another cradle downstairs is probably over the top. There are now a number of Bluetooth AD2P (think that's the acronym!!!) 'pucks' that have RCA jacks. Depending on the reviews of how well they work I will probably get ahold of one of those.

Has anyone come across a N1 dock that will simultaneously recharge a spare battery (I had something that did that for my G1)? I need that more than a stereo connection :)

Yes I found one on E-bay- Look for NEXUS ONE CRADLE or NEXUS ONE DOCK

It's from China, costs $ 14 plus $ 14 for shipping = 28.

Let us know if you get it / like it.

Are you thinking of the same Zagg Invisibleshield I'm thinking of?

ZAGG | invisibleSHIELD | Google Nexus One Cases, Screen Protectors, Covers, Shields, Skins, Invisible Shield

This isn't about a screen protector, its about a phone case.

Whatever, its still a phone case, a screen protector has nothing to do with fitting in the desktop dock.
No, it's not "still a phone case." It's a skin because it adds an invisible layer of material between the entire housing of the phone and its environment--like skin is to humans. A case is a harder, thicker material which a phone fits into or snaps into. Zagg and other like products is applied onto the phone itself, like a screen protector for the entire body. Please get the facts straight before giving your advice to the Android Forums members; and if you didn't know it is fine too, but don't dismiss the facts.

Case, Skin..what's the difference if it still blocks the desktop dock? I think YOU are missing the point.

I have a ZAGG invisibleSHIELD on mine and the dock *kinda* works. I need to tinker with it a bit more. If i firmly seat the phone in the dock it starts charging and switches to the dock screen (like a clock). But a lot of the time it seems the rebound off the skin will make it break the connection after a few seconds.

I'm trying to see if it is the bottom section of the skin (around the contacts), or the two sides. It's definitely a snug fit.

I like the dock since it's useful as an alarm clock, but lately until i figure it out i've just plugged it in to charge on the nightstand. It's nice to have a spare charger as well (maybe not $45 nice...).

hth!

Hey look, another member has proven why there's a difference:

Thanks for the replies on the question about the "skin" guys. Didn't mean to start a controversy about "skins" vs. "cases"; as there is INDEED a difference. Thanks for the first hand knowledge sl33py. I'm sure the "ZAGG" skin is similar to the "XO" one, and as I suspected, would hinder docking capabilities. It's not that the skin covers the contacts, but that the slight thickness of the skin is enough to raisethe leads away from the contacts.

I also thought that the phone might not even fit in the cradle. Oh, well; I guess no dock for me... :(

Glad i could help a bit. I'm not so sure it won't work... I will have to mess with mine a bit and report back. The problem is - I LIKE the dock! Just need to figure out a solution. Maybe remove the bottom sides part of the skin? Or open up the skin around the connectors, or the bottom skin if it's pushing it away from the contacts... Maybe one or a combination will work.
