Apps are determined to be compatible or not based on a complex list of criteria.
Boost's part in that is their list of allowed and not-allowed features. This appears to be pretty lax as tethering apps and widgets show up as compatible and can be used on Boost phones even though Boost does not specifically allow you to tether.
Most likely the developer of the app has set the AndroidManifest.xml up to require a minimum level of performance that is slightly higher than what the app is capable of running with for reliability reasons (or just laziness, setting it to whatever they tested it with)
The android market told me that QuickMark (code scanner) was incompatible with the prevail. I installed it manually and it reads QR codes just fine. The lens/camera isnt quite good enough for barcodes though. Now I'm looking for a mirror of Keek to see if that works.

That's listed as incompatible because the camera doesn't have auto-focus.
the fact that it cant read normal bar codes should have tipped you off on that
Though I have said it before, and I'll say it again, that there should be a button for "I know it is incompatible and I accept what functionality will not work, including the app not functioning at all. Install it anyways"

Over on the triumph forum they were able to tweak the build prop to make the market perceive the phone as the HTC thunderbolt (similar in specs, more apps available in market) is there a comparable phone which could be used to do this with the prevail?
