How much in the Rogers ROM am I going to hate? Will I need to root it and upgrade? When can I root it? I don't want to go to the hero rom if it will be slow. Is there a way to manually delete the rogers icons/programs? Also, after putting my ATT sim card into the magic (obviously unlocked), will i have to configure the settings or will it do it for me?

Not exactly sure how much you will hate since i have not had a chance to run the stock build yet... however there is already a rooted version here : http://www.getyourdroidon.com/root/rogers-signed.zip and as far as i can tell since the hardware is the same on American and Canadian the root process should be the same although i again have not tried it on a canadian phone yet....

Thanks. I read in a lot of places that you can't root the Magic yet (or maybe just the Rogers one). What do you mean "already a rooted version"? That looks like a rogers rom?

yes there is already a rooted modified version of the rogers rom and many others... if you want to root your magic go here: Magic Rooting - Android Wiki it'll give you step by step and all files needed....

But I don't understand. Why would I want another version of the magic rom?

it's to root the rom... giving you the su (superuser) which opens up alot of possibilities for the os not to mention the freedom to change to other builds whenever you feel like it... as an unrooted rom it is limited to just the rom and the limits set by google the rooted one is open to anything that can be developed

I have tried rooting the Rogers magic with the provided ROM files but the phone just freezes after " fastboot boot recovery-new.img" I have replaced the image file with the Rogers one provided at Cupcake Downloads but the phone freezes after the boot.

Has anyone actually tried and rooted the Rogers HTC Magic.

Thanks in advance

Thanks. Thats what I thought too. But people here were saying that it could be rooted so I thought I would try anyway. Thanks for your help. I hope they root it soon. I hate the fact that rogers blocked apps in the Market

Everything I read said that the phone freezes and it doesn't work because the right image isn't released. Is there a way to backup the device before rooting

I don't believe there is a way to completely back up the phone without rooting... If I were you I would wait until some more experienced people have a chance to test it for you...
