I'm going through the phone and want to assign custom ringtones to certain people and custom alarms to my alarm clock and such. One problem...I can't seem to find a place to add ringtones or alarms or whatever. Anybody got any insight, tips, etc.? Greatly appreciated.

To put them on the phone, simply put the mp3 files in the ringtones folder.

I noticed they show up in contacts, and ringtone setting in sound.
They did not show up in Gtalk under ringtone. For that one, I had to select open via handcent, and then choose "music" in handcent.

Either plug it into your computer and go to internal storage or use a file manager like astro and go to /mnt/sdcard and place your audio files in their respective folders. Ringtone for ringtones alarm for alarm ringtones, etc...

ahhhh ok. that sounds pretty easy then, i'll give it a go. thanks!
Did you get it to work? I am still not sure what I am doing....if I get Astro file manager is it going to give me access to files and folders on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus "straight off the shelf" ? Ie when I currently can't see any files and folders (or don't know how to get access to them). Grrr I am so clueless...

Ok so I just got Astro file manager, g-mailed the BB tone to myself, downloaded it, copied and pasted it into both ringtones + notifications folders (and it plays in both places); couldn't find it in the drop-down menu when I went to choose it as my notification or ringtone, so turned off the phone and then it appeared in those menus, so chose it as default. Then texted myself to see if it worked - still got the old Nexus notification sound! despite rechecking to see if I had selected it properly!! What gives?

Actually, it plays "Vega" - even though that is not the tone selected for either ringtones or notifications. I tried changing back from the BB tone to another Nexus tone and it still plays "Vega"...am I doing something wrong..has the phone got a lock on it somehow that won't let me change settings?

Where did you change the tone, settings menu, people app or another app?
