Help cupcake error ?

I'm getting exactly the same issue too. And I just seen another thread where someone else has it too. I think there's some dodgy update we just got. All my device says is "No service". When i try register to a network it says your sim card does not allow a connection to this service" or "error while searching for networks".

I have googled it, and some people have found that their device has been IMEI blacklisted causing this to happen. I have done an IMEI check however, and there is no blocks on the IMEI, so i'm hoping its just an update which has caused the fault.

For info, i'm using the G1 on a three (UK) sim. I don't remember an update occurring recently. Does the G1 ever update without letting you know it has done so? Oh yeah, I can also use the internet fine through my sim card too :(

Info:

Firmware: 1.5
Baseband: 62.50s.20.17u_2.22.19.26I
Kernel: 2.6.27-00393-g6607056
Build: CRB43

EDIT: I have been searching, and this post made me think about 'Airplane Mode' having something to do with it. Airplane Mode is the only new thing I have done recently. I accidently put airplane mode on earlier today, and had real problems turning it back off. It just hung, and i had to reboot the phone. I was also in a vey poor signal area at the time, and had issues with having no signal a lot.

Hmmmmm

I am still having the problem. Is there any way someone can help me out. When the G1 is first booted. If you go into settings-->Wireless Controls. Does the phone say airplane mode? Everytime I turn my phone on at the moment it says Airplane Mode for a bit and then turns the airplane mode off. However, I still cannot connect to the GSM network :(

Have you done a Factory Reset ?

I have done a factory reset, through the SD card menu, and done the one where you press ALT+L and ALT+W (i think thats the combination). Still no joy :(

Do I need to root the phone to manually re-install the cupcake update?

I dont know or understand what you mean by "through the SD card Menu"

A factory reset is done thru the phone's system settings ...

You can do a factory data reset through Settings-->SD Card and Phone Storage-->Factory data reset. I tried that, and it dodn't work.

I also tried the one where you reset the phone, and it brings up a menu, where I think i pressed ALT+L and then ALT+W. I can't remember the specifics, but I think that is what i did.

Where is this "Phones system settings" that you talk about? How do i do the factory reset then?

I miss understood you reference to the SDCard it is the one in the Phone setting ... that sould wipe you phone of apps and data and give you like an out of the box New Start...

Take you battery out for like two minutes .... and give that another try with "Factory Restore ....

I have just tried a factory reset, signed back in etc, and i'm still having issues. It will not connect to a network. When I search for a network I get one of two things occurring: Either I get

"Error while searching for networks."

Or occassionally it will search for a network, and then say "your sim card does not allow a connection to this network". Its very odd. I did an online check to see whether it was IMEI blocked, and that came back all clear, so i'm lost.

I have a friend coming round today who is on T-Mobile, so I can try her sim card in it, see if that works by chance. I have read of a few people with the same problem, and they found that only a T-Mobile sim will work. (and yes the phone is definately unlocked, I have been using it for a month now)

I'm so confused :( I'm thinking of reinstalling the phone firmware to see if this helps.

Possibly the phone is not properly registered with the carrier ... I know in the US with T-Mobile >>> that like for DATA, the SIM card must be properly registered with the Carrier's database in order for it to properly work ... Call you carrier and make sure that all is OK in that regard ...

I'm pretty sure all is ok in that department. It worked flawlessly for a month, and suddenly has just stopped.

My friend popped over, and I tried her T-Mobile sim card in it. The phone registered as having network coverage perfectly fine, and had no mention of "No Service". However, it would not call out or text. I am now stuck completely, and will take it to T-Mobile tomorrow to see what they say. Will they help me out if i'm using a different carrier's sim card in the phone does anyone think?

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I really appreciate it.

Just as an update, my phone appears to be working again. I'm not sure why. I doubt it was network issues, as my sim worked fine in my spare phone. Its very bizarre indeed. I still wonder whether it had something to do with the airplane mode, as that was acting suspect indeed.

I also think I am going to still take it to tmob shop tomorrow to get it all checked out. Thanks all for the advice given.

Hi there i had this problem a couple of times recently. I think it does have something to do with the airplane mode. But anyway. I found the way to fix it on my phone is to turn the data roaming setting to disable and to turn airplane mode off then on again. and then the same with the actual phone power (off then on). when the phone loads up again for me it sets it back to my home network and i have signal. Dont know if this helps but i hope it does! :)
