Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

So...while rebooting my phone for only the 2nd time since I've had it, I noticed something. I have no lock symbol underneath the Google logo in the boot animation. That means I'm unlocked right? What's funny about that is...I haven't even gotten close to attempting it yet.

you get the lock symbol once the device is unlocked...and it actually shows a lock that is unlocked!!!

First full day of obsessing over the phone and I got to say I like it. Super OCD noticed that the bottom of the screen is slightly brighter that the rest but not enough to risk taking back for another only to find a more glaring problem. Otherwise battery life is mediocre (expected) and signal strength is not as good as the OG even with my home wifi.

Was going to unlock and wait to root but I could not resist the urge. Had a tense moment when my phone was stuck at the Google screen and had to pull battery thinking I would have to go through the root process again but it booted up and I have root!

Was thinking that the 4.0.3 update will lose root anyway so I probably should have waited.

For those that rooted. I downloaded the su.zip and extracted to desktop. When I opened that folder there is "meta-inf" "system" and another zip file for "superuser-3.0.70-efgh-signed". Which one do put in my tools folder?

You push the zipped file to the GN, and install it from recovery.

The instructions at Droid life worked perfectly for me.

Good morning, Nexlings!

Thanks, BB &, jbdan, I will try gimp.

I charged the battery fully last night, used it for roughly 20 minutes, and it was down to 80%!

Put it to sleep in my sock drawer (one of our dogs turns into a chew-thief at night; seriously, she's taken my wallet out of my pants before), woke it up this morning, and it's at 60%!

I have no idea what's discharging it so much, but I will let it drain all the way before recharging.

Bought the extra battery last night, and it's fresh and ready to go, at least.

Anyone. I'm on the ClockworkMod Recovery screen. Can I just unplug phone and start my phone back up and find out what I'm doing wrong before I try again. Or. Do I have to pick one of the otions...reboot,install zip, wipe data, wipe cache, backup, mounts, advanced?

Zip file is NOT installed.

Can anyone help?

I think when I download the superuser I shouldn't unzip it. Just put the whole thing in my tools folder? The first time I unzipped it then but the file in the tools folder. I'll have to try again later. I wiped date/factory reset and then rebooted.

I miss all the old ringtones on my Droid! Especially the one I used!

All these stock ringtones are pretty limited and lame IMHO

Does anyone know of a place where I can go to get those (or at least MY) specific ringtone(s) so I can load it onto my Nexus?

EDIT: NVM, I DID IT!

I went into the system folder of my rooted Droid, copied my ringtone to the SD card, then copied the ringtone to the PC via USB. THEN I connected Nexus to the PC and dropped it in the "Ringtones" folder. DONE! :D

I emailed my old ringtones to myself, worked great! I did have to convert a wav file to an mp3 to get it to work correctly.

I copied over the "Drooooooooooooooooid!" notification tone for Gmail, my TOS Star Trek communicator notification tone for Google Voice and my British Trimphone ringtone.

While the external speaker on the Gnex is a bit....lacking... these are all reasonably audible. I don't think I'll ever find a phone with an external speaker as good as the OG Droid.

My wife's car does not have Bluetooth but she'd like to still listen to music from her phone while in the car. Any recommendations for a good kit that would let her do that? Any of these with a cigarette lighter charger built in as well?

I got my wife a Motorola MOTOROKR T505.

It's a BT speaker phone and FM radio transmitter and plugs into the cigarette lighter to charge.

I guess I have the charmed Nexus: I have no problem with its speaker volume. Granted, I use my BT headset like 99.9% of the time... but the speaker works just fine when I need it, with plenty of oomph. But you're right: NOTHING will ever beat Droid in many respects.

Great post! I was wondering how to do that myself.

I did see I could buy it from Verizon but hey, I like free. ;)

I'd like to know this as well. I hate having to burn a million cd's just to listen to my music in the car!

So about the sound volume.............not a big fan.

I am pretty sure I will miss both incoming calls and texts in noisey environments.

Did I miss anything about a fix for this?

My son and I compared phones for sound (RAZR) and his totally blew my ears off with it turned up to full volume.

I will give it a week or so to see how I feel. I really want to love it but this is a kinda big deal to me.
