The OTA has started rolling out. You can wait for it to reach your device on its natural course, or you can update manually via the recovery console.

News (4/2/2012): Great news for AT&T Nexus S users! A 4.0.4 update is now available for the I9020A. The update is intended for those on 2.3.6. It is unclear whether or not it will work for older versions.

News (3/28/2012): An official 4.0.4 update is now available. For now, the only manual update available is the 4.0.3 to 4.0.4. This works for both the I9020T and I9023. We're still waiting on the I9020A. Here is that update file if you want to do it manually:

News (1/31/2012): An Android version 4.0.4 build has recently leaked for the Nexus S 4G. This build won't work for those of us on the GSM version, but the fact that it carries a newer version number clearly suggests that Google is continuing to work out the various bugs we've seen in 4.0.3. There's a good chance we may all be seeing a 4.0.4 OTA in the near future.

News (12/20/2011): Due to a battery life bug experienced by some users, Google has suspended the Nexus S ICS update. This means the OTA won't be rolling out to anyone else until they solve the problem. You can still update manually if you choose, using the files below, but be aware that the battery issue could affect you.

I personally am not experiencing significantly poor battery life. After 19 hours on battery with moderate use, I still had 34% left; however, my Awake time is twice my Screen On time, as described as the bug.

Work around for I9020A Models (No longer necessary with official I9020A 4.0.4 update)
A work around has been discovered that allows you to update your I9020A with the I9020T file linked above. It is definitely not for the faint of heart, and it is not confirmed as entirely stable. Follow these instructions at your own risk.

First, your phone must be rooted with Clockwork mod recovery image.
Factory reset and flash a stock 2.3.6 ROM for a I9020T (link to 2.3.6 ROM: http://android.clients.google.com/p...a25375426.signed-soju-ota-189904.1ada2537.zip).
Reboot (your radio won't be working).
Using Fastboot, re-inject Clockwork mod.
Flash the I9020T ICS update above.
Flash the UCKE1 I9020A radio (link to radio: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=687157&stc=1&d=1313224429).
Reboot, and done.


ICS Features
A lot of people had questions regarding the features shown at the Galaxy Nexus launch and whether or not they'd make it to the Nexus S. Well, here's a list of included (and left out) features so far. I'm sure I've missed plenty, so feel free to request any others you might be curious about.

Yes. But I'd say it's just a temporary problem for now since the unofficial ROMS had no issue using Face Unlock.

EDIT: So apparently I have the i9023, which I guess means I can update. But a few questions:

1. If I manual update, will it effect future OTA updates? (make them not work etc.)
2. I'm with Vodafone Australia, does that make a difference?
3. Is there a brick risk?

For your first, I can tell you that I did a manual update in the past have then received OTA updates without a problem.

1. No, it should not affect your ability to receive OTA updates in the future. This is a stock (official) update, it will continue to receive OTA updates.
2. Carrier should not make a difference.
3. If you're coming from stock 2.3.6 and you aren't rooted, there is very little risk in bricking. I can't say there's zero risk, because there's always that slight chance a meteor may fall from the sky and knock the phone out of your hand while you're updating (akin to getting a corrupt download that still passes the checksum).

I'm still stock and unrooted on 2.3.6. Would the *CHECKIN* dial thing work to speed things up?

Give the new voice recognition typing a try. It's ridiculously better than it was on Gingerbread.

I'm having issues changing my keyboard - but maybe I'm being dumb. I go to input & languages and the android KB is selected as well as Swype - but I cannot unselect the android one and it is the only one that shows up when I go to use the keyboard. Any ideas?

Downloaded the ZIP and flashed a couple of hours ago. Beyond the normal nervousness that flashing causes it went perfectly. Will take some time to get used to a few new ways of doing things that had become ingrained habits (like figuring out how to look at notifications -- not kidding it took me an hour to catch on).

I9020A phones can't use this update without being rooted and grabbing a radio fix after the upgrade.

Like Crimson said, only the I9020T and I9023 version has been released. Those two models both share the same AWS UMTS radio. The I9020A has an 850/1900 UMTS radio.

Theoretically, the I9020T/I9023 update file would work on a I9020A save for the radio if you force it to install. In the original post, there's a method to force the I9020T update to install on the I9020A and then flash a working radio. It's a good way to brick your phone though, if you do something wrong, and there's no promises on how stable it is.

Probably done something really stupid here but did the upgrade today to ICS 4.0.3.
When originally got the phone, had my number ported from previous provider. Now, having done the upgrade I have the original phone number back.

I also noticed the bluetooth tethering option which was grayed out and not accessible before can now be turned on. However I have not been able to test it yet.

A couple of questions on notifications:

1) what/where is that new notification bar? what's so good about it?

2) in 2.3 I could bring up list of notifications from the menu button in the home screen, but this choice is no longer showing at that same spot. where do I find it?

in 2.3, the colour scheme on the phone (clock, 3g signal bar, phone keypad, etc) were green which I really liked.

however in 4.0.3, everything is now blue! is there a way to change it back to green? I can find no "scheme" kind of thing in settings.
