Okay guys, I'm at Verizon again, waiting for my guy to get freed up.

I just compared the white on apple.com to the HTC device's, and I've got to say that there is a HUGE difference.

Objectively speaking, the display quality on the HTC is a million times better than our baby.

So disappointing!

Is it the pentile?

Are you comparing both on Auto or both on max or similar brightness setting? The AMOLED should be a lot more battery savvy on max or high brightness settings than LCD.

If you're just comparing whites, then it's the nature of the tech diff. LCD will have brighter whites than AMOLED. But that doesn't mean the display quality is "a million times better."

Where AMOLED shines is black levels, which gives it the higher contrast ratio for that pop and 3D effect (when not looking at solid white pages). And it will have more vibrant (ie. oversaturated) colors; whether you like the more vibrant colors is a personal preference.

Yep. And comparing the Nexus to the Charge which has a screen like the S2's it seems the Nexus is a bit less over saturated and more accurate as far as colors go.

Some have reported that this file is not on their device after rooting. I see no pattern other than most have flashed another ROM. It also depends on root method used.

Using Root Explorer, navigate to system file. If it is there, mount r/w you can either delete the file or add the .bak extention to the end of it to keep it from running. Permaroot.

That is for the GSM model though which is slightly slimmer than the LTE model. Will it still work for us? Nice price if it will.

Okay, I found it and renamed it. So that's it, I'm perma-rooted?

Flash recovery one more time in Rom Manager. You were already permanently rooted. Now CWM will permanently be your recovery program, versus the stock recovery. So now you can do full nandroid backups, along with a few other extras.

Edit: If you don't rename (or remove) this file, you simply have to flash it again in either Rom Manager or using fastboot command from boot loader each time you want CWM recovery instead of stock recovery.

I am kind of confused by all this...I did nothing except the first part of the instructions, which is apparently for temporary recovery...I then saw I can have permanent recovery so I got root explorer to find that file to delete, and it doesn't exist!? Umwut...So I am not sure what to do to get permanent recovery now.

FYI...for those who have rooted and renamed the recovery file to use cwm as the permanent recovery method, i read earlier that it breaks your OTA updates but a way around this would be that when you hear an OTA is available, change the name of the recovery file back to normal, reboot and you sould get the OTA that way. after the OTA, change the filename again then reflash cwm again to make it permanent again

The battery gauge is atrocious on this OS. I turned the phone off and charged it for a while, the indicator that shows charge while off said a little over 25%, turned the phone back on and the gauge said 77%.

For those having terrible battery life please try this.

Charge your phone with it off completely and then turn it back on, I suspect the OS has a terrible problem with reporting inaccurate status. I know it can be hard to find time to do this, but I think you will find a DRASTIC improvement if you do. My phone is registering ~30-50% more than the battery is actually at I'm pretty sure.

For those having terrible battery life please try this.

Charge your phone with it off completely and then turn it back on, I suspect the OS has a terrible problem with reporting inaccurate status. I know it can be hard to find time to do this, but I think you will find a DRASTIC improvement if you do. My phone is registering ~30-50% more than the battery is actually at I'm pretty sure.

if you have CWM installed you could let it charge for a full cycle (so lets say off over night) use CWM to knock out the batt stats in Advance ->wipe batt stats, and run the phone till it dies. A few bad stats could make it wonky (also why it's not a bad idea to let it full drain a few times early on)

You should be fine. The file is a script to ensure that stock recovery is set. If it's not there, you should have permaroot and access to CWR

Just so everyone knows... The people at Diztronic claim that the volume button thing is a freak thing. I don't totally know about that since it seems like more people here are having problems than not. But they offered to send replacements to anyone having a problem with the volume button. I emailed them and they responded in like 5 minutes.

As a question... is anyone having the problem with the regular battery back, or is it only the extended battery?

I actually didn't even try it with the regular back before cutting up my case. Also, I heard people saying that the regular back fits with the extended battery, but with mine there was definitely NO CHANCE that was happening. Was that just a rumor or did someone actually fit the regular back over the extended battery?

I did. It strains it some but it definitely can be done
