Hi all. I tried taking nearly identical pics with my Nexus and Rezound today as I am trying to see just how similar or different the cameras are as I decide between phones. In each shot, I made sure to manually focus before snapping the shot.

Please take a moment to see what you think. Galaxy Nexus users, if you would, let me know if the quality of my pics are on par with what you are seeing with your camera. I would appreciate that.

In each pair of photos, the Nexus pic will be on top, and the Rezound pic below it. Enjoy and thanks for any feedback.

I'd work on focus and cleaning the screen IMHO.

None of my SGN pics look as bad as what you have posted, not even close.

Thanks for the suggestions. I actually did clean the sensor area and tried several attempts at focus. I am wondering if I by chance have a faulty camera. I say this because what you see is consistent each time I take a pic with it. No such problems on the Rezound....typically anyways.

Took some pics today with the Nexus at a family holiday gathering. Seriously could not get one decent picture. Indoors, plenty of natural light, kept hand as steady as possible. Manually focusing, pictures still did not look sharp. Kept having to resort to the digicam to take pics. Frustrating. I really want to like this phone, but its showing it share of issues. Im not looking for output like my DSLR. Just acceptable digital pics.

Maybe you're just not a good photographer.

I am a photographer and the Nexus photos are soft, we can only hope that it's a focus issue with the photographer and not a sensor problem. The Rezound photos are in focus but are a bit over saturated which is not great either, but then again I never use my phone to take photos that I really care about; I always have my D3 or at least my Lumix P&S with me.

you want to see bad, take a pic with my bionic
Omg.. Bionic does take horrendous pictures. My sister had it for 2 days and had to switch to Droid Charge because of its screen and camera.

On topic, the pictures actually look great except the one with wine. Pictures taken with Rezound may give you better impression with its saturated color, but overall detail is more visible with Nexus.

i took pics and vids today with my GN and none looked as bad as the OP's. they looked great.

This is what has me curious and why I appreciate the feedback. While I only posted one pic per particular situation, in many instances such as the pic with the wine bottle, I had actually taken several oics with the nexus and chose the best of the bunch. I tapped to focus each time, held steady, had the area of the camera clean from smudges, etc.

I am not sure if the camera overall is just that bad, or if I have a bad camera in my phone. Each person's vision and perception is unique as well. For me, I think the pics taken by the Rezound, though darker, and much more sharp, detailed, focused, and present accurate colors. Particular example is the outdoor sky with the red car. If you look at the Nexus photo....I can assure you that the car is not that red and the sky was not that blue. The Rezound was dead-on.

Had to copy my own comment to clarify. Ha. Looking at the pics on my computer...the sky is accurate in the pic taken with the Nexus. Looking at it on the phone...that is where it looks almost 'cartoonish'. I would chalk that up to the Super Amoled screen. Which brings up an interesting point. I have found that pics I take with the Nexus look more natural once on the computer, than they do in the phone's gallery.

I'm noticing the same thing. Had a Rezound and exchanged it for the Nexus. The camera is one area that I am feeling a bit of regret. At our family Christmas gathering today, I couldn't get the first clean focused shot, even manually focusing the camera.

I noticed one thing though. Once you snap a photo and hit the thumbnail to view the shot you just took, it gives the preview with the camera still active in the back. Tap the preview and it takes you to the gallery. The preview seems to be a far better shot than the one in the actual gallery.

However, I do think this is an issue with the lighting. Took a few photos outside and these seemed fine.

just face it, the nexus does not have a good camera

I totally agree. Are people in denial? The very first pics I saw from a Nexus were great. I think it was some unveiling in Hong Kong.

Ever since then, every pic has been terrible.

The above pics show just how bad the Nexus camera is.

My question is, were you focusing before snapping the pics? i.e. tapping on teh screen and getting a green square?

With each picture you see from the Rezound, it was pre-focused by tapping and the only picture taken of that particular scene. With each picture you see from the Nexus, it was also pre-focused by tapping and was the best of 5 or 6 taken of each particular scene. What you see is the best I was able to produce. Sucks because I was really hoping the pics I would see in reviews were do to the person taking them just fast clicking the pics because they were in awe of the zero shutter lag.
